His pressing is also clever: he's not a relentless dog chasing a ball, but makes defenders uncomfortable enough to make mistakes - which our midfield/Taremi exploit really well! 2) Alex forgot to mention something Diaz excels in: receiving long balls in behind defenders. In Porto he was a prime target to receive balls from Otávio, Taremi, Fábio Vieira and Vitinha. He times his runs perfectly and then unleashes powerful sprints that opposing defenders can't meet. For example, Porto x Benfica, the way he sent André Almeida to retirement home was amazing (and ended up assisting Evanilson eheh)

He's been bangin' for Porto here in the Portuguese Premier and I'm really excited to see him in Liverpool. Guy has been absolutely outstanding for Porto the whole season and is one of the league's top 5, easily. As a Benfica and Liverpool fan, this means that one of my favorite clubs' biggest rivals lose their best player and my other favorite club gets an outstanding player, for now and for the future, in a position where we needed a reinforcement, for a deal that is, in my opinion, a bargain. Can't wait to see him in action.
As a porto fan (and therefore not a Liverpool fan, for obvious reasons) hopefully galeno and Pepe will step up and be able to, sooner or later, cover for him.

I was looking for this comment. EVERYONE PRESSES with Jurgen Klopp. I didn't know that about Porto but if you watch him for the NT he definitely presses and steals the ball a lot, so that was a particularly bad take from TIFO
My thoughts exactly when I saw that. He pressed a lot under Conceição and even in the national team, many times managing to either get the ball back or at least delay the oposition's play.
What I think his style of play brings to Liverpool is the option to stick a “proper” 9 up front. Firmino is about creating space, which Dias does by pulling over CB too, to cover under/overlapping options.
Diaz also keeps the ball quite well, the Double Pivot Pod talked about his ball security in the final third being another quality he has that give him a bit of Firmino's profile as well as the other Liverpool forwards.

yes, this is THE biggest plus for me. And the front 3 has looked a bit jaded up until Jota breathed life into it. Now with Dias people are terrified once again.
I think recently Klopp has been finding solutions to countering low blocks. They recently beat Brentford 3-0 and Crystal Palace 3-1 despite opposition defenders being tightly packed in the box.

I wouldn't consider that a low block compared to a Burnley or even in a manner Athletico. But you're right, the use of Harvey in RCM over hendo in the beginning of the season showed Klopp's evolution and having a bit more attack-minded midfield over the traditional covering fullbacks midfield. Diaz provides adds versatility to the attack and in specific the left side with sadio having a dip in form.

Diogo Jota scores beautiful headers by smart positioning and anticipating the correct timing of the jump. He rarely beats defenders in an aerial duel. Yet he has chalked up a dozen goals when marked by CBs 4-5 inches taller than him. As for comparisons with Mane and Salah, Diaz has the potential but it has to be proven on the pitch. It is silly to set expectations so high until he has a season or two in the PL under his belt.

He seems promising, but at the same time, this is his first good season and only in a low league. He had a good Copa America but mainly due to one game. He is also quite old for breaking through. He may well set the world alight, but maybe expectations are a bit high.
It's not his first good season though. This is his first season where he is clearly the best player in Portugal. 14 and 11 goals in all comps his first two seasons for a left midfielder is quite good. He also didn't play any organised football until 18 years old, so his timeline is waay different from majority of other footballers.

He seems promising, but at the same time, this is his first good season and only in a low league. He had a good Copa America but mainly due to one game. He is also quite old for breaking through. He may well set the world alight, but maybe expectations are a bit high.
It's not his first good season though. This is his first season where he is clearly the best player in Portugal. 14 and 11 goals in all comps his first two seasons for a left midfielder is quite good. He also didn't play any organised football until 18 years old, so his timeline is waay different from majority of other footballers.
Hmm but he got an assist on his debut from a high press situation. I think that part of his game will keep developing
