Most people eating at places like that have zero concerns about money. I suspect the prices are designed to keep the oiks out, and it only seems expensive to us because we actually have to think about when to put our heating on and how much it costs to fill the fuel tank in the car

The reason why certain places are very expensive is to deliberately exclude people from lower socio-economic orders. Even $100 for a meal is chump change for someone who is only a millionaire, let alone someone who is HNW. But many of these places also pay incredible rent and, higher wages, so that has to be passed onto the patron.

What is it with brioche buns?, I don’t care for them at all, too sweet for my taste, especially with fish. Over priced even for there. Glad you enjoyed it though. 😊
@@nightnurse2543 Well, considering we are all supposed to be cutting back on sugar it seems bonkers that they are shoving it in everything. I like wholemeal or sourdough, they can have their brioche buns back and gladly…..rant over!😁 Happy eating to you.😊
I do like Tom Kerridge but have only been to his original pub in Marlow; The Hand & Flowers which has continued to be awarded 2 Michelin Stars for a few years now. The prices of these places are never cheap because you paying for quality and not quantity. As I always say, if you just want to fill your belly, go to a cheap cafe or McDonald's. The Triple Cooked Chips are an enigma. They do taste good but I think it is more about the "science" that brings in the WOW factor and the price. I am no physicist, so I do not understand it, but part of the process is to freeze the chips overnight; hence it takes them 2 days to fully cook a batch, and essentially that is where the pricing comes in. I am with you on the flavour of the tartare sauce, it s the same at The Hand & Flowers in that it is not very sharp or tangy, but I think they are trying (maybe too hard) to please the majority, hence they give you the cornichons if you want to add more tang yourself. Personally, I would not worry about being a "people pleaser", do away with the cornichons and put more pickles and capers in the sauce, because that is how tartare sauce is meant to be. I have not actually tried Tom's "Fish Finger Sandwich" and I was a bit surprised it was breadcrumbed. I much prefer battered fish; even when I buy supermarket fish fingers for everyday normal living, I only ever buy battered. Overall, I have no problem with the price because I know what I am getting; it is not an everyday meal, it is an occasional treat. Your 4/5 is perfectly fair.
I wanted to pick the item in breadcrumbs, because I heard the batter isn't good. Due to limited space everything they produce is gluten free I think, as they just don't have the room for a dedicated gluten free frying area. As for the price, well that's the one known going into it. Is it overpriced, possibly, but it was blooming tasty! Have a great weekend Gary!
@@GreenoEats I applaud them for going the gluten-free route as it does then offer more people more choice. Although I do agree, it does change the texture of things.
That sandwich looke incredible. I am a big fan of brioche buns and tartar sauce. I don't mind paying when the food is great...but that is a lot of money.
Hi Greeno. Just watched Gary’s vid about a Ramsey breakfast. Not going to repeat myself but at least your food looked delicious and you enjoyed it. Good vid, thanks my friend. Stay well, Dave M.
💕😀xx hello Greeno. I live in said pretty market town and frequently walk past the Kerridge establishments, looking in the windows at the diners! But WOULDN’T DREAM of going inside! We are retired and enjoy the simple life 🥰thanks for your vlogs.
Harrods for a fish finger sarnie! Fair play to you. It's nice to treat yourself to a luxury meal every now and again! Price is in line with it being a celebrity chef, in Harrods in one of the most expensive areas in the world! I'd go with a 4 too
Got to say you remained very professional and impartial especially after Gary eats review when visiting. Fish and chips just tastes better by the sea if you ask me 🐟🐟
Those menu prices are utterly insane. £6 for a bread roll, £42 for scampi?! 250g of caviar for £490. Anyone who orders that has more money than sense! And then there's the disgusting 12.5% service charge on top!
Interesting. I'd never eat there - I've always found that store a little "manic", but it's good to get an idea of what's available and what you get for your money.
