    As I got older I learned the same thing. Simpler is easier. NEVER trust the side stand, take it off even. Gas fill tip...lift the under seat bin and place the cap sideways under the rear lip. Helps keep gas out of the bin and gives you a place for the cap.

    Chris: ... Without a doubt, your Vespa GTS300 is the "prettiest" looking scooter that I have ever seen. That combination of that very rich cranberry metallic paint finish in contrast with the bright work chrome is simply breathtaking. It is a definite head turner, not to mention the versatility, functionality and efficiency that it provides you. Thank You for the video. Greetings from Ontario, Canada.

    Have been riding a 2002 ET-4 for the past 4 years and loved it! Everytime I stopped somebody wanted to talk about the Vespa. Just moved up to a 2006 Piaggio BV250 because I wanted more speed but loved them both!

      bro, in mid-20th century Am-Anglo idiomatic English, "Knocked Out" is a positive idiom, not negative... i.e.... to say I was knocked out means it was a great benefit i am grateful for!! I thought you camera work was great.

      I'm 75 past Feb, ridden bikes all my life, now have a great wee Vespa Primavera Touring 125 with top box same colour and style as above bike. The 125 is really perky yet helps to keep my speed under control and is ridden all year round. From south east Scotland.

    I have a 2018 GTS 300 touring and I would totally agree with you. I started out on scooters and went on to own a Honda 250. Big drawback in the UK was that it was open to the weather. Then after years of cars I bought a couple of big bikes. I never found them fun, practical or comfortable. So I went back to scooters after hiring on holiday in Asia and Europe. The 2018 tourer is my second GTS and so much more practical and fun. In Asia I rarely wear a helmet, maybe not wise but sometimes some times you just have to be free, ride safe not shackled.

    Best video review of a motorcycle/scooter I've ever experienced. It is a beautiful thing to wake up from the brainwashing of bigger faster and louder is better. I have owned over 30 motorcycles in my life, and now I ride a Moto Guzzi V7 Stone and absolutely love it. Now I want a scooter.My scooter search is over. I'm getting a Vespa thanks to your review. I am so excited to find one.🤛

    A great video Chris and thanks for posting with it. I too have a GTS300ie abs/asr. I come from riding big bikes but thought it was time for a change. I don't regret buying the GTS. Mine is the 'Settantisimo' 70th anniversary model and is in Silver metallic paint. It's peachy! I do however really love the colour of your bike. Awesome, it looks so great! I've had my GTS for just over 2 years now and inspite of horrible winter weather here in the UK over two winters with lots of salt on the roads, my bike still looks in showroom condition. I do however detail clean it regularly every two weeks or so and I use protective chemicals such as Waxoyl and FS365 to stop salt corrosion. I've not had any issue with it and it's perfect for riding on any occasion. I only do 6,000-7000 miles a year on it but it's fine for what I need. I keep up just fine with the big boys on our ride outs. Carry on enjoying your bike...and thanks again!

    • @pccoder
      @pccoder  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ian Burg I clean very regularly too. I use NuFinish wax. It’s supposed to last an entire year and I apply it every 6 months (plan to). Regular cleaning is key in salty conditions. Living near the Atlantic Ocean means I have to stay on top of it.

    Note for the side stand: if you just nudge the bike form the left (so the weight comes off the stand), it flicks up and your bike falls over resulting in the common dent in the side panel. Don’t use it, or at least watch Scooter West’s video on modifying it to relocate the spring!!

    • @pccoder
      @pccoder  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      C7TV yeah I agree. Supposedly the kick stand is suppose to be “fixed” on the new models, but I don’t trust it. The only time I ever use it is a real quick hop off and fetch something from under the seat. Aside from that I never use it.

    Like you I have a Harley also. I like that red color. The Vespa is so damn convenient. Especially around town. To run to the hardware store or to Wal * Mart or to the local bar and grill for lunch. But, if I want to get on the turnpike, I'm taking the Harley. Around town, it's the Vespa, hands down. And if I feel the need for speed, I roll out the V-Max. Each one of my bikes has their specialty. Depends on my mood. Your right though, for all around fun the Vespa is hard to beat.

      M W I run into the same. It’s fairly rare compared to so many other bikes that people often want to talk about it when they see it. Down here in central Florida everyone drives a Harley and it’s always funny how they’re all trying to personify the Harley culture followed by putting on their suits on Monday to return to work. I see Harley as getting on the bike and riding to a destination, typically to drink beer. I ride the Vespa simply for the joy of being on the scooter.

    Love the Vespa. I thought about getting one for my vacation condo in Orange, CA. However, I needed a little bit more punch for the freeways in Southern Cal so i got the KTM Duke 390, which is a little bigger than the Vespa but wow, what a bike, cruise at 80, top speed over 100, yet small like a Vespa. I may still get a Vespa someday.......very nice!

  • @bjorneklund518

    On earlier GTS models you could leave the scooter on the kick stand with the engine running. Vibration from the engine could then cause the kick stand to roll over. That happened to me with a 2009 GTS 250 cc. With newer models putting down the kick stand stops the engine. After having hip surgery I use the kick stand a lot more than before. I would consider it quite safe unless you leave the scooter on a downhill surface.

    This is a great video and I appreciate you sharing
    I would've spent a lot less time comparing it to a Harley-Davidson or any other motorcycle because that ruins the quality of what you are doing here
    scooters and motorcycles have absolutely nothing in common
    I have ridden 250,000 miles on all kinds of motorcycles, but at the current time, the BMW GS adventure... But I will still have a Vespa in my garage and never get rid of the motorcycles
    the 2 serve entirely different purposes
    This is a great video and I hope you will make more, but there was no reason to spend most of the time saying I was a better vehicle for use in a motorcycle because people want to hear about how you like this Vespa because the truth is there are so few videos online because they are rarely sold
    most people who buy a scooter won't spend the $7000 when they think they can buy something almost as good for third the price
    you and I know that isn't exactly true. So the fact is, you have the opportunity to show us the best scooter made below the MAXI-SCOOTER class
    please post more with more rides
    no offense has been intended here, but spending time comparing this to a Harley-Davidson or any other motorcycle is fruitless
    we want to know more about this GTS touring so more people can go realize at $7000 is cheap for what you get here
    thanks for sharing

    Nice Video, Chris! Beautyfull Vespa. Don´t you need to wear helmets in Florida while driving a motorcycle like the GTS is ? Best regards from Germany !

    • @pccoder
      @pccoder  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vo. Thomas in Florida if you have motorcycle insurance you are not required to wear a helmet. Without insurance yes I would have to wear it. For short, slow rides like this I don’t wear one. If I’m driving fast with a lot of traffic I’d be wearing my helmet. The only requirement is that I must wear eye protection.

    • @vo.thomas1116
      @vo.thomas1116 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So it is legal to drive without any head protection but eye protection is required? :-) Totally different laws here in germany. :-) Nobody asks for eye protection but you´ll get arrested for driving without helmets. ;-) Ok, at least you have to pay a fine...

    • @pccoder
      @pccoder  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vo. Thomas I think their logic is that wearing eye protection means I’m less likely to crash into someone else if I were to be hit in the face with something, like perhaps a rock. If I’m injured without a helmet, and have insurance, I’m able to pay for the damages I may personally incur upon myself.
      Their logic is flawed but at least it allows me to enjoy short, low speed rides without a helmet.
      To be fair getting in a motorcycle accident of any significance isn’t going to end well with or without a helmet.
