Just got mine, initial impression, superb! I’m going to love carrying now. No weighted down belts causing my belt buckle to dig into me because I have to cinch it down just to carry my firearm.
pssst. 1 good reason you want it close to arm pit is when you reholster, just squeeze with your arm and reholster. It's not a 2-hand job unless you chose to make it so.
I was on the job in Chicago from May of 1988 till May of 2018, for 19 years I use a Shoulder Holster for my S&W 586 -4'' . Today Police can't carry a Shoulder Holster , about 10 years ago, the F.B.I. reported that in a fight , most people were right handed and while fighting it was easy to grab the officer's gun, because it's under your left arm, and a officer has to reach across his biggest target, ie chest, to get to his gun. When the feds band it for their use, most police departments followed. I like a Shoulder Holster , for long car trips. All said if you can move your Holster so it's pointing down ( as my holster's did ) no-one will see your gun. Great Video.
When I was in the Marines Corps, I loved my shoulder holster. I think liked it because it was for open carry. Several years ago, I bought a shoulder holster for my Springfield XD 45. I hated it because I had to wear it concealed.
Obviously an old comment, but I'm curious, as I have an XD .45. Is it comfortable? I'm a pretty active individual with lots of complex motions throughout the day, such as shoveling and heavy lifting, does it ever get in the way? And lastly, is it practical or should I just stick with IWB? My only gripe with IWB is that whenever I bend over my shirt or jacket comes up, revealing my sidearm which is a big no-no for me, and I'm looking into a shoulder holster for that reason, seems more concealable in that respect. you don't need to wear a jacket or sport coat to conceal a shoulder holster! You can just wear a regular shirt unbuttoned with a undershirt, its a very cool look. 5.11 tactical has concealed carry shirts you can wear over it also

If you tighten the back straps, loosen the front straps, and move the belt clips to your sides it will conceal better. You have the gun way to far forward that's why the grip sticks out so far.
Thanks Chad. I like your honesty. I just ordered an AG Cloak shoulder for my Glock 48 and a shell for my Sig P238 and my Sw1911PC. The bigger shoulder straps should displace the weight of the bigger pistols.

If you want to fix the grip bulge tighten up the back strap and loosen the from strap so it pushes the front of the gun more to the back of the Armpit
If you like shoulder holsters and want to use them for conceal carry they are very good for colder environments since you would always need a coat of some sort to cover it up. The only downside is if you are getting hot and dont want people to see you’re gun, you got to keep that coat on. Not ideal for hot weather. They are also easy to draw from while sitting down and you can cross your arms with one hand on you’re gun and not have anyone think anything of it and draw that sucker at astronomical speeds since you already got a grip on the gun. Good for a situation if you think you might have to use you’re gun but you’re not sure.

Yeah, I think so too. I sometimes stuff mine next to my seat while driving because waist carry is not an option if you need your gun. I thought about a separate car holster, but I don't like announcing to the general public that I carry. The gossipers in my life do enough of that word of mouth, lol

This would be perfect for people who ride motorcycles and wear the full leather setup (as they should - all the gear all the time)! I’ve found when I’m full leathered that getting to a waistband holster is difficult - even more so if I’m wearing full rain gear.

I got a shoulder holster when I bought my Glock 19, it was a De Santos. It was alright, but not the thing I was hoping for. The belt clips were terrible.
But I still wanted a shoulder holster for carrying. Seeing this, Ill be giving it a shot.

As a "larger gentleman" I find it it handy as IWB just doesn't work for me. With my body type with the cant of the holster upward at a 45 degree angle or so, it's fairly easy to conceal under a shirt for me. I have giant arms though (they have to use a leg cuff to take my blood pressure) and a gut. I call it "Miami Vice Carry" as I wear a horrible Hawaiian shirt over it, but I'm old and don't care what people think.
For a skinny guy you're better off IWB IMO.
You can wear a button down short or long sleeved shirt over it, unbuttoned of course, during spring or even summer to keep the firearm concealed. If you don't want the grip of the gun to protrude out front much, move the belt hook towards the back of your pants, at around 8 or 7 o'clock position. That will reposition the firearm more inward.

