@@MB-uy6ei the way i learned to do new tasks in the aviation field was to have someone whos done the work amd signed off on it themselves teach me the procedure in person, while consulting the manual, then doing said procedure and having them sign off on it alongside me. For automotive stuff, youtube essentially provides me with said folks to walk me through the process. Only difference is they dont inspect my workafter the fact. Which im not too worried about for simple tasks like so, the stuff i do worry about i will take it to a trusted and better equipped shop than my own.
I spent many hours over several days, with crow bars, pry bars, WD40. Nothing worked. I watched your video and opened the tailgate in 5 minutes. If you ever need anyone to play HERE COMES THE BRIDE on a tuba at your daughter's wedding, I will do it for free.
Thanks so much for your video. I just arrived at a campground with my fifth wheel and could lower the tailgate to unhook. While I was able to raise the fifth wheel high enough to get the truck and camper separated…I worked for a while, with no success, before I watched your video. Like the others, five minutes and the tailgate is down and the parts are ordered. Much appreciated!
Thank you!!!! Mine broke today at the county dump! It was a beeotch unloading the truck with the tailgate stuck closed. My left side broke as well, just like in the video. You probably saved us all around $350 from the Chevy “STEALership” from fixing this simple piece!
Thanks to this i dont have to lift 5gal buckets full of wet paydirt up and over my stuck tailgate now. Bad enough i gotta carry em half a mile from the river let alone hyuck em up and over on my own lol. You probably saved me from an impending squished disc in my back.

Thank you for this...5 minute fix....i did NOT have a retainer clip but NEEDED my gate operational immediately...i tacked a small alligator clip to the back of the 1 inch rod piece for a temporay fix...it worked...end of story...very gratedul to you...
Thanks for the video. My 2006/07 Silverado was a little different. Had to take all three bolts out to get the cover off. Ended up cracking the cover trying to pry off. So the cover on my truck is designed with different clips.

You were right on. 2010 chevy silverado. Exactly what was wrong with mine.
I just use some electric fence wire and just twisted it so that that rod could not come off again thanks for the great video

That's exactly what it was, thanks. Seen a video where they loosened all bolts and then hit bolts to remove cover. Worked for me.

I used vice grips to bend a hook on the end of the rod, and then used solid copper wire to attach it to the lever piece. Never again!
