I think Logic Pro's Mastering Assistant gave the most natural sounding result, Grand Finale had a greater frequency range boost, giving it more low end and high end but changed the sound more and BandLab's masters sounded rather dull in comparison but only because of the brightness of Grand Finale - I think on its own without the comparison it would be very usable. But my favourite is Logic Pro.

Completely agree Colin, though I'm on the fence on whether I like Logic's mastering or Grand Finale more.

I wonder what Apple will give us for our 50 quid sub next year? More than one update perhaps?

If you’re not happy paying for using the app ‘as is’ it’s probably better to not renew really. Or switch to the £5 a month option.

I think they all do a fine job. But nothing compares to Lurssens Mastering Console.

Marc mentioned Lurssens MC too. I was put off by the poor App Store reviews, but i'll need to take another look. Appreciate you watching Jade!

I was just reading all the reviews and they weren’t good at all. How is it holding up for the newer iOS versions, since it hasn’t been updated in 5 years?

@@scottgriceprojects @thelogicproguide It works well (I'm up to date on iPadOS 17.4.1). But then at the cost of the unlocks it really should. I think IK's approach is to only update if something breaks, so we'll see what happens when iPadOS 18 comes out in the autumn, but the last few yearly apple updates have been fine......

Just listening through the phone speakers, Grand Finale sounded a bit muddy, and Bandlab was had more high end. Mastering assistant opened up the mix a bit more. Overall, MA and Bandlab sounded better than GF, in my opinion.

One thing you didn't mention is that Bandlab will master your track at 16 bits resolution (unless it changed recently and I'm not aware of it). That being said, Logic's Master assistant is a great free option but the best of the 3 is Klevgrand with all the settings that you can tweak but, at the end of the day, I have to agree with Jade Starr and say that Lurssens is far superior to any of these. It cost more but it's well worth it.

I wasn't aware BandLab did that Marc, thanks for clarifying. I'll need to look into Lurssens mastering console - the app store reviews put me off trying it before.

Would’ve loved to have seen AudioMaster compared.

I may do a follow up comparing MA to AudioMaster and IK’s Larsson mastering console.

To my ear, Logic Pro was the most pleasing 🎧 I find myself using the Punchy preset on Logic the most 🤘

Have you checked Trinity (Seven Systems) and AudioMaster Pro (Future Moments). Dont own but I would like to see someone do video comparisons. Also AudioScope (4pockets) and Chow MultiTool are great tools to have.

I own Trinity. It’s a fantastic all in one mastering tool for iPad. Can recommend it.

AudioMaster does the job pretty well. Used it for some of my projects. Maybe it could be reviewed on Patrick’s channel 😊. Thanks for this video 👍

On the second track, the Klevgrand version sounded much more muffled, like the high end was significantly shelved, losing some of the excitement and energy of the track. Also, I wish you'd played a sample of the original unmastered mix before demonstrating the mastering processes. That way, we could get a better sense of what's actually happening. Anyway, thanks!