For that much I want the whole fish. All these celebrity chefs love talking about affordable food on their shows and then go and open restaurants that aren't affordable and offer tiny portions to boot. I have no doubt the food is really well prepared to a high quality and tasted great but it is crazy the price to portion size. I would hazard a guess that much of that is to cover the higher than average wages and the cost of renting the space.
I think you’re right about he higher than average operating costs here, but I also think that the target audience are generally unconcerned by the prices…
That was a good-quality plate of food, Greeno, if not a little overpriced. As my late stepmum used to sqy: "you get what you pay for!" though there are 2 ways of looking at thst. 😹 The Red Ale should have been served at room temperature, not chilled. The golden rule is craft ales should always be served at room temperature otherwise you'll kill off the yeast, hence not even a single-finger head on that beer. The exception of course is lagers smand craft lagers, ehich benefit greatly from chilling as the brewing process is a little different - but that's me, nit-picking! BTW the Green Hop Ale out of Gadd's this year is paeticularly delicious and highly popular. It is very smooth with a bitter finish on the palate. That was a jolly good experience at TK Harrods you shared with us, Greeno, and I'm pleased it scraped through your green light. One for Dan snd I to try if and when we're feeling flush! 😺
@@GreenoEats you too . . . The Green Hop Festival is a very Kentish thing which is the forerunner of and runs into Oktoberfest but I'm sure other hop-producing regions of the country must have something similar.
Entertaining vlog Greano, posh butty and a pint !! The place was packed to the rafters, so noisy, it looked to be overflowing not some where I would want to enjoy a relaxing lunch.
Although there may have been quality, there was nowhere near £42 worth of quality. £9.50 for a bottle of beer, £9.50 for 9 chips. The binocular section at Harrods must be doing a great lot of trade!! I get that you need to give a fair review across the board Greeno, but even if I was shopping in Harrods, I'd have gone somewhere either more substantial, or a hell of a lot cheaper. Despite all that, it did look nice. 😉
I can only speak as I find it - and while it is expensive, and were I out for a day around London it might not be the first place I would pick to eat, it was delicious!
Please eat the main event first, when it is still hot. Don't get destracted by the sides and let the main component go cold and stale. Better still, order your sides seperately afterwards.
A pound a chip!! LOL... If a piece of fish, even a fish "finger" needs to be slathered with tartare sauce in order not to be dry then surely there's an issue. If you're paying that sort of money I would think that anything less than a perfect score must deserve a fail.
I suppose that is one way to look at it - I just think it was a tasty food experience, and while at a high price it was certainly better value the other place i ate at in the same building!
All you can do is laugh at these places, prices and the food. I enjoy eating out at good establishments and think I have a good gastronomy knowledge. Hello Greeno, I loved the video but living in South East London, I've never paid a cover charge or even a service charge, nor would I pay a quid a chip
I’ve no problem at all for paying high prices for high quality. What’s the point in paying £10 or whatever for a big portion of fish and chips and they taste like crap? THAT’S a waste of money. Spending what you did on a high quality, tasty meal isn’t a waste of money. Might try it myself - cheers!
A huge percentage of the cost is for the location. Yes, food is reasonable quality, but that is not just what you are paying for. I don't mind paying for a quality experience but I don't feel this is what you are getting here. We’ve had a meal at Kerridges at The Corintha Hotel, a few years ago, and that was worth the money. Lovely service, lots of little extras etc.
I think it’s all about volumes of people. It’s London. Harrods is always going to be a tourist attraction and they will naturally flock to these places to eat. The prices are extortionate and I will never complain about the mediocre overpriced Cornwall restaurants again (but then, I’ve stopped going out).
Yes, there are plenty of people willing to pay those Harrods prices, I went at 4pm assuming it would be a little quieter than lunch or evening service, how wrong I was !

