At the end of the day, what has the EU and U.S done for Laos to get out of poverty and move into the future like the rest of its wealthy neighbors among ASEAN members and peers? China BRI is what Laos needed for a very long time and is the only country that is looking at Laos while the EU and U.S avoid Laos for many decades and using the term debt trap as a tool to oppress Laos and anyone under the BRI. As a Laotian and our community, we the Lao people support this BRI 100% because China is the only country that cares.

The most classic views of whites:
First, China has destroyed the slow and peaceful pace of rural life in Laos. This is the erosion of Lao's traditional culture.-----------Yes, the economic model of poor family farming workshops is most suitable for Laos.
Second, China has created a debt trap and made Laos an exploited person---------Western aid is the most humane and reasonable. You see, the life of Lao people is stable and peaceful, unlike 50 years ago. Change.
Third, the neo-colonialism of the Chinese empire ---------Because we were once colonists, we know best what colonialism is. Although we no longer talk about it, we just know it, and now we are democracy Disseminator of freedom and all good values, and rule-making and defender.

This western report used the same old playbook that they used to insinuate the Kenya Std Gauge Rail project completed in 2017. Which is unsustainable debts for a poor nation and Chinese influence. Can the western media take a break and report news on the project instead of looking at everything with geopolitical lens? Look at Kenya now, no doubt the railways are yet to break-even but the contribution to Kenya's economic growths are by leaps and bounds, with GDP at $98 billion in 2020. If western media love speculation and politics, why don't condemn the unsustainable Japanese rail projects in Thailand and Vietnam which never seem to get started but already mired in scandals and corruptions. Western media shouldn't assume that by censoring and not reporting on the Japanese failed projects, the audience would believe and trust their news naively.

This is a debt that one can see. Why, how about the IMF debt trap? How much is Laos owing the American IMF, as compared to a physical road that has been built to improve the trade between nations which will subsequently improve the lives of many people. With good trade roads many lives will be taken out poverty.
So this is a good venture, good for the people of Laos, let them trade between themselves and develop their own ecomies.
The economy of Europe is develop largely because of good network roads that connects the whole Europe. Goods flows from one country to another smoothly, China understands this too well, and is doing just the right thing for a great future of that region. So the west cries foul for a great project like this?
Did the Asians cried when the Europeans were constructing their roads network linking the whole of Europe? You can travel all over Europe by car, business opportunities flows between European countries, so let the Asian develop their roads network and they will see how their lives will improve greatly.

The real trap of IMF and World Bank is that they require the recipient country to implement neoliberal economic policy in order to receive the SAL (Structural Adjustment Loans). Developing countries have to privatize state owned enterprise, lower trade barrier, reduce public spending, remove state subsidies on key sectors. All those neoliberal policies will wipe out the developing countries' remaining weak industrial sector and make them a dumping ground for foreign goods, such that multinational corporations behind IMF and World Bank can come in and make huge revenues. IMF and World Bank are complicit with big capitalists and corporations. They don't care about the industrial and manufacturing progress in developing countries. In fact, they prefer developing countries not to become industrialized countries.

😱. The new railway will boost business between Laos and China which is just a small milestone for BRI. The whole southeast Asia, including Thailand, Combodia, Malaysia, Vietnam etc. will enjoy further prosperity which the westers do not like to see. Great move for a better Asia.

The total length of the China-Laos Railway is 1035 kilometers, of which 136 bridges were erected, 93 tunnels were dug, and the total length is 398 kilometers... It is difficult to imagine,
it only took 5 years to complete. This alone is enough to prove the unparalleled strength of China's infrastructure construction.
We might as well think about the current progress of Japan's construction of more than 500 kilometers of high-speed rail for India. With delays time and time again, Japan and India are
now delaying the completion time to 2048. Let’s take a look at Japan’s construction of several dozen kilometers of light rail for Vietnam, which has not been completed in ten years. When
looking at the GWR high-speed rail built by Japan for the United Kingdom on the first day, after 25 minutes of driving, the air conditioner in the car suddenly leaked seriously, and the whole
car became a "water curtain hole". When people asked why Britain did not choose China’s high-speed rail, the answer of the British politician is that “purchasing high-speed rail from China
may offend a certain “important ally” of the UK.” Everyone knows that Britain's "important ally" is the United States.

    • @chinahamyku6583

Ironically, when Britain was pressured by the United States for choosing China’s high-speed rail, The Chinese subway trains used on the Orange Line of the Boston Metro in the United States are rolling off the line and are ready to be put into commercial operation; US railroad officials happily cut the ribbon for the Orange Line of the Boston Metro along with the senior officials of CRRC. . . .

