Charles Barkley (20pts/33rebs) Outrebounds the Suns (1996)

  • Even though it's the second game of the 1996-97 season for Houston, it's the first game of the new look Houston Rockets since Barkley had got into a fight with Charles Oakley during pre-season. It's also his return to Phoenix, the place from which he demanded a trade. The crowd seems to be ready to get into it, but Barkley and the Rockets suck the life out of the building with the first minutes of the game. It's not hard to tell why Houston had a double digit lead for almost the whole 48 minutes. While Phoenix as a team had 8 offensive rebounds and 22 defensive rebounds, Sir Charles grabbed 8 on the offensive glass and 25 on the defensive. Barkley scored 20 points, to boot. I won't even get into the countless records he probably broke. The numbers themselves are impressive enough. November 2, 1996.

    Aging, injured Chuck out rebounding an entire team, shows you how tough he was.

    At 6`4 3/4 ft Old, Overweight, Back Injured and With Knee Trouble 33 Rebounds. Unreal! This Was The Old Barkley Not the Prime Barkley with the Sixers and Suns!

    Charles Barkley with his best rebounding performance of his career even though he was nearly past his prime as the Houston Rockets. I remembered watching that game because that day was my 13th birthday then and I counted all 33 rebounds as Sir Charles is the member of the 30+rebounds club. It was the last time an NBA player grabbed at least 30 rebounds for the next 14 years as Kevin Love grabbed 31 rebounds in 2010 and Andrew Bynum grabbed 30 rebounds in 2012. I am waiting for the next NBA player to join the 30 or more rebounds club in a game. Hope Andre Drummond or DeAndre Jordan or both get 30 or more rebounds in their single game.

    THose are strong, athletic rebounds. He went up hard, stretched back, grabbed them out of the air, reached back for them, protected the rebounds with his swinging elbows.

    He Was 6`4 3/4 or 5/8. He Was a Little Shorter than 6`5. Just Incerdible What He Was Able to Do as a Rebounder and Post Player Around the Basket.

    One of the greatest rebounders in NBA history, despite barely being 6'6". Some say he is about 6'4". Nonetheless, one of the greats.

  • @Defender80s
    @Defender80s 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Agreed. He Really Needed That Athletic Ability to Stay at the Top Level. Lets Remember Charles was Only 6`4 3/4 ft or 6`4 5/8 ft. That is 1.95 mt. So Loosing Athletic Ability Will Definetly Affect Your Game Especially For Someone So Undersized at His Position.

    The two greatest Suns? That's debatable. There was this point guard named Kevin Johnson who is extremely underrated and overshadowed, but was as good as any small point guard to ever play.

    Tjhunt76 was a great archivist too but his account was clotured because he published several hundreds of full 80's and 90's nba games and highlights. Hope Lamarmatic's channel is not going to be gone because of copyrights...

    Still Very Good But Not Great Like He Was With The Sixers and Suns. He Lost Athletic Capacity, Leaping Ability, Lateral Quickness, Agility etc When He Was in Houston. He Was More a Role Player in Houston. Even He Mentions This In The Interview Sir Charles at 50.

  • @marzilyas
    @marzilyas 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    oh i knew Tjhunt's stuff quite well DaRealist will not be soon forgotten. I had online exchanges with him pretty frequently at a certain point. LamarMatic is more in keeping with someone like NonPlayerZealot in that they just publish (rare) highlights. Sometimes it's fun to watch a full game, but they can be overwhelming, too. I usually prefer videos like this.

  • @marzilyas

    I'm surprised that no one has ever posted that footage on TH-cam, so far as I can tell. I saw the 'lowlight' at the time, but it did not occur on a nationally televised game or a game that many people were likely to be taping.
    As you may know, it wasn't really a fight, just Horry lashing out.

    I think that Magic was a little taller than that; I'd say 6'8", as he jumped center in the famous Game Six of the 1980 NBA Finals for a reason. I've heard that Barkley was 6'4" and 3/4, the same as Jordan.

    • @GrahamCStrouse
      @GrahamCStrouse 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      J Kidd Charles was always honest about his height. He was listed at 6'6" but if anyone asked him he would say he was about 6'4 1/2". They usually add an inch for shoes and round up.
