    Bose Companion 2 III this time against much bigger Edifier R1280T. Both speakers compete in the same 100dollar/euro price bracket. Edifier, for me, is better, more balanced speaker with good bass response, more natural (if a bit flat and hollow) midrange and nice high end. Bose, again, is all midrange (clear but a bit honky and forward, better suited for acoustic music than Edifier), with no high end and decent bass. Edifier is better value IMO. What do You think? If You have any questions use comment section. Cheers!

    I've owned both, the Edifiers are better but I needed something space saving and the Companion's are just fine for me. Of course the bass is going to go to the larger speaker but everything else is very much the same. I'd say the BOSE has slightly better stereo seperation and a wider soundstage though.

    Just got the Bose for my retro gaming setup. They handle everything so well and seem to handle PSG and FM sound pretty well. They also sound pretty good for regular music, given the size the Bose put up a good fight against the Edifier speakers.

    I bought these Bose Companion iii's to replace some old Altec Lansing speakers and I like them, for the most part. They are fairly compact and they sound great listening to people speak, like watching youtube. Some types of music sound pretty good but you can't get around the fact that the drivers are tiny and can only move so much air... So, low end bass is pretty sad. They are much much better than any laptop speakers and most desktop speakers out there, but they really need a subwoofer for a fuller sound.
    I have no experience with Edifier, but listening to the comparison on my headphones, I am likely to give them a shot. I was kicking around the idea of buying Pioneer dm40's, but these seem to sound pretty good at a lower price.

  • @GorN_Rebel
    @GorN_Rebel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I bought a Bose Companion 2 for several reasons.
    First, they are more compact.
    Second, they have a great sound, not inferior to Edifier. Yes, the bass is a little worse and less clean on medium, but nonetheless, the bass is resilient and powerful. The solo is also very audible. The volume is more than enough for computer speakers.
    Third, with Bose all the connectors are standard for connecting to a computer, not RCA and there is a headphone jack. But Edifier has none of this. Well, it’s understandable, after all, these are not computer speakers, but bookshelf ones. As a result, you need a lot of adapters and splitters.
    Fourth, design. Again, the design for Edifier is suitable for shelves, but next to a laptop, for example, they look strange. But Bose look perfect for combining with a computer

      Desktop setups, when done correctly, are not that bad. When on desk, try use the foam pads to direct the speakers at Your ears and isolate the desk from speaker vibration ( amzn.to/2uXYd2d ). Even better would be having a small stands ( amzn.to/2t19FZJ ) that will rise the speakers from the desk to ear level (tweeter on the ear level is the height You want) and than foam pads on top to isolate. Here You can see my setup with desk stands I made myself and the foam pads : 2.bp.blogspot.com/-2i9Qrzx-MF4/WBJEmFvRNpI/AAAAAAAABGo/VYj5YoXgdVMIum-G2QF6AnDkYJTEMDL4wCPcB/s1600/DSC08301.JPG If You have the space than definately go for solid floor stands ( amzn.to/2tvlESH ), but also remember to keep the speakers with tweeter at ear level. Setup the speakers in equilateral triangle with Your head, with spreakers turned toward You.

      MX sound are better in mid andhigh range but the bass port of mx sound kills the music and the action movies. The bose c2 series III is very good for gaming, movies but with a very weak bass. Both speakers shows the awfull nature of the dsp and makes the music to continuosly level up and down the accoustic and that makes the music sound very rare or unsatisfying in moments, so mantain it at 70 percent of volume to avoid that. Preferably to go for a portable bluetooth speaker like jbl charge 4 or sony srs xb33 in a few weeks even if the speaker is to centered or have one driver, those beats these pc speakers in sound quality and astisfactory bass.

I remember seeing a Bluetooth/wireless Bose speakers that's 1k ringgit in price. 1k for a shitty wireless speaker. Bose is really overpriced imo. It's the new Beats lol. Even Beats got better recently.

      This is normal. The Edifier R1280T requires $ 100 on Amazon, but it only needs $ 52 in China. Different names are called R1200TII, the same parameters. While the Bose Companion 2 Series III is $ 99 on Amazon and $ 140 in China.

    Same price range, very similar sound. Anyway Edi's have better bass response and more detailed hi's. Excellent comparison, as always. You were so helpful in my decision to by the 1700s and I'm very happy with them. I made a comparison side by side with my Bose 5.1 system in stereo mode paired with a A/V Receiver (yamaha) the Edi's sound as good as the Bose (this with more bass of course) but even more detailed. Thanks a lot from Mexico

  • @domagojoinky8262
    @domagojoinky8262 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Edifier is more pleasing to my ears, maybe cause it has tweeters and that is why it has more open high end and more air. Bose seams louder, but I think that they roll of at 12kHz or slightly under that and have more mid range. There is more lower bass on Edifier, but Bose has more of that boomy low mid range that kills clarity on vocals and guitars.

    Bose did some groundbreaking 901's but after that all went downhill... No proper speakers anymore from Bose after the 901's . And highly overprized. Just like all the Apple-shit in the telecom&pc world...

  • @bluesborn

    The Eds are GREAT sounding speakers for the money. Cons?Bland looking speaker covers (much better looking off) and a rather large footprint for a 'computer speaker' which can easy pass and double as a bookshelf model but take up a little more space on a smaller desktop if that's an issue for you as it is for me. Still for the money the sound is really nice. They tend to push out more bass than I prefer but at lower volumes it adds nicely to the sweet sounding warmth of these babies. If you don't have a lot of dough to throw around definitely check them out.

    I love your works and your videos. But let me say that in this challende, bose has a 2" woofer, 2x3,5 Watts RMS. Edifier is a 2x12 Watts RMS, 2 way, with a 4" woofer. So, it is too easy win the challenge. For the price, sure I would prefeire Edifier but we have to admit that bose made a great "mini speaker". By the way, with that size, Bose Companion works very well.

    • @DSAUDIOreview

      I get Your point (all though the specs for Bose You mentioned are not official nor confirmed, I belive driver used in Bose is more like 2.5 inch), but my requirement for this comparison was the price not the size. I do admit that, given the compact size, Bose is good speaker, but if You are not restricted by space, than there are better speakers on the market, You can buy for the same money. If you need something compact, than Bose is good choice, especially for acoustic music. Cheers!

      Digital Stereophony Personally, I've always been more than a bit wary of the fact that Bose doesn't publish the technical specifications for their powered speakers; even the large, pro-series ones. I realize we buy speakers and amplifiers for their sound, not their specs, but considering how they sound, it's difficult to cut them any slack based on their specs if Bose won't part with the information. To be completely up-front here, I've performed through more than my share of Bose pro-series speakers and listened to many of their consumer systems, and I can't help remembering the old story about The Emperor's New Clothes while doing so.
