When Fawful becomes that disgusting little parasite thing after Bowser defeats him, I can't help but think about how much of a fall from grace he had. From Cackletta's right hand, to basically surviving off scraps in Partners in Time, to eventually being reduced to nothing in Inside Story because of his over ambition and eaten by the very entity he was trying to control and used as a power source before eventually committing suicide. A tragic end for his character
Tbf Partners in Time takes place before he became Cackletta's right hand man So if anything, he started with nothing, became a servant, became a Main Villain, and then was reduced to atoms and eaten by the very thing he went after.
@JosephCeretor Baby Mario and Luigi found him in the sewers under the Mushroom Kingdom in the present and he remarked how they reminded him of adult Mario and Luigi. So while PiT takes place before Superstar Saga, the present day stuff took place after the events of Cackletta
@JosephCeretor he's from the president after superstars saga, not the past before it, and he says the babies look like the "mustaches" that punished him for his villainy to prove this
7:10 from starting as cacklettas right hand man in superstar saga, to a seemingly harmless bean vendor in partners in time, to a mastermind of his own league by resurrecting the dark star…this theme makes it clear that he wants any fink rats who oppose him to suffer from the fury he has built up all this time
@@TheDMan2003 he felt like the brains behind the operation, too. She would've been dead so much earlier if not for fawful, and he probably could've ripped her out of Bowser if needed.
Cackletta's plans would not have even gone that far without Fawful. Heck, she (SPOILERS) could have expired much earlier without Fawful if he hadn't transferred her soul to Bowser.
I agree, Dark Bowser and Dark Star Core is my favorite final boss of all time, and more than for the music! All of the attacks, the counters, the visuals, the atmosphere, the designs of these characters, i hardly focus on boosting attack power and use the Challenge Medal, so the battle lasts a while for me which I enjoy and ofc the KO Punches to finish him off is amazing!
Gotta love how Emile neglects to heal Bowser, even when looking at his stats when compared to the Bros after finding all of the beans. 34:55 And that's what you get for neglecting your health.
There had to be consequences for neglecting Bowser’s Health. Penultimate showdown finished and in terms of the main game, this is it!!! I will gladly rewatch this let’s play over and over. And I’d say “Bring it Down!” It’s “Showtime!” 🔥🙈🤣
The save file itself was not “gimped” by any means, it seems like he took off the challenge medal because he may have still thought it was making the game “harder” but actually just nerfed bowser’s damage by x6.25.
@@Zepeupgimped is probably the wrong word but the idea is right, he’s playing a speedrun file so it’s way weaker than the DS version he used for most of this LP, his characters are way weaker and he’s missing all of bowsers attacks, IMO he should have gone back and picked up one of the minion attacks like Magikoopa Mob or Shy Guy squad and made sure to fight every enemy he could find on the way there and back so he gains some levels, guaranteed higher stats bc the roulette is free in the remake and he gets a stronger move than Goomba storm
@@LeMuDX goomba storm is the strongest brawl attack it the 3ds version, as long as the challenge medal is equipped since it receives a x6.25 increase in power. Chuggaa had everything he needed to beat dark fawful in 3-4 turns, he just took off the gear needed to do so. Sure he would have died in 1 hit to some of the attacks, but there was no need to grind or go get anything in order to win the fight more easily.
@@Zepeup ok I can understand goomba storm being the strongest brawl attack but how is it only the strongest if the challenge medal is equipped? I can’t imagine how it would be stronger than Broggy bonker, I assume the challenge medal makes all attacks stronger by the same amount, and goomba storm doesn’t have the most hits so it’s not like it has more lucky chances, do you mean it’s the strongest in terms of damage per brawl points? If so then sure that’s not really a good way to judge the strongest attack considering that 3DS speedrun file had Bowser with a worse speed stat so Dark Fawful was double attacking all over the place
Game Director: So, we're going to make the bosses in this remake have the Fury condition when they drop below a certain health, giving them a feel of desperation... The guy who writes Fawful's dialog: *HE HAS FURY!!!*
Can I just say the fact that he’s gonna be able to get the main story done before his trip means that he’s gotten two let’s plays main story’s done without a single break back to back. This is legendary
If there’s one thing I can give to the 3ds remake, its that they made Peach’s castle more atmospheric. The original made the castle look like the aftermath of a big battle, but in the remake, it looks like the whole castle is slowly being consumed by darkness and turning into this twisted perversion of what was once a pretty and vibrant home…
One thing I absolutely love is that in Super Star Saga’s side story, Bowser’s Minions, it was revealed that Fawful used the Mechawfuls on Beanbean Castle Town when the guards were looking for Prince Peasley. He had them already built since long before Cackletta probably enacted her plan. THAT’S how long Fawful was planning on overthrowing her. The first three M and L games did such a good job at building Fawful’s story of becoming a big time villain. From being an underling, to going into hiding, to then nearly plunging the world into darkness. Though Partners in Time is considered to be one of the weaker games in the series, I did appreciate that it had Fawful at his weakest. It was a good lead up into his strike back as a dangerous villain.
7:11 I've seen some people argue over A Fateful Clash, but I personally liked the song. It's a Dark Reprise of Fawful and Cackletta, it symbolizes how far he has descended into madness compared to his _Superstar Saga_ self. He's no longer some quirky apprentice of Cackletta that wished to overthrow/surpass her, he is a total maniac corrupted by the Dark Star, and he has become one of the world's greatest threats, probably only beaten by Elder Princess Shroob, and the only thing standing between him and his plans succeeding is Bowser and the Bros.
Probably the only Mario villain to be above him in terms of threat level would be Dimentio, if only because the *entirety of existence itself* was at stake in that story, instead of just the Mushroom Kingdom.
