Atarashi Gakko is Japanese. I am a 55 year old metalhead and have loved this band for 2 years. They are their own thing. The music goes from jazz, pop, hip hop to hard rock and in between. They also do their own choreography which is always interesting. The band is also funny, quirky and has deep meanings to many songs. Tokyo Calling uses the Kalju (Godzilla) imagery in this song because they are attacking Tokyo and the lifeless lives many lead with little or no enjoyment. Them with the helmets is the authority freaking out and “calling” for help. Them in their school uniforms is leading or “marching” for change in the lives of the citizens. Like I said way more then meets the eye here. Otona Blue, One Take performance is a must and their real breakout and massive hit. My personal favorite is Koi Geba which has a more Jazz and Rock influence. Koi Geba is also a deep song about the problems of teacher/student affairs. Look into this band deeper and turn on the subtitles.

My first impression of them is a kpop girl group doing a metal song. I mean it neither but kind of have both of those vibe. But at the same time theres also that very japanese vibe to it, the sort of slow chanting part sounds like it's from some old japanese folk song, and also sounds like a chanting for funeral ceremony. Its creepy and depressing but at the end its upbeat and almost inspiring with that upbeat. Feels like they're going to really blow up like some kpop group, if they havent already.

They do their own choreography and work with a number of Japanese and international producers. They draw a lot from classic rock and punk, as well as Jazz, Hip Hop, and pop. They are really a fantastic act. Top tier performers, and their entire deal is they do what they want and don't try to fit in. That's probably why the algorithm recommended them to you guys. Cause a lot like metal heads, these girls despite their signature school girl look, are all about not conforming. For sure you should check out some of their other stuff.

The funniest thing about these girls being portrayed as giant Kaiju is that in real life they are all very petite. Suzuka is 5'5", Kanon and Rin are 5'1", and Mizyu is 4'10"

I find myself in the same situation as most of the commenters here. I'm a 45 year old punk, who was raised on punk & NYHC. I'd probably never listen to anything like this in a million years, but, I'm SO glad I did! I've found myself quickly becoming an AG fan.

A ”School Leader” band obviously will feature school uniforms :) most of their videos feature school uniforms for that reason, I think the arm bands is supposed to indicate that they are the leader. So basically you got four school leaders forming a band together, that’s the visual concept behind the band.