I've looked at lots of these types of rigs. Most are really expensive (a few hundred) and not very comfy for months because they're heavy weight full grain leather, or an inferior material that won't last. This alien gear system looks legit. I'm considering it, but I'm so comfy carrying IWB and OWB. This would definitely make a great winter rig, especially for road trips in the winter, or just walking the dog in the winter. My upper body is huge, so this wouldn't really print on me much just wearing an overshirt either. And it does look sexy open carry, lol! Which is now legal across the whole great nation!

Yeah, definitely not legal in all 50 states. Circuit court rulings only apply to states within that circuit. The case was also appealed and is still pending review of I'm not mistaken.
If possible do a review after like a few weeks of use to see how you still feel about it.....

Hey chad a tip for wearing the shoulder holster, change the can’t of the pistol and holster so that the barrel tilts up towards arm pit and the back of the pistol grip should be angled so that if you reach for the pistol from under the bottom of your jacket or hoodie u can draw. So think of it this way, if your current set up is 90 degrees it would be around 45 degrees downward. It makes the pistol more concealable and a concealable draw from a seated or forward leaning position, from under cover garment vs straight line across the body. This is usually done by adjusting the straps and should almost be lined up with angle of ribs about equal in height to you elbow.
One last tip chad, most people ditch the suspenders. Their only really necessary if you end up in a foot chase. Taking them off allows the holster to swing more naturally with movements so bulges are less obvious in moving. And to really fine tune the holster just stand in a natural position and reach across your body elbows resting naturally against you. Place your hand flat against your ribs and then make a relaxed fist. This will show you where your natural grip leads and angle so when you reach for the weapon u don’t over extend or come up short.

I have one of these for an fnx45 I know big gun. I've found that horizontal conceals better than the barrel downward as the grip doesn't print as much. I'll try tilting the barrel upwards and see
@@ericharrower207by design, it’s impossible not to flag someone behind you in a shoulder rig. Chest instead of face? Maybe finger discipline is the answer, regardless.
Statistically, you’re more likely to hit the chest in an ND.
The comments on raising the barrel are correct for concealment.
Somewhat odd comment regarding the impossible to eliminate downside of this carry style.

I bought one, they are well made. They aren't for conceal carry. The handle on your gun is going to stick way out. Looks awkward with a jacket on. If you buy it to open carry its 100% awesome. Kinda strange reholstering also. I'm a long time customer of alien gear they make great stuff. I carry a inside waist holster 3.0 for over 2yrs love it
Question sir. would this type of holster work with a plate a plate carrier. hoping it will fit just above cummerbund? I have a AR500 tetsudo2 and currently have chest holster came with it. but I would like to use admin pouch for chest. my thought was this would move my back up pistol under the arm just above radio on left cummerbund. thank you for any input. greatly appreciated.

I like shoulder holsters for suit jackets but yeah cant have a slim cut suit, and also for a "middle if the night rig" (jump out if bed may not have pants on , but at least you have your gun and mags). I've found I like vertical carry better though. Great vid!
I use a shoulder rig for my EAA Windicator, it's a snubby 357 revolver. I use it for travelling in my car as it would be easier to pull than my usual carry which is a compact 9mm, IWB, over the right butt cheek. Since it pretty much requires a jacket or heavy coat to conceal without printing I use it more during winter or if travelling to a friend's house without stops in public.
Talked to alien gear today and if you get the whole setup it does comes with a full shell and the mag holsters so it's defiantly the better deal.
Love my GALCO JACKASS rig so much for my Glock that I got another GALCO JACKASS rig for my 1911’s. The GALCO JACKASS rig is so very comfortable and versatile and concealable. It’s little wonder it’s such a popular shoulder holster. I have no trouble packing FULL SIZED 1911’s with extended mags or Glock 19 with 21 round pmag in it.. GALCO JACKASS rig is the best.

On your weapon side, try loosening the front strap and tightening the back strap, which will pull the gun grip further back. Its way too far forward, but then you are thin and I have an old man Dad Bod 😉.
, so maybe my body covers it better. Wear the vertical straps on your side, not pulled upfront. I love my shoulder Holsters. Comfortable when sitting, but you notice the weight more with a G19. I wear a G43 in a Galco shoulder harness with a single mag pouch and it is so comfortable i forget im wearing it. I do love the Aliengear designs. I use the 3.0 and now the 4.0 and its a huge improvement. I didnt think I would like the modular systems, but after actually using them, I really prefer them now.