It truly fits the end of Bowser's Inside Story and Fawful's character arc, as he has fully descended into darkness. Fawful is a Beanish in his own right, instead of the lackey of Cackletta/Bowletta. It merely took him longer than he would have liked to reach that apex.
Without getting too specific to avoid spoilers, I'd argue the final boss of Brothership probably surpasses Fawful/Dark Bowser in threat level, considering not just what they do in-game, but also what they've already successfully done in the past, prior to the game's events.
Since we’re finally getting to punch out every tooth in Fawful’s omnipresent smile: I’m genuinely amazed by Emile’s voice acting for Fawful throughout this LP. It’s funny, energetic, and at times even menacing and deranged. I really can’t imagine a better performance for him, and he really brought him to life. EDIT: And on a semi-unrelated note, Emile, your having trouble with 3DS Fawful may have something to do with the fact that this Bowser’s _11 levels below him._
@@axlexe8639 It was not a remake thing, trust me. I was unable to inhale that hat and had to resort to hammering it with specials over and over. I only managed to beat the game recently when learning the X&Y vacuum technique.
Can I just say, it's pretty cool to fight Fawful in the same Conference Hall where the game started and where the Inside Story... story started as well. The destroyed table in the background is even mirrored instead of somehow being on Bowser's side of the screen, since BOWSER is in the SAME position he's in at the start of the game, but the scene now has him in a "more heroic" light compared to Dark Fawful. Just something I noticed.
Something I love about the story is how the stakes genuinely feel like they progressively get higher. That isn't something I really feel when it comes to the other games. And then Brothership came and managed to do it again.
@@MikeL-cb4wc Probably a mouse or a raccoon. Something sufficiently gremlinoid for this favagoblin. Also, speaking of "I HAVE FURRY", Fawful probably would keep a bunch of fuzzy forest critters trapped like Doctor Robotnik. Hell, he already did that to Bowser's minions, and even if he didn't, he has so many machines at his beck and call that he might as well have been Robotnik. Honestly, it kinda makes me wish that there were more Sonic RPGs on the DS. The only one I can think of is Dark Brotherhood, which believe it or nor was a BIOWARE game.
There’s something really clever i find about the unification between Dark Fawful and Dark Bowser. You have the artefact of power represented by Dark Bowser while Dark Fawful represents an independent controller Vessel (Bowser & Dark Bowser) and Manipulator (Mario & Luigi and Dark Fawful) it’s an exact parallel for how this unlikely trio came to be in this adventure.
i can really tell you’ve been having fun with voicing all the characters, bowser and fawful especially. i’ve been having a great time watching it and you can just Hear the smile in your voice with some of these deliveries. absolutely a blast
Of course now Emile uses the retry clock towards the end, it’s totally karma but seriously though. Despite saying this multiple times, this definitely my favorite let’s play that Emile has done. And can we just add the fact that the combination of the struggle of this fight and the neglecting of Bowser’s health via zoom in is immensely satisfying hilarious. Not saying its my number one because there are many moments that I find it funnier but what an explosive and fiery conclusion to 2024. And not going to spoil for those who have yet to see it but given Bowser’s dislike of Mario, I think I know what his response is and in typical Bowser fashion, lol!!! 🙈🤡🤣
17:08 Also Popple, Popple is a rare example of a character getting their own unique boss music. Yes they oddly used Popple’s theme for Fawful in the original, but they fixed it in the remake to have Fawful use Cackletta’s theme.
33:52 I NEVER KNEW THERE WAS A WAY TO GET DOWN! I always thought you were stuck there after launching up. Now I gotta replay the game with this in mind.
Yea I thought so too when I tried to backtrack on my save file last year. I tried again this year and figured there’d be a way and yea, always check your mini-maps.
That makes me so mad. I had to replay and keep a save behind just to do the final boss fight for fun. I blame myself for looking for a portal instead of a dang door
I am all here for Emile finally being given an actual challenge at a boss fight finally- and the fact all it took was a speedrunning-based save file is hilarious. Happy that the attack of him swinging atop the ceiling lamp was shown tho, as I had noticed it was taken out of the 3DS version for a flying pattern. It's SO unhinged to watch Fawful want to be Spiderman so bad in the original. One thing I DO wish that was shown in the OG fight tho- was how NASTY the Dark Orb Portals Attack originally was- the speed is FAR faster & instant than the 3DS version, so performing the counter was SO HARD as a kid, including the goomba counter as well.
Imagine if he just randomly came back in the next Mario game like Palpatine in Star Wars Episode 9. Starlow: Mario! Luigi! Somehow Fawful returned! Fawful: I HAVE CHORTLES! The dark side of stars is a delicious path to many abilities called unnatural by plebeians of stupidity like you!
I don't hate the remake but Fawful's Minion does a stellar job of summarizing all its flaws (e.g., slower gameplay for both the player & the game) and how the OG reigns supreme. (It was also the one that did not need a remake)
Dark Fawful having the incredible Cackletta battle theme to match the regular Cackletta theme of Peach’s Castle was an incredible touch. Not going to lie, I do really like how the castle is even MORE warped and turned mechanical by his various gizmos just to make it a shell of what we know it as is so cool. The emperor has risen from the henchman across the entire trilogy. Now that the Dark Star is complete with Dark Bowser and we see the true might of the beast, Fawful has been lost to the power, which I’m sure he’s fine with at this point because he’s lost his desire. And the tower behind the throne is the alter where the Dark Star would put an end to everything as all fall to its whim. Fawful planned to do it himself, but the Dark Star doing it itself with no host is even worse. It’s the end of the world.
i love the dark fawful battle theme so much really just shows how distorted he is at this point with the theme being a darker slower version of the classic cackletta theme
I love that they gave fawful a slower more menacing remix of cackletta’s battle theme. Great callback to superstar saga. but wow that fight was hard even when it was on easy mode the whole time
@@zacharylandrum4789 It very much does, especially the type of fight Fawful's is here. It was specifically crafted for Fawful and this fight ofc it wouldn't fit for a boss anywhere else. Stop acting like boss themes have to be upbeat and fast paced to fit bosses, this theme fits perfectly.
