As a woman in her mid '80s, I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in my 60's and was put on Fosamax for 2 years but it wasnt helping to build up my bones and it was irritating my digestive system so I got off of it and thru a blood test I found that I was low in vitamin D3 and other minerals so my doctor put me on a high dosage of D3, ( 6000 mg) plus K 2 which helps the calcium go to the bones, plus magnesium and other minerals. My dexa scan showed that there was a reversal of my osteoporosis. Of course, I follow Dr. Gundrys diet also. Now in my mid '80s I am still active so far no breaks and I do yoga and use weights to keep my muscle mass up. Exercise as walking also is important walking for 30 minutes three times a week. Also I take a gentle yoga class that helps my balance, flexibility, etc. I am thankful I can still enjoy my favorite activities and family. 0:10

In older women, osteoporosis is most often caused from a lack of estrogen. Estrogen and all of the sex hormones are intimately involved in both building bone and slowing down bone resorption. Women lose the most bone in the first 7 to 10 years after menopause. There are other causes such as celiac and Crohn’s disease because of being unable to absorb nutrients. Also, many drugs such as PPIs and steroids effect bone density. Nodules on the parathyroid gland can also result in bone loss as the parathyroid is responsible for calcium distribution in the body. Yes, leaky gut could be a factor has one loses the ability to absorb nutrients that the bones need.
Right. The cause and the treatment is not always simple. A healthy diet, supplementation, exercise, and fixing Leaking Gut, checking for Thyroid problems help. Long term HRT is not always recommended due to risk of cancers.
I was on hormones bio identical but now have eight friends with all different types of cancers. I’m 66 almost 67 now and stopped the hormones after one year. Just not worth the risk if I can go to osteo strong and eat plant paradox. I’m starting both. I take d3 and k2 mk7 as well as grow bone and will get dexa and the bone strength test in March
Also regarding bone density The scans can’t tell when there is lead in the bones. Lead replaces calcium and makes the bones brittle. Slow and careful metal detox is another important piece of this puzzle... using excellent nutrition.

This one size fit all and what you should weigh at a certain height is hogwash. Gravity has brought everything downward. Keep that in mind and know your body. Exercise eat real food and enjoy life. Your bones will never ever be like a 20 year old, again.
Dr. Grundry, I have also been diagonosed with osteopenia. I have eliminated lectins from my diet and working on fruit intact only on the weekends as you have suggested, but still my right hip is causing an in balance, I have difficulty moving that right leg, but after 23 miles of biking or an hour of yoga, don't ask me to stand up. So I assume my muscles are strong. However the excessive pain from my hip prevents me from getting out of bed early like I prefer. I also have a spur on that hip. Can this diet of yours help remove this spur or is that a whole other can of worms?

I just had a blood test for my annual exam and my calcium is double the high amount (20) we did a retest and it was still above normal. I have never had a broken bone in my life. It's not normal to have high serum calcium. It's possible you have a parathyroid tumor, so you should look into that. It can cause osteoporosis. If they remove the diseased parathyroid, very often the osteoporosis reverses itself over time.
My compression fractures were not seen on Dexa but were on my Pet CT for my cancer surveillance. They happened when on Prolia. 2 seemed to be muscle pulls when lifting my vaporizer reservoir. Two I never knew I had. One from a fall. I eat low carbohydrate diet focusing on high quality meats and fats. None of the drugs works the same as the first year you take them. I am now working with a bone health group and they will focus on more natural bone strength approaches. My sister’s knee broke without any impact other than walking.

Just this week got the results of my 2nd dexa bone scan in the last 4 years, and dx osteopenia again. I take vitamins but I am adding more calcium, boron, and more trace minerals. I need to lift weights too and bought a weighted vest. I read muscle health is important for bone health too. I’m not too worried because I know big pharma now has meds for bone growth like you said so of course we now have better detection scans, and I’m 54 yo so I expect some bone loss. Oh I added bhrt this year too.
One of those drugs is called Prolia. My mom had exactly this issue and when she stopped taking that drug before a dental surgery, her bones revealed too fragile and broke. I wish she would change her diet, but she rarely eats anything green. Thank you, Dr Gundry for the good advise.

I have osteoporosis and artrose because my mother was given a wrong medicine named "DES"-hormoon it is a wrong medicine given from 1947 till 1976 to many women who had a miscarige en were pregnant again. I and also many other women en man can also have no children. So it is not always a way of living. Luckely they could give me new hipes and knies and yesss I am now 74 years old but I always must be carefull I can not take haevy things and broke my arms 3 times and have Titatium in it and altogether 12 srews.

Not a doctor here, so no medical advice, just some ideas to do some research on your own: I would look into taking sufficient vit D, K2, magnesium (e.g. as glycinate), zinc, vitamin C and eat sufficient animal proteins (or if you are vegetarian/vegan, essential aminoacids as a powder alternative) and carefully, under professional help, start resistance training. I would also cleanup my diet (less carbs, more animal protein).
I would think the best end result from addressing osteoporosis is to move from Osteoporosis to Osteopenia. A T score of -2.5 is Osteopenia. A T score of -2.6 is Osteoporosis! And it’s not diet alone. You need to exercise/ weight lifting, resistance training.

I've read if no indications not to ,that HRT continuously especially the patch form makes life so much better

Hyperparathyroidism caused my osteoporosis plus all the symptoms that were mentioned... I agree the medications are not the awnser.

My mother was on Forteo injection for years for Osteoporosis and given 50,000 iu of Vit D by prescription. It did NOT reverse her osteoporosis.

If no machine invented to tell me my bones at 66 aren’t as dense as my 30 yr old bones ?
Nothing about this older body is similar to my 30 yr old self and it’s not unexpected