The retention on the shell helps the re-holstering of the weapon. If you have it tight, it'll take a minute to put it back. But it's for preference.
I would consider this setup but only if I could carry vertically rather than horizontally. Vertical carry eliminates the whole problem of the buttstock sticking forward.
Vertical carry is in line with your body and there is no more real difficulty in drawing from a vertical position than a horizontal all it takes is practice.
By far the best shoulder holster out there.
It does come with the mag carriers (I checked the FAQ) ;)
I just ordered a Galco VHS for my Beretta 92fs. I just prefer that classic rig over this.

I tried one with a Glock 43 and found both the holster and mag carriers to wide. Adjusted to ride either high or low they held my arms out too far from my sides. Wearing even a loose blazer you could see the bulk and it made me look like a penguin.
My plan is to wear a cover shirt over a t-shirt. This will be my primary way of carrying however I was still have something where I can carry inside or outside of the waistband when the situation calls for it. But even in the summertime wearing a light shirt that covers up the shoulder holster and buttons the first two or three buttons should suffice but fortunately I live in Texas so
Let's be honest...how many times are you reholstering if you need to draw and shoot?
That's why I almost always carry a bag. That way, in case after I have to defend myself from someone the gun is no longer on my person
every time you draw it, you will be reholstering it. Unless you're dead.

Other problem I had with this holster is the belt clips DO NOT work well with a lot of EDC carry belts.
counseled carry is what is comfortable to the person . i am new to CC and am leaning to the AG holster like that but not all year long so different carry options for different situations /
They show the holster outside of clothes on ads so you can see the holster. In most cases, the wearer has a suit jacket or vest that is intended to wear over the holster concealing it under the jacket. ETA- they are also intended to be worn with shirts that are tucked in such as dress shirts. They definitely lend themselves to anyone that wears suits. Suit jackets conceal them quite well.

To me, it would be a temptation to carry a hand cannon with a shoulder holster. I love .44 magnums/specials and .45's. But if your gonna carry a sidearm concealed with a shoulder holster, and not wear a Jacket or a baggy hoody, I'd keep the weapon physical size down to a manageable size, especially if your worried about printing. Such as a S&W M&P 9 Shield, or a shorter barreled 1911. I live in Florida, and would wear a larger/longer cool shirt, and if I could find it/them, with snaps for easy open. Just my thoughts.

I carry in a shoulder rig. They are for concealed or open carry. But mostly they are for people who sit a lot. Yes marketing makes them seem good for fast activity, but I'd argue a drop leg is best for that.
I'd say work on the adjustments. Cant the holster to at least a 45 degree angle and tighten it up.
Written at 5:30 or so. I'm pretty sure you have those belt straps.. really far forward. Ideall you'd have it closer to the 4'oclock I think, so it tends to pull the rig and hold it further back and also looks like suspenders.
Also I tend to prefer verticle over horizontal holsters. Hides it better, also just feels better to me?

Vertical Break with a clean sweep opening, horizontal duel mags....for me...less print front & back, weight of pistol doesn't swing as much, horizontal mags without a snap cover they are held by pressure retention, elastic on both sides of rig holding it to the belt (I like j-hooks holding it for ease of removal and putting it on). Next adjust so the grip is where you want it....(dont worry about high, low, in your arm pit)concentrate on grip placement that's comfotable, than your mag height next (not to high, but not at your belly button either).
Don't wrench your tie straps overly tight...they are there only to keep the weapon from sliding shoulder to shoulder that's it (you gotta bend twist and turn it should not be binding so touch your toes.
My Secret.....I use duel mag holders inside the belt, cant forward, on weak hand attachment side. I'm not crossing and digging if the jacket folds over on my harness rig. Put a flashlight/cuffs where your harness mag holder is instead, or my preference Knife & Flashlight (they can be bought or speciality made) it also helps balance weight. If not put weights in the mag holster.