At the same time it also adds a sense of menace especially if you've played these games since the beginning. He started as just Cackletta's lackey and now he's become the biggest threat not just to the kingdom but to the entire world. Heck something I've noticed is that at no point does Fawful ever mention Cackletta in either partners in time or bowser's inside story. It's like she never mattered to him at all and the theme you hear here is an embodiment of how he's essentially outgrown her having menace that she wish she had.
@@nightmarearcade2663 I mean can you blame him, did Fawful ever matter to Cackletta? Like he said in Superstar Saga he's just her toadie, the one doing most of the work while she took the fruits of his labor. Other than Fawful rescuing her spirit I don't think there's a single instance Cackletta really cared about him that much. If anything he's actually done her proud, he's become just like her.
If anything he's surpassed her. After all unlike Cackletta practically everything has gone according to his plan no fake voices or meddlesome mustaches to constantly pester him. He's always a step ahead and even though he was beaten and absorbed into the dark star it's very clear that he's still the mastermind even now.
It CANT be over so soon. Like… it feels like not too long ago this series started. With all of the bad things about the remake, I still like it, especially how they dealt with the final area. Peach’s Castle looking way different, the Dark Star AND Dark Fawful having their own battle themes and even the effects when the Dark Power finally awakens fully. Can’t wait for the finale tomorrow, and OH BOY I’m excited! Your first full LP back after your long break and my god it was the best choice. I even played along on the remake and yeah… a lot of valid points.
Hey Chugga! Just wanted to say I've loved this playthrough and it's really cool to see you playing through one of my favorite games of all time on my birthday! Thanks for this playthrough and I can't wait to see what playthroughs you have in store in the future!
I genuinely love Fawful. Seeing home go from this weak minion at rock bottom to a major threat capable of taking over Bowser’s castle and potentially the mushroom kingdom as well with the power of the dark star was incredibly cool to see. Just like the dark start itself, the atmosphere during Dark Fawful’s fight is amazing and the new boss theme they gave him made him even more menacing. He deserves the recognition for being as good as he is
I think we all deep down know why Bowser didn't get a Dark Bowser skin in Smash. It's the same reason Luigi didn't get a Mr. L skin, or Peach didn't get a Shadow Queen skin. The Mario RPGs are just facing that uphill of a battle when it comes to getting picked for references like that. Though, Piranha Plant does have a move that uses TTYD's Putrid Piranha design, so hopefully by the next Smash Bros these alts will be actually on the table.
I actually didn’t know that you could leave the top part of Peach’s castle. I thought for all this time that you were soft lock up there. That’s actually really cool. I learned a few more spots that I didn’t know existed in this game.
Dude you went to TOWN on the voice acting this episode!! You clearly had such a great time, leaning all in on the characterization of Fawful and the effects for Dark Bowser, it was so dang fun!
8:33 I need to correct this. It’s a more sinister version of his own theme. You see he was mistakenly given the popple battle theme in the original gba release though it was fixed in Japan. The remake also fixing it. Thus he shares the battle theme with Cackletta. Just a small thing I want to share as people always say it remixes cacklettas theme when really it’s his theme that’s being remixed
33:50 I just want to point out that between when I got to this point and a few weeks ago (so roughly 13-14 years), I had no idea there was an exit for this tower, let alone TWO exits. I thought Bowser had been locked in there permanently because I couldn't figure out how to get him back through the hole and thought I was stuck venturing the world with the Bros
Interestingly enough, in the Japanese version of Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, Fawful shares the same battle theme as Cackletta. The song is even called Cackletta & fawful, yet in the English verson, they gave fawful Popple's theme.
21:37-21:48 Reminds me of a Marcus Guns vending machine quote in Borderlands 3: "I've got bullets with your name on them. Oh, wait, that came out wrong!"
There is apparently a third variant of Dark Fawful's blaster attack that I bet a lot of people haven't seen, he only shoots three stars in that one but they rotate much quicker than any of the other variants. I discovered this when fighting Dark Fawful with the Challenge Medal on, and yeah, you bet your sweet bippy I chewed through a couple of Retry Clocks because of that infamous orb attack
from what I've seen and played, there's around 6 variants of the blaster attack. the first 2 are the simpler ones. 1 of a full line of stars, or a 2 line segment w/one segment having the red Star. the 3rd's what you've described, via 3 stars and having to memorize the red one. its actually one of the first Dark Fawful uses at half hp to mix things up in DS BIS the 4th's like the 1st, a full line of Stars but longer, and a shorter gap in-between the red Star the 5th's like the 2nd, but there's 3 separated line segments instead of 2. the last, which's really rare, but in low-level is guaranteed to happen at least once. while he's low hp, Dark Fawful will shoot the Stars similar to the full line formation, but you will audibly hear this "delayed" shot, an intentional gap in the last shot which makes the Red Star harder to punch as its right next to that delayed shot. that last one's the hardest to avoid cuz you have to know the timing of Bowser's duck when he rises back up to avoid that one delayed star and punch the red one immediately after
33:52 Wait, what?? I've played through this game at least 3 times, and this is the first I'm finding out that you can leave the final platform from the sides. I always thought "oh i've hit the point of no return, classic RPG moment, too bad i can't go back to the airway and grind levels"
31:29 that edit threw me off so hard for a sec🤣 and to answer your questioning of how is Dark Bowser not a costume in Smash, how many costumes have been something from a spin-off series/game? how many CHARACTERS have been from a spin-off series/game? they just dont really do that in Smash. the real question is, why are there so many obvious costumes that ARE main series that dont get put in Smash?
