I finally received the Marc Jacobs See-Quins Glam Glitter shadows in shades Gleam Girl, Topaz Flash, Flashlight, Copperazzi, Glam Noir, and Glitz Blitz...and they are my favorite things ever! Blows my Tarte Chrome Paint Pots out of the water, but I'm all about the glitz. Thanks for, yet again, another excellent recommendation, Samantha. 🖤
Katie Howse EXACTLY!!!! And I thought I was luxe because I would only use the Clinique Super Double Face compact and its sponge on other compacts. I never used liquid in HS. I was too oily and athletic. I’m almost 40. It’s a struggle airday!! Like what the H?? 40!! Aaaaaaaaah!!!
I just wanted to thank you for existing Sam. I've been watching you for years now and as you got older and your makeup style changed, mine did too. Two years ago I would have never went to uni or hang out with friends in the city without makeup on, now I don't care anymore. I just do mascara and eyebrows most of the time, so thank you for helping me realize that I don't need it. I'm more confident because of you.
Funny enough, when I was in high school one of my best friends was Jaclyn Hill (yes that Jaclyn Hill), and the makeup I wore was what she told me to wear lol What stands out the most to me is I remember using the MAC foundation (Studio Fix I think) even though it broke me out horribly, and I applied it with a paddle foundation brush so it looked SO CAKEY!! Other than that I didn’t wear much unless she did my makeup. I wore the Victoria Secret lip glosses, black eyeliner, and mascara, all from MAC of course. I didn’t start doing my brows until college!
your comment about your teens and being acne free made me sad to hear... you could actually here the frustration bubbling just underneath the sarcasm!!! - just remember - acne or not - that you are beautiful, intelligent, witty and much more than your spots... your also f@#&*%g hilarious!!!
@@rmc169 acne sucks! When do you break out. Is it a specific time on your menstrual cycle or continuously. Where do you break out. Jawline is hormonal, cheekbones is a reaction to food, forehead is usually during puberty due to extreme sebum production. If you think that something you eat might be the problem eliminate food types one at a time to see if it makes a difference. Dairy can cause acne, but so can gluten, sugar and soy. Lastly when wearing make-up clean your brushes and sponges, otherwise everything gets contaminated.
Corey Escobar I truly feel like it’s the lash, and the winged out liner on inner and outer eye. We always hear that black eyeliner in the waterline closes the eye, but I think the liner with the lash combo is what’s doing it. So interesting to see the comparison.
Your super simple "now" eye just helped me so much. I watch an embarrassing number of youtube videos on eye shadow placement, and your approach really clicked for me. Thank you, girl!
I totally knew this is what you were doing when you posted an Instagram story teasing it! I still watch your old tutorials and new when doing my make up
Oh Sam, I just can’t thank you enough for helping me learn to accept my adult acne. I never had it until a couple years ago and I’m in my 30s! Until I found you, I was that person carrying my entire face of makeup with me out of insecurity. But now I’m ok with a more sheer foundation where some spots show through and I only take a lip product with me!
The gel eyeliner tip is something I've never heard of before so I will be running out to buy some today since eyeliner never stays in my waterline. I hope it's not too much to ask but would it be possible for you to do a video on how to make our makeup last as long as possible? :)
A good one is the loreal infallible pro gel liner, it will last you a lifetime, I still have mine from a few years ago when I went really ham on my eyeliner.