I was up in the air w/ this and the Galco. I opted for the Galco because of the buckles...i feel as if they'd get annoying after a while.
Seems really bulky for a shoulder rig. I like the Galco classic lite cor concealment as it's just the leather straps and not huge backpack straps.
Agreed, I use A Galco Miami Classic. The Alien Gear rig is really bulky and the mag carriers need optional straps/snaps. I like carrying 1 spare mag and a Leatherman Wave multitool in my mag carriers, not possible without strap/snaps on the mag carriers.
Justin M I’ve had this same, rig, and also rigs similar to alien gears, the alien gear type was much more comfortable
More surface area for comfort. Can't have it both ways so make your choice.

Galco calls their classic shoulder holster the "Miami". You should be wearing it under a tropical print shirt. Along with white shoes and a pair of sunglasses.
I have tried the shoulder holster for my glock 43 for church and I covered it with a sports jacket. It made my hand look very awkward.

You should’ve tried tilting the glock down some. I think you should be able to adjust the camber.
If you could cant the gun at a diagonal angle it would make it MUCH more concealable. Having the holster be adjustable for cant is essential for concealment.
You can cant the gun up or down by adjusting the connection points on the holster backing.
I think there should add additional strap that goes from the gun to the ammo to keep it from giggling/dangling
Another comment about drawing with a shoulder holster, especially sitting vs standing. Lift your left arm ( bent arm) to draw when grabbing your gun. If you have a negligent discharge it wont be into your arm with major bleed out.
Sorry for the super late comment. I've never played with one, but with the adjustment possibilities in this holster system, I believe that with a bit of time and practice, you could adjust the holster to conceal your Glock 19 quite a bit more than you had in this video. I'd like to see a follow up after you'd used it daily for a few weeks in winter.

Seems like it would fit perfectly if there was an across the front strap.
You put the suspenders on in the front. The video the guy had them in the back and the guns tucked under a little further behind. I think you might just have your adjustments wrong and that’s why it prints
They should do a chest type holster as well.
They have an adapter that you can add it to your plate carrier as a chest mounted. and the adapter attaches to back pack shoulder straps for a cross body carry. they have videos for both. great alien gear stuff

Vertical (pointing down) is just safer for my mind set, the draw is a bit slower of course. But. in exchange.. it is WAY more concealable.
Though I feel like the kydex holster portion makes it really bulky too. could try finding a thinner one.
You can adjust where the straps attach to the holster making it vertical or any other angle you choose.
I just bought one for my full size Colt 1911 45 brown leather with only a single mag carrier for $228 with military discount.
You have never used a shoulder rig it can be adjusted not to print put it lower

Try changing the angle of the holster I think with alien wear you have several different angles to choose from?

I've developed some lower back issues and carrying iwb gets uncomfortable after long periods now. I typically carry at 5 o'clock (no I will not consider appendix as I hate appendix). I'm looking at this as a replacement carry option for a subcompact. Do you think this would work well with a subcompact? I want a better option to take pressure off of my waistline.
I drive for a living. Shoulder Holsters and Ankle holsters are great. I have 2 other brands of shoulder holsters and will be purchasing the Alien Gear one next. Get Shoulder Holsters in "Black". Black is better for the shadow of your clothing unless you are Don Johnson on Miami Vice. :))

Hard not to print when you're a slim guy and you carry a G19. Maybe try a G43?

There really ought to be more shoulder holsters for red dot mounted pistols. And we shouldn't have to pay a giant price just to be a guinea pig or see if it's right for us either. Ride safely brotha!
Unfortunately, it doesn't. The sights are too tall for the shell.

The sights clear the half shell for this shoulder holster. I had to modify the back opening to fit the Venom RDS. I love mine and wear it often with my Glock 19 Suppressor sights and Venom RDS. It will not work when you assemble the two shells together. In half shell, form it will work with minor modifications.
I'm not an expert on shoulder holsters but I think I prefer a vertical holster over a horizontal. I don't like the idea of pointing my firearm at people behind me at all. Muzzle pointed down to the ground seems safer even if it may be a quarter second slower to draw.
How would it look under a regular shirt though?
Question, there isn't an option for a Sig P226 does the 229 option work for a 226???
