    Hi fish. It's great to stumble on a channel by somebody who is relatively new into locksport. Most channels I have come across are by people that I would consider experts in this field. I find it refreshing to see relatable videos posted by somebody who is still in the process of acquiring the skillsets of a master lockpicker as I myself is just a few months into lockpicking. I will be waiting to see more of your videos as I believe it is very valuable to newbies like me.

      Thanks Jeff - it’s funny mate that what one person likes another considers not ‘locksport’ related. I guess the lesson is to just keep making the content I enjoy making to the best of my ability and hope it lands for enough other people 😉

    Good video Fish. I have one and I have to say I am impressed with its quality, eases. Better than my older models - key gauge and separate pin gauge various mostly American locks manufacturers brands. In a all one package. Good brain teaser, process of elimination puzzle. Take care and I have been enjoying the past videos.

    Very good!
    I do have some 3d printed decoders for various US makes, not tested them yet as to their accuracy- but saw a showcase by DO on these and shall be investing in one, soon enough. Plus, I have a set of Lishi clips and have recently acquired two prehistoric key cutting machines, with 100s of blanks- which I'm dying to try out.
    Definitely more products needed for the Euro lock market.
    A subject of great interest to me and I thoroughly enjoyed this vid- thank you.😁

    Fun idea! To answer your question of finding the solution with less information, I don’t believe this is possible. Assuming we have a unique solution, that is that each pin set corresponds to only one key, and each key corresponds to only one pin set, then mathematically we can treat it as an independent system for each pair. Without further constraints, the information (number of bitting measurements as counted in your description) required to solve it should follow 2*(n-1) where n is the number of pairs. So for 1 pair, you know those pins match that key. For 3 sets, you’d need 4 measurements. For 100 sets you’d need 198 measurements. At least, as far as I can figure at the moment.
    Side note, I believe “Ollam” is pronounced more like “Olaf” en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ollam
    Thanks for another entertaining Locksport video!

    • @fishpicks4531
      @fishpicks4531  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good logic there mate and I had no idea about ‘Olaf’ - I imagine a lot of people make that error! Appreciate the correction 🙌

      @@fishpicks4531 I was surprised by the pronunciation myself. I only learned it when I happened upon a video where it was mentioned, and I discovered I had been saying it wrong for months. 😅

    While maybe a fun brain exercise this feels more like a riddle than anything to do with locksport, I would have much preferred a simple review of the "ddc" and comparison to other options... Eg. Reliability and time investment vs micrometer/calipers. As always thanks for the video.

    • @fishpicks4531
      @fishpicks4531  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment - yes I agree. I felt that the card was, to a degree, self explanatory which is why I mentioned in the commentary that it wasn’t a review really - more a thought experiment. I hope I made it clear what the benefits of the card are without labouring the point with footage of me measuring pins and keys ad nauseum which I felt wouldn’t be terribly interesting. I think my definition of locksport would include things like puzzle locks and lock-related food for thought. There are plenty of excellent channels which are dedicated to picking more specifically - I guess I’m just sharing the things that interest me in a way that I hope is engaging. 🙏

  • @erichkitzmueller
    @erichkitzmueller 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Using just 3 moves is only possible with some constraint: If we assume that the deepest cut for each key is different and that we can compare and order them by their deepest cut just by looking, without having to use the card, it goes like this:
    1) order the keys by their deepest cut: K1P3 and would not need the decoder card at all ;-)

      @fishpicks4531  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like your thinking here Erich and agree with the caveat too!

    Hi Andy,
    I'd really love a decoder card for european lock brands, but which brands should be covered?
    Yale for the UK of course... germany has Abus, BKS, Burg Wächter, DOM, ... don't know actually who of them is most common, but they were the first that came to my mind...
    probably we'd need more than one card to cover all of them, unless some of them share their spacings :D
    Maybe we need to compress the layout, so we could fit more slots on one card, for the pins e.g. the width of a pin + tolerance would be OK and the same applies for the width of the key
    However, I'd buy the DDC20 if we'd have more of these locks here in germany/EU/UK ;)

    • @fishpicks4531
      @fishpicks4531  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I guess that is the problem with having such a great range of manufacturers to choose from in Europe. Perhaps it would be a case of identifying the top 4 or 5 locks in residential use in each country and then producing something specific for each market.

    Hey fish!! This was a fun one. I have always enjoyed a good puzzle. So, thinking of ways to match them in 4 moves was fun. In 3 moves..... that’s hard.

    Maybe I missed the point because I would just visually match the set of pins with 2 extra long pins to the only corresponding key. Another key only has one large bitting jump. The card would just be used for double checking.... You said fastest way.

    • @fishpicks4531
      @fishpicks4531  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Allyn the point was to test the concept - not the bitting profiles for these particular keys. 😉

    • @KickassKriss
      @KickassKriss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know... I also thought that the rules stated meant only 3 measurements - 3 individual pins/cuts. With that stipulation, the only solution I could find was case specific.

    • @fishpicks4531
      @fishpicks4531  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KickassKriss I did say in the commentary that I was defining a ‘measurement’ as the decoding of a key or set of pins - but easy to miss this I guess. 🤷‍♂️

    I don't know how long you've had the card for, but the 2nd run of the DDC-20 was slightly defective, the metal lining being too thin. My card personally had the defect, and pins measured one size smaller.
    If you haven't already checked it out, Deviant has a video to test your own card on his channel, and instructions with how to reach out to get a new one (for free) if yours is defective.