I know next to nothing of Dream Team and Paper Jam, and I know Bowser has even been possessed in the past games, but I think this is one of the creepiest moments in any Mario game, a corrupted Fawful after being beaten ends up turning into this grotesque Eldritch thing (which is officially known as Dark Fawful bug) still trying to complete his goal (which is speculated to be to avenge Cackletta, or just killing the Bros and now Bowser too), but ends up being absorbed by the original source of the power and is fueling it, what a horrible thing to happen to anyone, you can even tell that he has lost his sanity long ago by the way he speaks
I think it was a missed opportunity to give bowser a piece of equipment (either in the OG or remake) that made it easier to get into fury or otherwise interacted with the mechanic in some way. Like now I’m picturing a piece of gear that saves you from death once during a fight, then puts you into fury with a Pow increase to boot.
I feel like it should be stated just how good the interior of the Fawfulized castle looks in the remake. That purple and silver color scheme looks downright gorgeous.
Dark Fawful is effectively a dark reprise of Fawful&Cackletta from Superstar Saga. And it fits so well. We're really dealing with a world-ending threat, now the Dark Star has copied Bowser, but is not at full power due to Fawful taking half of it, corrupting him even further.
I am sort of excited to hear you dub over Dark Bowsers dialogue for the next part as someone who sort of loved the Showtime! Animation video that was an adaption of that pre-final fight cutscene.
Just like with the Dark Star, the remake did the fight against Dark Fawful far better justice, thanks to giving him a unique, sinister, and foreboding battle theme. It's even more fitting that it's a darker reprise of Cackletta's boss battle theme (which Fawful also had in the remake, when he originally had Popple's boss battle theme, oddly enough), since, despite never being mentioned since Superstar Saga, Fawful did start off as just a minion for Cackletta, albeit one who realized he had loftier ambitions, which he took full advantage of in this game. After being bothered and beleaguered by the chortling little gremlin for the whole game, Bowser can finally fight Fawful face to face.
So, right now, in school, im learning about cells. And there's a thing in DNA called hemoglobin, which i think is where they got the idea for the emoglobin. Also, hemoglobin just takes oxygen to your blood.
*Top of Peach's Castle* Goomther: Wow, we're really high up. Shawn: All of this in pursuit of a fake version of Bowser. Kathie: We have no choice, though. We need to stop that monster and rescue the princess. Bonnie: Can I just say how weird that sounds. 'Rescuing' the princess? Our job is supposed to be kidnapping her. Marni: Maybe we can consider it, kidnapping someone who's already been kidnapped by someone. Bowser: Whatever you call it, there's one thing that's certain. We're going to beat that ugly mug of an imposter and get Peach back! Gah, Fawful really has ruined everything around here! First, my castle, then my minions, followed by that Dark Star, and now this bozo! WORST DAY EVER! Goomther: Good news is, it's almost over. He's got nowhere left to run. Let's finish this, GOO-RAH! Shawn: That Fawful guy got us into this mess, now it's up to us to undo it. SHOO-RAH! Kathie: My liege, whatever happens out there, we've got your back. KOO-RAH! Bonnie: This kingdom's only big enough for one king of the Koopas, and that's you, Lord Bowser. BOOM-RAH! Marni: His power is no match against our combined strength and magic. We will prevail, KOO-RAH! Broggy: BROOF! ROOF! ROOF! Bowser: That's what I like to hear! Now, *cracks knuckles* follow me. ... It's SHOWTIME! Bowser's Minions: FOR KING BOWSER! Starlow's Log Day 47: This is it, the final battle. After Bowser defeated Fawful in the conference room, he escaped and was inhaled by Dark Bowser. Now, the Dark Star is at its full power once more. We cannot let this thing ravage the Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser, Mario, and Luigi are our last hope at saving us all. Star Sprites, please watch over us during this battle, and pray that I get to share this story to you all when this is over. Star Spirit Starlow signing off. Starlow: No turning back now. Mario, Luigi, let's end this, here and now. Mario: Let'sa go! Luigi: Okie-dokie!
News ticker 46 Jason: Alrighty! We everyone, this is the final fight between Bowser and a giant monster! This time, the opponent is PEACH'S CASTLE! Yes, the first battle was a castle and this possible final fight is another Castle! Looks like he went to another Castle after all. Oooh! The blackholes have closed in. I have some minions here to give their regards! Goomther: If this is a dream, I don't want it to end. We are almost at the end of a journey. Kathie: The lord is doing magnificently! Marni: I'm just glad I could help. Jason: OH! HERE'S THE FINISHER! *cinamatic from the remake plays* Jason: FROM ORBIT AND BACK! EAT %#$@ FAWFUL! Billy: Jason, no swearing! Though I do agree. Jason: And with that. I'll see you next time with footage of the finale. *beep* Jason: Bowser... sir. Do you mind if I come along to film your fight with Dark Bowser? Bowser: Hm... should I let other know? OF COURSE! Then people will see how AWESOME the koopa troop is. Come along! Jason: Whew. It's been fun, Billy. Simce the first day. Billy: Yeah. Meanwhile... Gooby: Lord Junior, all missing troops have been reunited. We are ready to siege the throne room. Bast: I hope Dave's okay... Sally: Relax. Bob-ombs can always be replaced. Everyone: *facepalm* Seriously? Kapsci: Matter aside, we're really doing this. The captains are out due to tiredness. ARE YOU ALL READY!? Army behind them: YEAH!!!! *CHEER* Marx: I have goosebumps on my goosebumps. Gooby: Marx? Marx: Yeah? Gooby: It's been fun. Marx: Yeah. Bowser Jr.: Enough ramble. LET'S FIGHT! Everyone: *YEAH!!!*
I love Fawful as a villain and his fight is great too but oh boy do I hate that stupid DARK ORB ATTACK!!! I can't remember how difficult the attack was in the original game but in the remake I always die to that attack every time I play through the game. Like if you spend too much time trying to find an opening for the goomba, you end up wasting your time and getting barraged and if you are too trigger happy, you get barraged. It also does so much damage.