I recommend marc Jacob's retractable gel liner. I know the price seems high but when I tell you it's *kisses fingers to the sky* perfect quality, it's perfect quality. Unlike any liner I've had before and truly does stay put
I have been watching you for a while and this is bringing me back girl. I remember the video where you said something like “who am I, I’m doing natural/light face makeup” and I was like wtf Sam hello ? But then it looked amazing and I was like she may be onto something here. As I am blessed with adult acne and aging as well you changed my makeup game forever and helped me come to the conclusion that it’s okay if my spots/texture shows through and my skin looked more natural. Love you girl, you really are impactful ✌️
I had the most perfect beautiful skin until I hit my twenties and then I got adult acne! I literally get cysts on my face that are super painful and are so red and angry looking! But I'm really trying to embrace my skin and refuse to where heavy foundation to cake my face! Using mac face and body and just trying to not let my acne define me or my happiness! Samantha your gorgeous and your literally my inspiration 💕💕
I only heard the auto focus sound once in the beginning but it was not annoying at all. I feel you about carrying a whole face of makeup in your makeup bag. I carried one bag with all of the makeup that I used that morning, and a separate bag with all of my brushes and tools in case I had to fix my makeup. I did that for over a decade. I just this past weekend decided to stop carrying it with me, and just minimized to a powder compact and some lip products. I was literally carrying my insecurities with me in those bags every single day, and I felt like enough was enough. I relate to you on so many levels, and I’m so grateful that I randomly clicked on one of your videos a few months ago. You’re definitely one of my favorite influencers, and I think that contrary to most other “influencers” out there, the word truly fits you. 💜
I totally remember watching your videos bc i loved your technique and recommandations but i hated that you were using too many colors and too full coverage. I am so happy of the way your channel turned out, you re just one of my fav now ♥️
This is so relatable omg I used to do this EXACT LOOK with a GOSH shadow quad with bright yellow, green, blue and I think turquoise and would just wear those all the time. I was never into lashes or liner I think because I have hooded eyes so wanted as much of the bright colours to shine forth! The blush was the real flashback moment though omg this was me 100% To be honest I still go ham on blush but my makeup is definitely more like your current one too, or just a bold lip, no eyeshadow. I do bright colours whenever I can but who has the time lol like you said Great video as always x
in middle school, a colored eyeshadow all over the lid (and extending to the end of my eyebrow) to match the color of my polo. foundation mixed with moisturizer. tight lined and water lined black eyeliner and mascara. done.
Back in high school, I used to wear blue. Blue eyeshadow, blue eyeliner, blue mascara; dark blue, light blue, purple blue, blue, blue, blue. Still can’t resist a hint of blue but it’s not LIFE for me anymore. Great video! So good to reminisce and in your case ‘see’ how much we’ve evolved makeup wise. Big XO
I had a few phases: emo; winged liner + red lips; and this glorious eye creation of brown on the lid, fading outwards to yellow and then to pink. All done with a Lorac palette my mom got me that had a red snakeskin cover. Foundation was Dream Matte Mousse applied in shellac-like thickness with a drugstore triangle sponge that I never cleaned and used until it was literally disintegrating in my hand.
My makeup style has changed so much and still does at times. I love a full glam but I also appreciate "natural" Nude glam. I truly love both. Sometimes I want to be full glam and sometimes I want minimal or a soft bronzey look. I always love your videos. Very informative and I always learn from your videos and you are absolutely gorgeous 💗
I used to wear revlon colorstay, (or any thick, matte foundation I could find) shape tape (rip undereyes) and I set with coty airspun. I’m really on point with my skincare and prefer dewy, lighter coverage. I really prep my skin well which makes SO MUCH of a difference. And for the last 2 weeks I’ve not worn any foundation to work just good skincare and spot concealing. Such a huge change and I’m loving it!
I KNEW IT! When I saw your IG story, I knew it would be this video. I love this! I used to wear shimmery eyeshadows, on the lids. No mattes, no transition shades. And I used sponge applicators or my fingers for that shimmer.. Even further back, in my first years of high school I even used a shimmery silvery grey pencil all over my lid *sobbing*. Later on, I religiously used flaky waterproof liquid liner for wings that were wayyy to big. I used only a stick concealer, which was definitely too old and dried out after a while. Only for spot 'concealing'. No foundation, no under eye concealer. In my early teens I loved way to glittery and obnoxiously bright and sticky glosses. I recently fell in love again with sheer and glossy lips, after swearing off glosses for a few long years of only wearing opaque mattes after these disastrous gloss times lol. However, my new glosses lately are more flattering and less glittery glosses.
My mind-blowing moment, courtesy of you, was learning that there are different ways to make different shadows/products work. Brush or finger, wet or dry, base or none, etc. It helped me not give up so easily!
I hope this helps: the little clicking sounds -I assume it is the autofocus sound- are a little bit distracting. I could't focus on you entirely bc of that. So I think the palcement on the table is better.
I've been following you since Day 1 on Reddit. It's been an absolute joy watching you perfect your artistry. Still watching, can't wait to see where you'll be in another 10 years. xoxo
I just set my eyeprimer from the browbone to just above my mobile lid, which lets me blend that transition shade seamlessly up BUT also have that "tacky" surface for shimmers to adhere to on my lid. Works like a charm.
