This was my favorite advent episode so far. Selmar did a great job as Sinterclaus (?). He made a great costume as well. Though Kat was a close 2nd, as Santa with an attitude.
When I first saw Selmar's Sinterklaas costume I thought he had bought from a shop..He really did an amazing job at bringing Sinterklaas to life for us all to meet..

I’m going back over last years Advent vlogs so haven’t been leaving comments, although I’m absolutely compelled to comment on this one. I have laughed over a lot of la Lande videos but this one was truly exceptional! I could not contain my laughter when Kat was Sinterclaus and I literally laughed uncontrollably with tears running down my face! 😭🤣 Selmar you are an amazing addition to the la Lande family and so talented in everything you do. The costume was so well done and you will leave such a big gap in the Chateau life as you leave to pursue your very own Chateau dream. Sinterklaas or St Nicholas is the patron saint of my village, Siġġiewi in the little island of Malta. We celebrate the feast on December 6th. It's so nice to know that St Nicholas, the bishop of Myra is appreciated so much in the Netherlands!! I'm loving every minute of your Christmas Advent blog. Thank you so much!!

I lived in the Netherlands when I was a kid and loved to celebrate Sinterklaas!✨💕Yes, in the 80s, I remembered Sinterklaas showing up on a boat, along with his helper. My sisters and I would put our shoes out with carrots in them. There might have been one time I didn’t receive anything, I was probably naughty that year. So I had to behave when Santa Clause came on Christmas Eve. Great memories!😃💕✨
I found the gift opening touching, and began to cry a bit. The robes are all lovely and Selmar is the cleverest of men, designing his Sinderklaas outfit from things he found. It's an odd Christmas this year, many of us separated from family by the pandemic. These videos are a real tonic for the soul. I guess all these lovely volunteers will be staying for Christmas due to travel restrictions, tiers and lockdowns. It is a real pity for their families at home, they will be missed. It will be a lovely memory for the volunteers, this Lalande Christmas. When I was younger I was working as a volunteer cook in a Buddhist monastery, and we were snowed in near Christmas, so I never got home to my family for the celebrations, but I have never forgotten the peace and tranquillity of that Christmas. It was a special time and helped me to see what my priorities were. It was a turning point in my life. I do hope Gerry can make it back to Lalande soon. Not the same without his cheery presence.
I love your videos so much!! I wanted to suggest though that when you make a food that has nuts, just pour a portion of the mixture out (like the Mexican cake) in a single serving to itself Then add the nuts for the main portion! That way Philip can always have some. We must make sure Philip always has his, even in separate portions. Thank you! 🙏❤️

Awww what a lovely Sinterklaas celebration you all had! We celebrate the same way in Austria. "Nikolaus", as we call him, has nothing to do with Christmas - it is to honor the Greek bishop who cared for the poor and sick so many years ago. In Austria, you put your shoes outside and clean them (just like in Germany) and you will find some sweets in them the next day. 💕 Then at night Sinterklaas comes to your house and reads something about everyone from a big book. 🥰 Everyone gets a litte bag full of nuts, oranges, sweets and a present. What a beautiful familial celebration this evening. It’s so incredibly moving that such a diverse and global group of people can come together and share their holiday celebrations with each other & 100,000 other people and make it so intimate and special. I was incredibly moved by tonight’s celebration. The robes are lovely. The Dutch Advent calendar is unique & beautiful. The cake seemed delicious. Because of Covid so many of us are alone for the holidays. I did not feel alone this evening. I felt the holiday spirit. Thank you. Happy & healthy holiday wishes to all Lalanders.

This was so beautiful! Selmar in red robe, Bishop mitre (hat) and shepherd's staff was a perfect Bishop St Nicholas (Sinterklaus). My impression is that the countries in Europe celebrate one or more of these days: Dec 5 or 6 for St Nicholas-- the Bishop who was kind to children and the poor; Dec 25-- celebration of God the Father's gift of his Son Jesus to mankind through the people of Israel and lastly Jan 6 when Jesus was manifested to the three kings (gentiles) who offered Jesus gifts. Europeans give gifts on these days in the Christian calendar. I am loving these presentations. Stephanie, please read the book on trademarks and protect your hard work & creativity with a good patent and trademark lawyer. God bless us everyone!

Awww what a lovely Sinterklaas celebration you all had! We celebrate the same way in Austria. "Nikolaus", as we call him, has nothing to do with Christmas - it is to honor the Greek bishop who cared for the poor and sick so many years ago.
In Austria, you put your shoes outside and clean them (just like in Germany) and you will find some sweets in them the next day. 💕 Then at night Sinterklaas comes to your house and reads something about everyone from a big book. 🥰 Everyone gets a litte bag full of nuts, oranges, sweets and a present. He has nothing to do with Christmas.

What a beautiful familial celebration this evening. It’s so incredibly moving that such a diverse and global group of people can come together and share their holiday celebrations with each other & 100,000 other people and make it so intimate and special. I was incredibly moved by tonight’s celebration. The robes are lovely. The Dutch Advent calendar is unique & beautiful. The cake seemed delicious. Because of Covid so many of us are alone for the holidays. I did not feel alone this evening. I felt the holiday spirit. Thank you. Happy & healthy holiday wishes to all Lalanders.
How did we get so lucky to have not one, but TWO Sinterklaases-one so dignified and jolly and the other so absolutely hysterically funny? What a complete and total joy to share this special day with the LaLande family🤗

This was so beautiful! Selmar in red robe, Bishop mitre (hat) and shepherd's staff was a perfect Bishop St Nicholas (Sinterklaus). My impression is that the countries in Europe celebrate one or more of these days: Dec 5 or 6 for St Nicholas-- the Bishop who was kind to children and the poor; Dec 25-- celebration of God the Father's gift of his Son Jesus to mankind through the people of Israel and lastly Jan 6 when Jesus was manifested to the three kings (gentiles) who offered Jesus gifts. Europeans give gifts on these days in the Christian calendar. I am loving these presentations. Stephanie, please read the book on trademarks and protect your hard work & creativity with a good patent and trademark lawyer. God bless us everyone!