in the og DS BIS I can confirm Dark Fawful's orb attack's not too difficult to avoid as it has a clear timing to it that makes it pretty simplish to avoid, so its deff not that bad in the original. I can say its deff tricky at first, but it gets easier to deal with in that version on repeated fights. I'm deff unsure about how the remake's version is timing-wise the Star ray attack's deff a bit harder as he has 6 diff variants, and the one where you'll audibly hear an intentional gap in the last shot he does, is one of the trickiest and hardest to avoid out of all of the formations. however, you're actually kinda unlikely to see that rare formation, as you'd prob need to low-level the game or intentionally stall to see that one
i must say, there are some visual changes in the remake that make things look wrong. some star-shaped attacks became sparky-looking, energy orbs looking like balls of gas, and worst of all is Dark Bowser's incomplete form. it actually looks incomplete in the original, he's a hazy purple ghost without legs, and getting full form back, finally gains his literal true colors and his legs. the remake he's just a legless, slightly warbley, version of himself, which looks like they werent done with that sprite work but had to call it there.
I was wondering, it was mentioned before that increasing your stats through beans lowers what you can get in the bonus wheel. So, by that logic, wouldn't it be better to use them at the end when you only level up a couple more times rather than when you get them?
I can't believe we're almost at the end already...it feels like just a week ago I was watching and enjoying that superb mashup trailer of all your previous LP's! You've come a long way, Chuggaa!
Giving Fawful a slowed down theme of cakletta’s theme from the remakes and OG truly makes the story shiny at just how terrifying the guy had become. From silly sidekick to the biggest threat the Mushroom Kingdom will likely ever face. What a glow up
From being the very first boss and a simple servant in the first Mario and Luigi game to becoming the main villain and one of the final bosses of the Mario and Luigi series. Fawful sure went through a journey in this series and might possibly be my favorite villain in entire Mario series.
I'm surprised Cackletta isn't brought up at all in this game, but I'm so happy they did a reprise of her boss theme from Superstar Saga in the remake. Also him calling us Fink-rats was a nice call back to the very first fight we had with him.
I am so proud of Fawful's rise from Toady to Villain, finally stepping up for himself and not the influence of a superior. We may never see him again after this game...

(I scored this one solely on time, and used the same 2-minute benchmark as the first Chest Station visit because I'm pretty sure the devs intended for this minigame to last longer than it did for Chuggaa, who beat it in 39.88 seconds. I started time when the arena loaded in and stopped it the moment Bowser left the top of the screen in the interlude chasm. And, like, for real, this should be the last giant chunk of points in the game until the bonus videos.) *Footnotes* 10:27 Each lit Goomba does 10 damage, so that was 18 Goombas. And in case someone brings up Lucky Hits - there were none, this landed Excellent. 11:28 Like in the Dark Star fight, I'll maintain consistency with the DS version by counting Excellent Super Bouncers as eight hits even though it's actually five. Tell you what - let's pretend the last hit is worth four hits' worth of points in the 3DS version. 15:18 Based on the damage, I'll just say this is 20 Goombas. 17:48 20 Goombas again. Same with 18:38 20:24 ...oh, dear. A Game Over. Now, in the DS version, you can use a Retry Clock to essentially get another shot at the battle with full HP and SP, and there, I would keep the score the same as it was when you died. If you don't use one (or don't have any), you would have to reload a previous save, which would compel me to reset the score to what it was at that save. Since Chuggaa chooses Retry here, and because I don't want to give myself a headache, I'll act as though he used a Retry Clock here and will still count all the points Chuggaa got on his first attempt. 21:08 I can see that the headgear is gone, so I'll count that. I'll also count an extra inhalable since the results screen shows the Bros. getting EXP. 21:38 Fawful actually totally could've done that like he did with so many other enemies, but he didn't. 28:20 We don't ever see the Bros.' HP, so I'll just use the numbers we last saw in the first attempt. Mario had 140 HP, and Luigi had 160. 34:52 I knew this was going to be a funny moment before I even saw it. *This Episode's Score:* 145,120 pts. *Total Score So Far:* 3,617,940 pts.
This is one thing I love about Fawful: even if he started off as Cackletta's minion and later becomes a bean shop owner, he becomes far more successful than his former master as the main villain
fun little fact, if you do what chugga managed to do and get that shortcut before you would even get to outside to the final giant battle, you can do a fun little glitch. If you manage to go into the room where you see Fawful looking for the dark star before heading into the meeting room with the shortcut room the cutscene just skips itself with the camera going over to fawful going into the room with the sound effects playing in rapid sucession as bowser looks up and to the right instead of fully to the right. Completely harmless and interesting to see.
This is it, the Prelude to the end of the Best Adventure ever. Also I can’t wait for definitely see Peach’s Castle in BiS having a similar vibe as the Stone Tower Temple from Majora’s Mask.