This has me thinking about my middle school years when I was just getting into makeup. I have three older sisters and I would get their makeup hand me downs as well as a few bits and bobs of my own. So, middle school Kat had extremely acne prone, oil slick skin. My acne was devastatingly bad and it made me super self conscious. I had a Clinique foundation which I painted on with a paint brush looking brush. I’m extremely pale and in the late 2000s no company carried anything close to my shade. Companies are just now starting to come out with a true shade match. So my skin would always look slightly odd. I had a green concealer that almost was in lipstick form that I used to help cover the acne. I had no idea about primer or setting powder so my makeup would melt by the end of the day, every day. That’s all I’d do for my face. All I cared about was covering up my acne. For my eyes I had this little Tarte palette that had this sparkly gold in it and I would just put that all over the lid. I had no idea that you could use more than one shadow at a time. I used a Victoria’s Secret sparkly purple liquid liner that I was actually allergic to. My eye makeup would melt off by the end of the day too. I used some sort of Covergirl mascara but only on my top lashes. My lashes are very light since my mom is from northern Sweden. The contrast of the dark upper lashes and super light bottom lashes was cringe worthy. For lips I used the DuWop lip venom, the one that was being promoted with the first Twilight movie. It stung my lips and settled into the cracks pretty quickly. I had no idea about brows. My brows are super duper blonde so if I don’t fill them in, you can’t see them. So there was little middle school me with this super sparkly eye, lip venom lip stain and invisible eyebrows. What a good look.
Before I was ever into makeup, I loved blush. I went through an entire MAC Dollymix in less than a year. I have no pictures from that time, but I CANNOT imagine what I looked like 😂 I still overdo my cheek products though, but now it's bronzer. I gotta chill.
The fact that you can remember how you did your makeup is astounding. I mean I know we had MySpace....I can remember bits and pieces. All I know is that at the time, all my makeup could fit in the bag I now use for my makeup brushes 😂🤦♀️🙈
Jocelyn Sloan girl same. I have vague memories of cheetah print eye shadow and cover girl powder for foundation but for the most part I truly DO. OT remember. 😂
I’m pretty positive I spoke this into existence. Spent so long scrolling into the ooooldest IG posts comparing Sam’s makeup then/now and BAM! Here we are 🤯😍
I personally love the way you do your makeup now. I’ve always been drawn to the more natural look. The eye on the high school side is very eye catching tho!
Maybe you've gone far with the blush, but your h sch eye looks stunning. Perhaps I'm a bit old fashion, but a blended shadow with the liner for me is like stake comparing to burger. Anyway, bravo! Cheers! :)
Since you pointed it out, that autofocus ticking is quite noticeable and I couldn’t stop hearing it... maybe not the best spot for the mic. 🤷♀️ But love the vid and your chats as usual 😘
Izabela Bilska I didn’t notice it until I read this and now it’s driving me crazy lmao. I forgot she had said it, and then I heard it and now I’m going insane.
In high school we all used our fingers to apply foundation, and the foam tip applicator that came with the eye shadow...yep 1 shadow..sometimes 2..no concealer, contour ,bronzer,or highlighter....just blush with little brush that came with the product..no real brushes..and Coty airspun powder..black eyeliner and mascara..no eyebrow product...oh and of course the frosted pink lipstick..simply Gorgeous..not...my favorite base was Max Factor Pancake stick...cake it baby
The eye look if it would've been blended right and a transition color used, would've looked pretty! Loved the look on the way you do your makeup now! That lip color was gorgeous!
Morgan Norton my brows are super duper blonde and you really can’t see them unless I run something through them. So it looked like I had no brows until my junior year of high school when I was in a play and they filled my brows in
sam you were the person i looked up to when i was in early high school when i found you on tumblr, and you better believe i was wearing that neutral eye with winged eyeliner, mac warm soul, and a nude lip😂 now i’m 21 and i still watch you like 6 or so years later
What brush did you use for your bronzer? Or is there any other must have face brushes that you could reccomend! I also bought the Fenty bronzer and love it! 💜💜
Hi sam! Ive been watching your videos since like 2014, and i swear you're still my favorite on TH-cam! I love how we have similar skin problems, and you dont cake on foundation! You've inspired me to use a bb cream now, with all cream products haha! I love you and thank you for continuing to stay real. You should do like a diy treat yourself type of video! (With your favorite skin products!)
I didn’t wear makeup in high school, unless it was for a special occasion (dance, wedding). That’s the way my mom wanted it growing up. When I did, I ended up looking like an oily mess, and I could never find the right foundation (still looking). I’m 25 years old now, and I’m finally teaching myself. I feel like so many people have an advantage over me that I spend a lot of time watching makeup videos, learning about brushes, technique, products; there is SO much information. I will say I still love a more natural makeup look, similar to what you do currently.