They put the lettuce between the fish and sauce not to protect the bun, but to protect the crunch of the fish fingers from getting mushy and sloppy from the sauce. Which you guys don't understand because in England you ruin everything crunchy by putting vinegar all over your crunchy batter and crispy chips, and gravy all over beautiful crisp pastry on pies. And half of those you eat cold. 😅

What is it with brioche buns?, I don’t care for them at all, too sweet for my taste, especially with fish.
Over priced even for there. Glad you enjoyed it though. 😊
I totally agree brioche buns have no place on savoury dishes😮America is to thank for that!!!
@@nightnurse2543 Well, considering we are all supposed to be cutting back on sugar it seems bonkers that they are shoving it in everything. I like wholemeal or sourdough, they can have their brioche buns back and gladly…..rant over!😁 Happy eating to you.😊
It really was tasty!
@@GreenoEats As it should well be for that price, that’s the least I’d expect, glad you enjoyed it though. 😊
@@nightnurse2543No the US isn’t to thank for Brioche buns, the UK has no need to copy American.
It was all the money, and then some. But everything in Harrods is really!!
Hi Greeno. Just watched Gary’s vid about a Ramsey breakfast. Not going to repeat myself but at least your food looked delicious and you enjoyed it. Good vid, thanks my friend. Stay well, Dave M.
I haven’t seen Gary’s video yet, looking forward to doing so today!
💕😀xx hello Greeno. I live in said pretty market town and frequently walk past the Kerridge establishments, looking in the windows at the diners! But WOULDN’T DREAM of going inside! We are retired and enjoy the simple life 🥰thanks for your vlogs.
A window into how the other half live huh :-) Glad you're enjoying the videos!!
👍 straight away
You’ll be disappointed mate
See if I’m right….
seriously, £8 quid pub lunch
And were you right?😂
The worlds gone fucking mad
In many ways
Harrods for a fish finger sarnie! Fair play to you. It's nice to treat yourself to a luxury meal every now and again! Price is in line with it being a celebrity chef, in Harrods in one of the most expensive areas in the world!
I'd go with a 4 too
Yeah, more money than I would like to pay, but at least it was tasty!
Got to say you remained very professional and impartial especially after Gary eats review when visiting. Fish and chips just tastes better by the sea if you ask me 🐟🐟
As I am Dorset born and bred, I would have to agree with your last sentence :-)
Quite expensive but it is where you are, and it does look good , and the burger looks delicious 😋 enjoy ❤
It was all very tasty!
Those menu prices are utterly insane.
£6 for a bread roll, £42 for scampi?!
250g of caviar for £490. Anyone who orders that has more money than sense!
And then there's the disgusting 12.5% service charge on top!
I didn't see anyone ordering the caviar and chips while I was there, but I bet some folk do!
Almost half a pound of caviar is a tremendous amount,so I can’t imagine any single person eating that much.
@@JanetBrown-px2jn I guess that gets shared between a party...
Another great review Greeno, very nice place to shop and eat but think i'll stick to Morrison's....
With strawberries at £8 a pack I don’t think I’ll be shopping there!
Thank you Greeno, will give that one a miss, never believe in taking out a mortgage to eat!! I would want a side of Caviar for that price. 🤗🤗👍👍
Haha, sorry, the caviar was extra 😂
That would have to be a special treat at those prices. Scoring was spot on 👍.
Glad you agree with me :-)
Interesting. I'd never eat there - I've always found that store a little "manic", but it's good to get an idea of what's available and what you get for your money.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That looked yummy! I would have slathered more tartare sauce on the sandwich from the start 😂. I love tartare sauce. That meal was expensive though!
It was pricey certainly, but very tasty!
Eeew brioche buns with fish... Don't be fooled people fish needs a bread bun not a fancy light doughnut.. 🤢🤢🤢
I don't fancy that with Fish myself, i like it with Pork or Beef, but that's different.
Fair point - this actually worked quite well though, little bit of sweetness to the break worked witht he tartare and the fish
Green Hop, I will have to look out for that! Have a great weekend 🙂
Yes, it was loud - very busy but also horrible acoustics in the room
Wow the service charge. Glad you enjoyed it Greeno!! All the best and look forward to the next one! ….Smithy
Cheers Smithy - you off to the Bescot for the early kick off tomorrow?
@@GreenoEats As the Churchill dog would say - Ooooohhh Yes!! 😂
Nice one Greeno, looks like a decent sort of eatery although somewhat over-priced? Keep up the good work
Thanks, I appreciate that!
It's similar to food courts in malls that we have here in the States. Just less fancy. lol
Well that's a tiny little thing.
Definitely a posh food court this one, need to sell a kidney to eat there haha!
@@GreenoEats indeed. I've actually been there. I liked the vibe of the place. I mean it's Harrods.
Please eat the main event first, when it is still hot. Don't get destracted by the sides and let the main component go cold and stale. Better still, order your sides seperately afterwards.
The chips were part of the meal, not a side ordered separately
@@GreenoEats Still, get to the main event first.
Need ur dji mic on greenock I think?
The mic as on, it was just really busy and loud, and the acoustics of the room are a nightmare!
@GreenoEats sorry mate seen the magnet thought maybe off.
@@Wildatlantictravels if you look closely you can just about see the blue light showing it is on glowing through the polo shirt 🤣
Hi Greeno done my first Donegal road trip video today maybe you can have a look at it any comments greatly appreciated..
Loads of money though it did look nice. What type of fish do you reckon that was?
it was unspecified, as they change the fish used each day - tasted like haddock to me.
Ask birdseye.