So, one thing about the Dark Star I love, is the implication that it *consumes evil* instead of aiding it. This is why Fawful used his machines to consume the dark star's power. As soon as the Dark Star awoke, it began to consume Bowser. If the Mario Bros didn't go after it, it may have consumed all of Bowser from the inside instead of mearly copying it. This also could be due to Fawful's meddling... As the Dark Star didn't have the energy to consume Bowser fully in general. But now its whole, having consumed the evil that stole its power in the first place. It has all the power it needs to destroy everything. The final battle is approaching, and only then can we see who will come out on top.
7:02 The only time in BiS Fawful calls anyone Fink-Rat, contrast to the first game where he hands that insult out like candy.
I like how it shows he is now losing the last ounce of sanity he has left
it goes to show that the facade he built for his brainwashed subordinates is cracking away
He got more creative with his insults over time. He had so long to think about his revenge, why not some insults?
He had to dust off that old gem
I thought he says it at the beginning for some reason

Starlow: “This is the absolute worst case scenario!”
Also Starlow: 🙂
When Fawful becomes that disgusting little parasite thing after Bowser defeats him, I can't help but think about how much of a fall from grace he had. From Cackletta's right hand, to basically surviving off scraps in Partners in Time, to eventually being reduced to nothing in Inside Story because of his over ambition and eaten by the very entity he was trying to control and used as a power source before eventually committing suicide. A tragic end for his character
Tbf Partners in Time takes place before he became Cackletta's right hand man
So if anything, he started with nothing, became a servant, became a Main Villain, and then was reduced to atoms and eaten by the very thing he went after.
@JosephCeretor Baby Mario and Luigi found him in the sewers under the Mushroom Kingdom in the present and he remarked how they reminded him of adult Mario and Luigi.
So while PiT takes place before Superstar Saga, the present day stuff took place after the events of Cackletta
@Doctor_Pickney I misremembered PiT, that's my bad.
@JosephCeretor he's from the president after superstars saga, not the past before it, and he says the babies look like the "mustaches" that punished him for his villainy to prove this
@@JosephCeretor Lol all good 👍👍
7:10 from starting as cacklettas right hand man in superstar saga, to a seemingly harmless bean vendor in partners in time, to a mastermind of his own league by resurrecting the dark star…this theme makes it clear that he wants any fink rats who oppose him to suffer from the fury he has built up all this time
I think in the French translations, it’s hinted that Fawful had plans to betray Cackletta.
@@TheDMan2003It's shown in the Superstar Saga remake he was.
He has fury after all
@@TheDMan2003 he felt like the brains behind the operation, too. She would've been dead so much earlier if not for fawful, and he probably could've ripped her out of Bowser if needed.
Cackletta's plans would not have even gone that far without Fawful. Heck, she (SPOILERS)
could have expired much earlier without Fawful if he hadn't transferred her soul to Bowser.
Neat touch: Bowser is standing exactly where he was standing in the tutorial battle of this game (when he was facing Mario).
It's like poetry, it rhymes.
The small zoom in on the tiny 40 HP is hilarious
One of the greatest final bosses in any game ever coming up next. People talk up the music, and rightfully so, but the entire fight is just perfect.
“Listen up, you’re saying this kingdom will vanish? NOT TODAY! THIS KINGDOM IS ALL MINE! SO YOU VANISH!!”
Well, the HP and Defense stats are basically irrelevant if you can manage to counterattack everything perfectly… which Emile has proven he cannot.

I mean, if it wasn’t Chekov’s 40HP then I would’ve been very disappointed.
Chuggaa sacrificed his happiness, using a gimped save file, for the sake of a thematically fitting song. That's dedication right there!
The save file itself was not “gimped” by any means, it seems like he took off the challenge medal because he may have still thought it was making the game “harder” but actually just nerfed bowser’s damage by x6.25.
@@Zepeup It's gimped because he's underleveled and has no attacks lmao.
Chugga was foreshadowing and trash talking retry clocks and he actually needed it 😂😂😂😅.
Was there an epic zoom in on his Health total at the beginning of the video?
@ProjectNaturePrds Yep giving us a foreshadowing 😂.
Game Director: So, we're going to make the bosses in this remake have the Fury condition when they drop below a certain health, giving them a feel of desperation...

@@deleetiusproductions3497I think we've got at least two more episodes to go, from what I remember
@@saladplainzone Well, I guess there is the postgame. But in terms of the main story, there's only one more episode to go.
I love in this game how much they’ve shown Bowser’s minions love and devotion to him. They will literally take a magic bullet for him.
Maybe they held off on that originally because they had just done it in the last game
Frankly I don't like the "Fawful ALWAYS had bigger plans than Cackletta" angle that has been taken. It takes away the originally portrayed growth.
@@skaithespirit1184Yeah, I limited comparisons to just M&L, but I do agree that Dimentio EASILY tops the list
I don't mind that it's a remix of Cackletta's theme. I just don't like the track's tempo. Its too slow and boring, dragging the battle down for me.
29:17 “Bowser, DO NOT throw stones!”
I love this quote!
Since we’re finally getting to punch out every tooth in Fawful’s omnipresent smile:
I’m genuinely amazed by Emile’s voice acting for Fawful throughout this LP.
His attacks are slightly different compared to the remake
I think he might play the original then the remake cus the remake has new music as welll I think
His bowser voice is so fitting, and the Toad voice is as terrifying as it should be
Nvm I’m dumb it’s the same for the remake but there is new music
Ngl, Emile would be an amazing VA.
Emile not only fails to realize you can choose what to upgrade at each level, he also fails to realize he is low on HP
Not to mention fail to notice that Bowser could attack the headgear separately instead of waiting to inhale it to speed up the boss fight.
