      The other side of the coin is listen to what he says - maybe with perfect stride length / optimal form he could've taken off a bit more. Maybe not. Other videos say every elite / world class runner has a weak area that could be better - even if it's not much and they're very close to 100% technique potential. But yes of course self-criticism from an Olympic champion to us mere mortals - sub 13 5km very exclusive club.

    Mo, I think you're one of the greatest runners ever, technically and mechanically, you've got such a great technique and cadence, for me, Yourself, Bekele and Kipchoge are the 3 kings of elite running! I would love to hear your opinion on carbohydrate consumption and general diet for distance runners, and what aspects of the Kenyan/Ethiopian running technique you've incorporated in to your own personal style. Love the videos, keep them coming ;)

    It’s actually crucial to have a good stride length in the short distance sprinting as well, such as the 100m, simply because the longer your stride is, the more m/s you’re going to cover. However, you should be careful and NOT overstride. 😉

    The problem is that many of us, new-born former couch potatoes, we really don't have the strength or the flexibility to lengthen our stride properly so we'll make a mess out of it.
    Probably the best advice IMHO would be: work on that first. Work on your posture, strengthen your feet and legs. With hard work your hip will at some point naturally extend farther than before giving you a longer stride when needed.
    Of course if you've been an athlete for years and are being coached properly, you already knew all that.

    • @cecilevans9247
      @cecilevans9247 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I would say work on turnover before working on stride length. Get to 180 per minute, then increase stride length. Stride length has a lot to do with how hard you push off, not just how far you try and reach with your lead leg. That just comes from general running fitness and strength.

    Can you elaborate more on what you are thinking while running/training? Like do you sometimes catch yourself not striding as long and say, lengthen it .. or find yourself spending too much time on the ground per stride, and say to yourself, get off the ground quicker? Do you catch yourself tightening your hands and tell yourself to relax them? Or do you just try and clear your mind completely and not worry about anything? Stuff like that.. As far as the mind clearing, races seem to do that. So I imagine my question is more for training; what kind of things do you think about that you want your body to just "automatically do" when you're racing. From what i've seen, this is the least discussed topic, would be great if you could offer even more insight into it. Thanks so much. Peace!!

    • @Evan-kj6ye
      @Evan-kj6ye 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t know if your talking about your breathing or how to improve but, if your having trouble breathing you have to run more often. You’ll get used running longer which will work the aerobic system and you can strengthen this by doing long but slow runs. Try to also practice breathing, take deep breathes and gradually exhale.
      If you need to drop your time on the mile, I suggest you doing sprints like 400 repeats and 200’s. Also you should incorporate tempo run this will help you keep your pace when your tired. If your aiming for a 5 minute mile, you should be keep a fast steady pace which requires speed endurance and stamina. You should consult your coach or seek a training plan for the mile.
