Glad to see more 300SM content. My SM comes out of winter hibernation this week, really stoked about that. Gixxer 750 gets to sleep for a couple more weeks before it comes out. Finally gonna start riding again. Man I hate winter.
Sumo is so much fun! It hits a different type of way than the 750, both have their places 💪🏻💪🏻
@liquidmetal I know that feeling. I've been bikeless for last 7 months from a bad accident, but got me a 300sm to replace my totaled 390 duke last month. can't wait...maybe 1 more month of PT and I'll be good to go.

A few buddies and I hit the Bushnell go karts today for the first time. Really impressed with that little track. We are all borderline ready to grab supermotos now so we can go back and have some real fun lol.
Tasty mods! And we totally agree. A gear indicator is pretty much a must. Right now 87 octane in Northern California is $5.69...AND THAT'S AT COSTCO!!!

I’m still waiting on my 2023 Klx and I’m already ordering upgrades. Got tires , levers, a set of wider pegs and bars lol. Next exhaust and headlight

The CRF250L actually doesnt come with a gear indicator - but i def wish it did! I recently made a 5 things I hate about my CRF250L video and the lack of a gear indicator was one of them 😂😂

I wish the HealTech gear indicator for the R6 was plug and play. It's not so simple and took me about 4 hours to install. I posted a vid about that. Regardless looks like fun to have a new project. Gas prices creeping toward $5/gal here in AL

What levers are those?
I put the same gear shift indicator on my wifes ninja 300. For this being 500$ more than the crf 300l that has a gear shift indicator and a gas guage, to have to spend another 200$ to tell what gear your in is insane. Not to mention this klx looks like you went back to 1995 and brought the bike to 2022, Kawasaki dropped the ball on this one.
Not entirely, because if you want to turn the CRF300L into a sumo you're going to spend over $1,000 on new rimes, tires, and rotors.
Dirt bikes haven’t changed in looks for some 33 years, so wtf cares? There were no supermoto bikes in ‘95. It’s a cool ass looking bike in 2023.
@SALTxTHExWOUND do you have a link for the rear sprocket that you got? Noticed you said it wheelies a lot easier and that’s what I’m going for, I can’t even get the wheel off the ground in 2nd gear. Everything’s stock

Great video, the KLX series reallys makes it nice to cross over mods to Dual Sport-Super Moto-Dirt. Do you have a detailed video or pics as to where/how the 4 pin connector is connected for the gear indicator?

Had no clue they made gear indicators, I just got my Klx300 and would LOVE a gear indicator. I clicked the link and checked out their website, and they are completely sold out lol.
Great review of this bike....What is the best bike overall, in your opinion, that you'd recommend for Bushnell FL track?
Honestly in my opinion for the average rider I would say a grom or z125. The klx300 was a lot of fun on that track but almost too much horsepower for how tight the turns are, at least at my level

To me, a gear indicator and fuel gauge should be mandatory👍
personally I dont feel the "need" for either on my KLX but a gear indicator would be nice so I dont keep making silly noob mistakes like taking off from a stop in 2nd or even worse 3rd and wondering why my bike is struggling to not stall lol but I know its just me being a noob and not paying attention, not really the bikes fault IMO. But I will say for the price your paying, and considering Kawi has been making this series of bike since the 90s they dont really have an excuse to not put some more bells and whistles on other than they are trying to make us sumo lovers bend over more to get what we want lol
Sweet bike man! I have one too, but in the black and blue. I want to put handguards on mine so I can possibly take it to the track. Did you have to drill holes in the bar to put those handguards in?
Hey man, I love that blue! Wish they would’ve had it in stock but I can always paint it if I want I suppose. Yes I drilled out the ends of the bars with a 7/8” bit I believe. Be careful when you do it bc the bars will get really hot and melt the grips, I made that mistake on the first side but I was replacing the grips anyhow. Just a heads up 👍🏻

I'm not a huge KTM honestly, just seem too many people have issues with their bikes. I would choose the KLX every time personally.
Even funnier than the KLX300 not having a gear indicator is the KLX230 not having a gear indicator, when the digital dash literally has a blank spot that is clearly for a gear indicator.

That being said, the oil prices rose by nearly 30% in the final 3 months of Trump’s presidency, which was then reduced to a 17% increase in the first 3 months of Biden’s presidency. Biden is hardly to blame, he’s doing what needs to be done.

No, just going to the 39T you can get by with the stock chain

Use a 7/8" metal drill bit and drill the end of the handlebar out, that's what I did
For the ride it levers do you happen to have a link because I can’t find them on their website for the 300sm
I had those adjustable trackside ones. They worked, but they broke the first time I dropped the bike.
I put Enduro Engineering hand guards on my KLX. Dropped the bike on the left side and bent the handlebar, but the handguard and clutch lever were fine.

I'm actually from North Carolina
I can tell what gear I’m in by listening to the revs/RPM’s. A gear indicator is akin to relying on the arrows on the side view mirrors on the car. In the old days we used to just turn our heads to see if anything was next to us B4 changing lanes or backing up. An improvement to the KLX would be a larger fuel tank.
If you rode the track you'd understand, you're constantly shifting gears and it's a good indication of your turn in speed and corner speed.
Was the 39t sprocket you got for the 250sf? Because I can’t find anything for the 300sm specifically.
yeah I believe so, everything from the klx250 fits the 300 as well
So you went with a 39 rear sprocket and where did you get it?
I actually found it on amazon, it's perfect honestly. A little more pep down low without sacrificing top speed
What's your average mpg?
I’ve been averaging around 55-65mpg depending on how I ride. 55 was hooligan on the back roads, 65 was commuting, and the worst was about 48mpg on the track in 2nd - 4th gear all day

I'm also trying to hook up the Healtech gear indicator. I found the front connector for speed control behind the headlight but I don't know where to hook up the black/green wire? Please give the wire and location and pic so I can complete the setup.

Finally, I figured it out myself. What's the big secret? Incase anyone wants to know, the Healtech gear indicator "black/green" wire goes to the #3 pin on the ECU connector, "crankcase sensor +", the wire is green/yellow.

No, stock front sprocket, it'll still cruise at 80mph it tops out at 93 now but has more get up and go down low
I bought the shift indicator and it didn't come with instructions so can do a video about the install. No one has done that for the klx300
I just filmed the video yesterday and should have it out soon 👍🏻