All you can do is laugh at these places, prices and the food. I enjoy eating out at good establishments and think I have a good gastronomy knowledge. You can put anyone's name to food, the only thing you can guarantee is that they didn't cook it! Top review Greeno, loving the channel. My Mo Farrah slippers don't get me moving faster than normal........
I think Tom Kerridge did a shift there last week sometime, but of course normally he is not around... Glad you're enjoying the channel!
Remember my music reference for here? I hope that is beef fat or similar used in cooking. 4 of 5 give or take and too expensive. Looked enjoyable.
I don't know what oil was used actually
@@GreenoEats Do not worry about the oil or fat, however music is Knightsbridge March by Eric Coates for the area that you had that tasty expensive and tasty food..

Hello Greeno, I loved the video but living in South East London, I've never paid a cover charge or even a service charge, nor would I pay a quid a chip

Iceland frozen chips probably 😅😅😅😅😅
All chips taste the same after I've put on masses of salt and then drowning in vinegar.

I dunno, these were no McCains oven chip!
Ha ha - I don't think Iceland's chips are 2 days in the making (still can't work out what takes that long!)
They look like standard steak fries here in the US. We have a brand Ore Ida thats comparable.
You could tell that these had been through more processes than your average chip, not like anything you’d find in a store
I can’t believe how much the beer cost, the fish finger sandwich looked yummy though but the amount of chips was a bit of a joke. :)
Everything in Harrods is a bit of a joke really - £9.50 for a bottle of beer is a bit beyond the pail I guess!!
How do work their prices out.....??..... Think of a number and treble it....??
I guess the cost to rent that space is extortionate, but yeah, prices high... at least the food was good!
Any thing in life that’s any good, you have to pay for it!
Great job Greeno 😊
Thanks, I appreciate that 🙂
I’ve no problem at all for paying high prices for high quality. What’s the point in paying £10 or whatever for a big portion of fish and chips and they taste like crap? THAT’S a waste of money. Spending what you did on a high quality, tasty meal isn’t a waste of money. Might try it myself - cheers!
If you do then I hope you'll enjoy it :-)
A huge percentage of the cost is for the location.
Yes, it's kind of "entry level" Kerridge experience, but with a Harrods premium. Tp be fair though it was very tasty!
Another great review Gary did a review her and he was very disappointed unbelievable expensive just goes to prove that money doesn't buy quality there are many people in this world who have more money than sense

We can all marvel at the culinary acuity needed by a food reviewer to assess a chip.
There’s a lot of difference between a good and a bad chip 🙂
You have been robbed,is it run by Dick Turpin's clan? You could have visited a chippy near me and bought a Yorkshire fishcake for less than 3 quid and lam sure you would have enjoyed it more than the ponsified offerings you have just chewed.Interesting review 👍.

Yes, it's not a place I would visit regularly, but I would go back again (if my Premium Bonds come in!!)
Ha ha, we do love our vinegar and gravy that’s for sure!