Even beyond these two there are wider issues like environmental regulations, labour laws with good uninons in many of the western countries compared to the situation in china and in thn countries it does projects in.
But most important, as explained in the video the loan taken is a significantly part of the contries GDP making it a bigger risk.
For example we both can take a million dollar loan. While you can pay 100 thousand a year I am only paying back 10 thousand a year. I can't repay the loan in time and get my assets repossessed.
China knowingly giving out large loans that the contry can't realistically repay in time. This is the reason they don't get large investments from other countries. Because these aren't financially viable.
But now china gets to bring in their own equipments and laborers so employing Chinese people and supporting their own industries and pays them with the money loaned out to you. Thnir momey simply goes brck to them while the host contry is paying the interest on. And when the loan is not paid in time they take control of various assets. Exactly what happened in Sri Lanka. Built a massive port. When it didn't produce the profits estimated SL defaulted the payments and ended up giving out a long lease to China. And the same is now going on in Africa and pakistan is the next big defaulter hanging by a thread.

Why do the US and many Western countries
    have no high-speed trains?
Have big car and oil companies paid off our politicians
to keep the trains from expanding
and was it intended for train companies to FAIL completely?
US train company Amtrak’s chronic delays are costing millions of dollars.
    It’s spending more on fuel,
labour and even maintaining extra locomotives and rail cars
than it needs as a result of poor on-time performance.
Even if they add more than 50 new routes
they’re still one our two hours SLOWER than a car.
The cost for UK HS2 high-speed-train project
has ballooned from 30 billion to over 120 billion.
    To reduce the production cost
they're cutting certain sections of the HS2 tracks
which means they're going to use the EXISTING TRACKS
the HS2 trains will travel on the same speed
    as the existing trains
or maybe just 5 to 10 minutes faster.
    Paying over 120 billion
    just for 10 minutes faster.
    It's not even high-speed trains
like the ones China are building around the world.
Could it be deliberate by these companies
that have more to gain from the consumers
buying cars and the petrol to run them
dealing with all the parties involved,
politics and people with their HANDS IN THE POT
and not to mention the high price
to buy the land and labour costs are astronomical?
And why has the US a terrible healthcare system,
    low internet speed
    more mass shootings,
fighting unpopular, endless and costly wars in other countries
    air and water pollution
    no high-speed trains
    bad food quality
    hormones in beef and pork
genetically modified crops, fruits and vegetables
    chlorinated chicken
overprocessed convenience food full of chemicals?
    Aren’t powerful companies and banks
paying off governments in the West
and how much these companies CONTROL and RUN our governments?
China's BRI built high-speed trains in Asia and around the world.
    But we’re expected to believe
China and Russia are the threat for the world
the US intends to defend the "rules-based order"
that Russia and China are posing a challenge to.

China-Laos high-speed railway has a total length of around 643 miles (1,035 km) and costed about $6 billion. Problem for Laos? I don't think so. Laos, with their natural resources, can easily manage $6 billion debt.
On the other hand, California high-speed railway from San Francisco to Los Angeles, currently under construction, is expected be around 800 miles (1300 km) in length when completed is already costing nearly $80 billion and is estimated to cost $100 billion when completed. As an American, I certainly don't want to pay for that. Hopefully, only Californians get the bill.

See how much the West is distressed over a single railway in the developing world?? What has the US given Laos except the status of the most bombed country in the history of the world?
Over the last 70 years the West gave its best effort r to keep the Global South poor and undeveloped through real debt traps of the World bank and IMF with "structural adjustments”, at the same time inciting political instability and internal and external conflicts and controlling the South through puppet governments. Over the last 60 years the west has drained 152 trillion dollars from the Global South and net growth of the North depends on the appropriation from the rest of the world. China is putting an end to that through BRI, hence the new Cold war.
The modern history of the US is a history of one long, relentless uninterrupted war against the developing world in order to keep them poor and undeveloped What scares the living bejesus out of US plutocratic elite is not so much China's economic or military might but rather China's BRI initiative which undermines US dollar as a reserve currency and threatens to make the entire world developed. That's why they are financing extremists in these countries in the hope that they will burn all the power plants and destroy all roads, bridges, highspeed railways, ports...etc. that China is building there. The US had 70 years of time and far more resources than China to build this infrastructure there. Just ask yourself: Why didn't they do it?