The audio is fine. This video is so much fun to watch! I love it! I don’t think your “high school” look is bad. Compared to my makeup and other people I’ve seen, you look great. Ok maybe not the blush but that was in at the time 🤣
This is why Sam is the best. Its hilarious and fun but also she teaches why techniques are used and the difference between the sides with the transition colors and stuff ❤ A+++ influencer
Audio is perfect on this video. I'm quite a bit older but I wore covergirl everything and my eyelook was silver shadow all over the lid.. and overplucked 90's brows 🤣
I did the same thing with my makeup bag until I was 22! I couldn’t go out without it. Now it is an actual miracle if I put mascara on in the morning. We grew up!
That blush application was something else! In high school all I really cared about was hiding my acne behind a full-coverage Estee Lauder foundation. Then I'd pop on some pale pink Covergirl blush and Maybelline mascara...maybe...? before digging out a Wet 'n' Wild lipstick. I think I used pressed powder, too. My mom barely wore makeup, I didn't have sisters, I didn't read fashion magazines, and most of my friends hardly wore makeup either, so I was legit 25 before I found out about brow products. If I had to pick just one thing to do now, it would be brows. Actually...my entire knowledge of makeup has been acquired since I turned 25. And now I just love it.
So fun going back down memory lane! I have to think real hard what I did in high school, I used a lot of blue eyeshadows, mostly 3 colors with black pencil liner on the lower lash line. No brows, just a little brush action and no foundation at all. I have just started wearing foundation on the daily, since like a year or something
"I still don't mind the concealer lips..." *me, wearing Maybelline Vivid Hot Laquer in "Tease" or Bite's "Flat White" gloss almost every day* Absurd. 😐
I'm still stuck in high school in that area of my makeup, hahah. If I'm not doing a bold lip, it is basically my skin tone with maybe a gloss on top! I don't like most nude lip shades -- too pinky or peachy for my preference, so... If it ain't broke, don't fix it. 😅
I haven't watched a beauty/makeup video in so long but remembered how much I used to love your channel and just came across this and I am in LOVE. This was such a fun video and made me think about how ott i used to go for getting ready for school with 2 pairs of fake eyelashes compared to now where i barely remember to use mascara. Also your before look is so blended i could never even now
Sam, I don’t know what you’re using on your skin but I’ve been using raw organic pure african shea butter in place of moisturizer and rose water in place of toner. Also to wash my face just plain ol dove beauty bar. My fave is clearer than its ever been! Just wanted to share my routine ❤️
I so prefer your natural sensible nails and wasn't it easy to do your lid colour!! You look beautiful regardless of the makeup Sam Xxxxx you are stunning xxxxX
I yelled "SAMANTHA" when you put on the blush. And then you said you weren't trying to exaggerate and now I'm just doubled over with laughter. Thank you.
The sound was just fine! & I love that you did a video like this! I was JUST thinking about my "back in the day" makeup the other day. I used a stick concealer (with my finger), black eyeliner on my waterline, & black mascara. Done. Blush? Highlighter? Lip...anything? Not even a blip on my radar. Lol
I was all about the lime green eyeshadow in high school. It was a cream shadow that came in a little tube but I can’t remember who made it. I’d put it right over my black eyeliner so it would turn shimmery.
I’ve had a very similar make-up journey to you but unfortunately I’m much older and didn’t find out about transition eyeshadow until 3 years ago. By some miracle, my wedding make-up actually looked ok, in spite of being done entirely with a MAC 213, 266 and 129, as well as using the MAC 213 to blend a matte shadow into the crease over a shimmery lid colour. Thank goodness for TH-cam! xx
even the blurring filter on the thumbnail couldn't conceal that atrocity of a blush application

What false lashes are you wearing on the “now” side? They are so beautiful!
You should do a series where you recreate looks from the very beginning of your channel but update it to how you would do it now!!

Unnervingly relatable. Always had to have my makeup available for touch ups in case a spec of my (youthful) skin was exposed 🤦🏼♀️
I still do that lol😂
Lmaooooo 🤣 🤣👌

@@Forever-gd7vs what's that have to do with the blob on the tip of the mascara wand?

I love the colorful eyeshadow look. I love color and I love to play so it is right up my alley.
I was hoping you’d do this video! So cool to see how style evolves with your skill!
You’ve been the groundbreaking MAC girls for me as I’ve watched your videos for years! ❤️❤️❤️
You’re so beautiful inside and out sam 💕
I just set my eyeprimer from the browbone to just above my mobile lid, which lets me blend that transition shade seamlessly up BUT also have that "tacky" surface for shimmers to adhere to on my lid. Works like a charm.
1- mic is fine.