@@darkstorm2579Don't forget he did the entire Jump Helmet thing without realising Mario's drop shadow was a thing
@@darkstorm2579Was that added in the remake though? Because I don't remember being able to target it with Bowser in the original...
"I HAVE FURRY!"
"Uh, don't you mean Fury?"
"FAWFUL SAID WHAT FAWFUL MENT!"
Thank you, that was your stupid joke of the night.
Just to close the early "It is I who nuts to that!"
What would Fawful's fursona be, out of curiosity?
I once made a painting of Fawful of him saying that on accident because I'm occasionally bad at spelling.

Oh that zoom to Bowser's health at the beginning. This is gonna be great later!
34:50
*And it was.*
There’s something really clever i find about the unification between Dark Fawful and Dark Bowser.
You have the artefact of power represented by Dark Bowser while Dark Fawful represents an independent controller
Vessel (Bowser & Dark Bowser) and Manipulator (Mario & Luigi and Dark Fawful) it’s an exact parallel for how this unlikely trio came to be in this adventure.
Someone has been watching Fawful's Minion, I can tell.
i can really tell you’ve been having fun with voicing all the characters, bowser and fawful especially. i’ve been having a great time watching it and you can just Hear the smile in your voice with some of these deliveries. absolutely a blast
The zoom in at Bowsers low health at the beginning caused me genuine dread. I was like "Emile, please heal, Emile PLEASE!" XD
34:47 oh that’s 100% going to be an famous chugga clip omfg
17:08 Also Popple, Popple is a rare example of a character getting their own unique boss music. Yes they oddly used Popple’s theme for Fawful in the original, but they fixed it in the remake to have Fawful use Cackletta’s theme.
20:21 Chugga learns why spamming punch is not the best strategy to counter
33:52 I NEVER KNEW THERE WAS A WAY TO GET DOWN! I always thought you were stuck there after launching up. Now I gotta replay the game with this in mind.
Yea I thought so too when I tried to backtrack on my save file last year. I tried again this year and figured there’d be a way and yea, always check your mini-maps.
WAIT, THERE IS?! I thought that was a point of no return on my first playthrough!
Yeah, there are even post-game ranks you can get
That makes me so mad. I had to replay and keep a save behind just to do the final boss fight for fun.
I blame myself for looking for a portal instead of a dang door
Do you people just not walk around
Ohhh I was wondering why it wasn’t shown!
100% believe that they should’ve kept Fawful around in the mainline games as Bowser’s own “Bowser.” They contrast each other so well.
Disagree. He served his purpose.
28:50 this was… an excellently done scream.
I don't hate the remake but Fawful's Minion does a stellar job of summarizing all its flaws (e.g., slower gameplay for both the player & the game) and how the OG reigns supreme.
(It was also the one that did not need a remake)
Same here, the remake has a lot of crao stacked against it that makes one think "Why?"
@@That_One_Gaming_Guy Yup.
Can't help but agree.
Great callback to superstar saga. but wow that fight was hard even when it was on easy mode the whole time
It is a nice callback, but the melody feels a bit too slow to be a boss theme.
He's always a step ahead and even though he was beaten and absorbed into the dark star it's very clear that he's still the mastermind even now.
can we also give a moment to aknowledge emiles astounding voice acting? trulu underrated talent of his. :)
Yes! 😊
I'm so excited for the final battle, it was such a memorable experience as a kid and I'm excited to see it through Chugga's playthrough
I love that Dark Fawful’s theme in the remake has motifs of Fawful and Cackletta’s theme in superstar saga.

Smooth and satisfying transition back to the original.
Yeah, too me a half second to even realize (namely until he got the first block)
Like how these last few episodes have just been titled after the big boss fight happeninngin each one. It fits.
Considering how the remainder of the episodes that we'll see will each have a boss fight in them, it definitely makes sense.
Good observation.
I guess you could say he's taking a Bow, sir.
I can't have been the Only one Screaming "HEAL BOWSER!!!" right as he entered the battle with Dark Fawful in the DS version XD
I actually didn’t know that you could leave the top part of Peach’s castle. I thought for all this time that you were soft lock up there. That’s actually really cool. I learned a few more spots that I didn’t know existed in this game.
Glad you showed both unique boss themes! Fawful having a distorted dark version of Cackletta’s theme is so fitting!
Dude you went to TOWN on the voice acting this episode!! You clearly had such a great time, leaning all in on the characterization of Fawful and the effects for Dark Bowser, it was so dang fun!
Goombas with Fawful's face on them? Call them Fawfoombas. It would just be a Goomba with green face paint and swirly glasses.😂
Nothing says "That's Emile" like demonstrating the Retry Clock in the next to last episode of an LP because of an oversight.
31:00 A nice detail is the top of the pillars resemble Fawful's contraption he fought Mario and Luigi from in Superstar Saga
33:01 Agreed, thats one of the biggest missed opportunities. Both fangames Smash Flash 2 and Smash Crusade have this costume
I believe they fixed that in the sss remake.
the english version came out first actually. there's a lot of balance changes they made in the japanese version that got carried over to the remake.
21:37-21:48 Reminds me of a Marcus Guns vending machine quote in Borderlands 3: "I've got bullets with your name on them. Oh, wait, that came out wrong!"
0:07 Masterful foreshadowing.
