It’s funny how some songs you associate with an event and can never disentangle them. This was playing on a radio in a classroom just before Easter 2000 and I saw someone who I realised I had fallen madly in love with again. It was the first time I ever felt like that for another person. It was like a whole other part of my existence had been revealed and could now no longer be ignored.
I’m a huge Madonna fan, but this cover is terrible. It’s completely soulless and does no justice to Don McLean’s iconic original. It barely got a mention in the recent 50th anniversary documentary about the song called The Day The Music Died. It was a conspicuous omission because numerous other artists’ covers of the song were included. Don didn’t mention Madonna’s cover once, it only got a passing mention in the film from Weird Al Yankovic, who had done one of his parodies of the original the year before Madonna’s cover came out.

I don’t even think that Don meant to pose the question as if there’s a real choice. I rather think that he meant it totally to mock all the people who follow something or somebody blindly without actually making up their own opinion about it.
It’s happening right now in the USA with too many people following Trump without even wanting to see his true face, and it’s actually pretty much the same people who “have faith in god above” just because “the bible tells” them “so”. Coincidence? I don’t think so!

I listened a few times to Don McCleans version; Madonna's version doesn't even come close. She's actually one of those "musicians" that got worse as I grew older. And as much as I admire her as a very strong and determined woman, I'm beginning to see she grew from absolutely nothing.
Was she able to read bars, did she ever played an instrument?

Here we are in 2025 and this video couldn't be more timely. She has and will always be ahead of her time. This and the song/video "American Life" were beyond prophetic.

It’s funny how some songs you associate with an event and can never disentangle them. This was playing on a radio in a classroom just before Easter 2000 and I saw someone who I realised I had fallen madly in love with again. It was the first time I ever felt like that for another person. It was like a whole other part of my existence had been revealed and could now no longer be ignored.

I never get tired of listening to so many hits and good musical covers that Madonna has. She is my favorite artist forever.
And she is the most beautiful women in pop culture history.
I’m a huge Madonna fan, but this cover is terrible. It’s completely soulless and does no justice to Don McLean’s iconic original. It barely got a mention in the recent 50th anniversary documentary about the song called The Day The Music Died. It was a conspicuous omission because numerous other artists’ covers of the song were included. Don didn’t mention Madonna’s cover once, it only got a passing mention in the film from Weird Al Yankovic, who had done one of his parodies of the original the year before Madonna’s cover came out.

This is the first Madonna's music video that I remember to have seen, I was 11 y.o. in elementary school. I loved it at first time, the melody, her warm voice singing so beautifully; makes me feel so nostalgic although I'm not american.

Here's my perspective on this song. I'm first generation US born, Dominican parents. My day when the music died: February 21, 2024. The day my dad lost his battle with cancer, leaving me without my family of origin as some also passed away and some relationships simply reached their end. Though I'm stepping into the future alone, I'm doing so with a heart full of bittersweet memories. Bye-bye, Mr. American Dad - a proud Dominican immigrant who loved America with all his heart. Your memory stays with me.
I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that this is one of the best music videos ever. Madonna is the queen of pop, the one and only, because she was the best at pushing boundaries.