2- I ain’t even mad at the “back in the day” look. lol
‘I used to use navy pigment - wha who who raised you’ dead 😂😂
Yes, Sam! Teach me all the things about blending! I would totally watch all instructional videos from you.
Before I was ever into makeup, I loved blush. I went through an entire MAC Dollymix in less than a year. I have no pictures from that time, but I CANNOT imagine what I looked like 😂 I still overdo my cheek products though, but now it's bronzer. I gotta chill.
Don't care about any noise, what the video is about, just happy to see a video from you. On any subject, any content.
Here we are 🤯😍
That foiled shadow is so pretty😍 definitely you have improved Samantha 😂😂
I personally love the way you do your makeup now. I’ve always been drawn to the more natural look. The eye on the high school side is very eye catching tho!
Maybe you've gone far with the blush, but your h sch eye looks stunning. Perhaps I'm a bit old fashion, but a blended shadow with the liner for me is like stake comparing to burger. Anyway, bravo! Cheers! :)
Regardless that you don’t like the way you did your makeup back in the day, but you rock those bright eye colors!!!🐠🐠🐠
Yes!!! Until someone mentioned it in the comments i couldn’t stop hearing it LOL
FAFFINETTE!!! I went and watched some videos she put out a couple years ago and the nostalgia was so real for her and viewers
Julie Brown omg yes. Panstick!!!!
The eye look if it would've been blended right and a transition color used, would've looked pretty! Loved the look on the way you do your makeup now! That lip color was gorgeous!
Ooo girl I loved me some silver eye shadow and clumpy mascara, and did not understand why anyone would fill their eyebrows in. 🤦🏼♀️
Karleigh Lee-Hubble I’m always looking for the best bronzer brush but I feel like so many people forget to talk about brushes.
@@hayleylarsen7938 agreed! Everyone always skips over the brushes! I'm thinking its a Smith cosmetics brush?
Yeah sorry the auto focus noise is distracting. Have to say if you hadn’t pointed it out I wouldn’t have noticed tho. 🤷🏼♀️🤣
Is it weird that I love your "back in the days" eye ? x)
Love the color combo of your colorful side. I wear colors like that alot.
We grew up!
I was in the marching band/Colorguard and we had so many brightly colored makeup looks that I was convinced “fancy” makeup was bright purple 😂
Keri McCall SAME
When I did guard, I had to have bright colors on the day to day to feel dressed up
you're the most relaxing youtuber, i love your videos
I heard nothing but you - confession I love the high school look. Sigh. We all had to grow up. Good times.
I've rarely in my life I've seen eyes soooooo blue like your , amazing !
Bumblebee check out Graveyard Girl then (aka, Bunny.) Hers are mesmerizing.
"I still don't mind the concealer lips..."
*me, wearing Maybelline Vivid Hot Laquer in "Tease" or Bite's "Flat White" gloss almost every day* Absurd. 😐
Concealer lips looks really good with a deep smokey eye
@@emmm507 right. whenever i do a mokey eye, i can't resist...
Also your before look is so blended i could never even now
When I was in highschool I did a full face of make up every day but never eyeshadow. I honestly just found eyeshdows a couple of years ago 😅.
You are the best. You’re my favorite for actual daily makeup and help so much
Damnit Sam EVERY VIDEO you make me want to spend my money. That brown shimmery eye look...I need it or I will....cease to exist?
Taylor Sanders I read that in Sam’s voice lmao
Thank you.
Oh yay! I love these videos and I was hoping you would do one! I feel like it would be quite different ✌🏽
*Looking gorgeous as always* 😍😘
😘😘😘
Foundation that didn’t match + eyeliner + maybe mascara. I must have looked insane. I don’t think I understood the purpose of blush until college.
Blush?? What is that?? My high school me didn't know why people use liquid foundation if you have powder for being mate and cakey all day 😂😂😂
The sound was just fine! & I love that you did a video like this! I was JUST thinking about my "back in the day" makeup the other day. I used a stick concealer (with my finger), black eyeliner on my waterline, & black mascara. Done. Blush? Highlighter? Lip...anything? Not even a blip on my radar. Lol
is perhaps... the shimmery lime green you’re talking about... from the urban decay electric palette? asking for a friend
I was all about the lime green eyeshadow in high school. It was a cream shadow that came in a little tube but I can’t remember who made it. I’d put it right over my black eyeliner so it would turn shimmery.
I’m 26, and I literally can’t remember how I did makeup like 2 years ago, much less when I was in high school 😂🤷🏻♀️
Courtney Smith i thought i was the only one!!
Thank goodness for TH-cam! xx