1 of a full line of stars, or a 2 line segment w/one segment having the red Star.
the 3rd's what you've described, via 3 stars and having to memorize the red one.
its actually one of the first Dark Fawful uses at half hp to mix things up in DS BIS
the 4th's like the 1st, a full line of Stars but longer, and a shorter gap in-between the red Star
the 5th's like the 2nd, but there's 3 separated line segments instead of 2.
the last, which's really rare, but in low-level is guaranteed to happen at least once.
while he's low hp, Dark Fawful will shoot the Stars similar to the full line formation,
but you will audibly hear this "delayed" shot, an intentional gap in the last shot which makes the Red Star harder to punch as its right next to that delayed shot.
that last one's the hardest to avoid cuz you have to know the timing of Bowser's duck when he rises back up to avoid that one delayed star and punch the red one immediately after
HE HAS DARKNESS!
And he has FURY!
And chortles!
And Beef
Keyblade!
@ Kingdom Hearts reference? Real original.
33:52 Wait, what??
I've played through this game at least 3 times, and this is the first I'm finding out that you can leave the final platform from the sides. I always thought "oh i've hit the point of no return, classic RPG moment, too bad i can't go back to the airway and grind levels"
31:29 that edit threw me off so hard for a sec🤣
and to answer your questioning of how is Dark Bowser not a costume in Smash,
how many costumes have been something from a spin-off series/game?
how many CHARACTERS have been from a spin-off series/game?
they just dont really do that in Smash.
the real question is, why are there so many obvious costumes that ARE main
series that dont get put in Smash?
Love the distorted & menacing theme of Cackletta for Fawful in the 3DS Remake. So Good for the ears, Man. Huge respect for showing this!
I still remember when I did a low level run and was fighting Blizzard Midbus at Level 7. Worst boss fight ever. This reminds me of that lol
31:31 That was quite the smooth transition back to the DS version of the game. Well done.
It’s not the same without Fawful immediately blindsiding you with his “*aweedadoo-aweedadoo-aweedadoo-AHAHAHAHAHA!*” attack
31:29 That transition was goated
Can't believe we're already here towards the end. This has been such a great LP!!
*Top of Peach's Castle*
Goomther: Wow, we're really high up.

Jason: Alrighty!
*cinamatic from the remake plays*
Jason: FROM ORBIT AND BACK! EAT %#$@ FAWFUL!
Billy: Jason, no swearing! Though I do agree.
Jason: And with that. I'll see you next time with footage of the finale.
*beep*
Jason: Bowser...
*CHEER*
Marx: I have goosebumps on my goosebumps.
Gooby: Marx?
Marx: Yeah?
Gooby: It's been fun.
Marx: Yeah.
Bowser Jr.: Enough ramble. LET'S FIGHT!
Everyone: *YEAH!!!*
Am I having a Mandela effect or did you change Bonnie’s chant?
@@philkirshenbaum8867 I changed it to BOOM-RAH since BOO-RAH fits more with the Boos than the Bob-ombs.

I'm deff unsure about how the remake's version is timing-wise
the Star ray attack's deff a bit harder as he has 6 diff variants, and the one where you'll audibly hear an intentional gap in the last shot he does, is one of the trickiest and hardest to avoid out of all of the formations.
however, you're actually kinda unlikely to see that rare formation, as you'd prob need to low-level the game or intentionally stall to see that one
Don't you just love call-back boss themes?
In Kirby Planet Robobot, the game has quite a few as well. If you know, you know.
i must say, there are some visual changes in the remake that make things look wrong.
some star-shaped attacks became sparky-looking, energy orbs looking like balls of gas,
and worst of all is Dark Bowser's incomplete form.
it actually looks incomplete in the original, he's a hazy purple ghost without legs,
and getting full form back, finally gains his literal true colors and his legs.
the remake he's just a legless, slightly warbley, version of himself, which looks
like they werent done with that sprite work but had to call it there.
"Let's see how I do in the DS version"

Giving Fawful a slowed down theme of cakletta’s theme from the remakes and OG truly makes the story shiny at just how terrifying the guy had become.
From silly sidekick to the biggest threat the Mushroom Kingdom will likely ever face. What a glow up
From being the very first boss and a simple servant in the first Mario and Luigi game to becoming the main villain and one of the final bosses of the Mario and Luigi series. Fawful sure went through a journey in this series and might possibly be my favorite villain in entire Mario series.
I never knew you could go back as Bowser once you play the spike ball minigame against Dark Bowser. I always thought that was the point of no return.
I'm surprised Cackletta isn't brought up at all in this game, but I'm so happy they did a reprise of her boss theme from Superstar Saga in the remake. Also him calling us Fink-rats was a nice call back to the very first fight we had with him.
I suppose those 19 Retry Clocks came in useful lol
I am so proud of Fawful's rise from Toady to Villain, finally stepping up for himself and not the influence of a superior. We may never see him again after this game...

I started time when the arena loaded in and stopped it the moment Bowser left the top of the screen in the interlude chasm. And, like, for real, this should be the last giant chunk of points in the game until the bonus videos.)
*Footnotes*
10:27 Each lit Goomba does 10 damage, so that was 18 Goombas.
Same with 18:38
20:24 ...oh, dear.
“I don’t get it, he’s touching the dark star, yet he’s still sane.” “FIIIIIIIIIIIIIINKRAAAAAAAAAAAAATSSSS!!!!!!”
This is it, the Prelude to the end of the Best Adventure ever. Also I can’t wait for definitely see Peach’s Castle in BiS having a similar vibe as the Stone Tower Temple from Majora’s Mask.
Cutting to the 3DS version for some of these boss fights is a brilliant way to get around how overleveled we are.
This is it. Tomorrow is the finale of Mario and Luigi Bowser's inside story. This is going to be amazing. SHOWTIME!
People bring up Dark Star having its own theme in the remake. I wasn't even aware Dark Fawful got one too. No one ever brings that up.
I find it hilarious how Emile has fury over fighting Dark Fawful
