New York is the London of the new world, and Montreal is the Paris. I like to go back and forth between the two as I am a dual citizen of the US and Canada.
I am originally from New York City, but love Montreal more. What a fantastic city, and much cleaner than New York. I love the beautiful and delicious restaurants and museums. I love Old Montreal. I was last there in October, I can't wait to go back.
Nice to hear Janice, really enjoyed Montreal as well! We actually took a trip to Quebec city on this visit, and it was quite spectacular... Felt like you were in a completely different part of the world.
Hello Zzba Bazz, our stay wasn't too long in Montreal; probably around 48 hours, but we certainly made the most of the time there. 20,000 steps and 20,000 calories 😉
Hello again Tim...thanks again for letting us tag along on your adventure...everything looked amazing between the scenery and food 👍...be safe happy and always blessed 😘🤗💙
What’ an amazing. food tour of beautiful Montreal Thank you so much for our mention. Nick was so surprised. You truly are a warm wonderful kind person we look forward to seeing more of your food journey exploring new places
Dear Tim, I liked the whole story very much! It was sunny and optimistic. And Vegan too! One of the good reasons to visit and partake from the illustrious elegance of frankophonia of Canada!🐬🍇🐳
Thank you again! And much appreciate the suggestions! I missed the sandwich shop as timing didn't work out (ashame, because it was literally steps away). Ahh, always next time though🙂
Hi Tim great video Montreal looked great!! Food really looked delicious especially the Brazilian bbq restaurant. I'm going to Montreal after Christmas and checking out the places you recommended inthis video. And thank you for acknowledging me in this piece very much appreciated. Can't wait until you come back into the states my friend. Continue to stay safe. 😁😁
Hi Calvin, hope you have a blast in Montreal! I actually thought that Schwartz's maybe a bit of a touristy thing, but it was certainly worth it. Many people also suggested smoked meat Pete's also. If you get a chance, make sure you make a trip to Quebec city. We took the train out there during this trip and it was unforgettable.
Thank you very much for the video Tim. You are one of my favorite food vlog channel. I love how calm and relaxing the format of your videos are. 10/10 !
Hi Tim, I lived in Montreal for 24 years before moving to Toronto. At the 20 minute mark you said you were exploring St: Andrew’s Island and you were showing the picture of the US pavilion ( biosphere) form Expo 1967. If you were there, it’s actually St. Helené’s Island and La Ronde near it.
Ah, thank you so much! I was a little bit confused about the names on the websites and the maps. Thank you for this. We were having quite a fun time exploring the city, and actually made a trip to Quebec city also.
Great video Tim! Those smoked meat sandwiches at Schwartz's make my mouth water. Love the poutine at La Banquise but can never seem to quite finish it either. Across the street is another great place for poutine, Ma Poule Mouillee. The food is fabulous in Montreal and even though we were there 6 months, we still didn't get to try everything on our list haha.
Thanks Tom and Mike! Could definitely used your guide for sure and would have loved to visit Bonaparte. There were so many places to eat that it was quite difficult to decide; but the nice thing is that no matter what is chosen, the meals are always good. We only had about 2 days in Montreal but certainly enjoyed it. Hope you all are keeping well! All the best !
Ma Poule Mouillee is one of my favourite spots and my go-to for Portuguese chicken now that Romados is gone. Ate at Ma Poule twice when I was in Montréal last month.
I loved Montreal when I visited over 10 years ago. I won the weekend hotel stay at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth at an art auction and it was on a club floor. The club floor meant I had breakfast and evening hor d’oeuvres free which meant I only needed to buy lunch. I was on my own so I had a smoked meat sandwich everyday and the hor d’oeuvres were so plentiful I was too full to have a dinner. I spent all my money on art. Such fun! I tried the casino thing but couldn’t take the smoking. Lol. Glad you had a friend, it makes a difference.❤️
Oh, we passed by the Fairmont QE a few times! That must have been amazing; I can imagine how good those hor d'oeuvres must have been! (a friend of mine works at that Fairmont here in Vancouver and she did mention that). It's great to travel again and certainly nice to meet up with some friends to explore. Very fun and hope you get a chance to return 🙂
Hey Tim, thank you very much for this vid, it brings back all my memories of Montreal. I used to (and still do) like their viande fumée by Schwartz's, was studying in Montreal and did love that specialty at that very place. Gosh, I have goose pimples now. My gosh your 2 pounds poutine! So amazing. Thanks for the nice food, as always.
Hi Patrick, thank you again and it must have been amazing to live/study there! We didn't have much time (about 48 hours) so we certainly tried to make the most out of our time....somehow, the focus was more on eating than sightseeing 😉
As I can imagine, what an amazing culinary trip it must have been! Actually I haven’t been back to Montreal for quite a while and it’s definitely about time. 😁 so is this your first time visiting?
What a fun video, Tim!! I love a cup of quality coffee and a pastry (or two) for breakfast and what better lunch than a sandwich over-loaded with smoked meat? I have visited an all-you-can-eat Brazilian Churrascaria in Los Angeles and I love it! Perfect day, to be sure. I do have to admit you lost me with the poutine, but I guess when in Rome... Thanks again, Tim Eat well & be well my friend.
Thanks again Kim! The pastry was a surprisingly nice find! Definitely one of the best croissants I've had. That would be perfect in the morning or late at night 😃
Awesome that you went to Montreal. The food looks amazing, as does the scenery. I've never been to Montreal. My dad's parents & 3 of his older siblings came through Montreal, to get to Alberta, when they came from Eastern Europe, in the early 1900s. My late, maternal grandfather used to live and work in Montreal, after he was working in Chicago, after he came from Poland, in the early 1900s, before he went to Alberta. My roots go through there. I have to go there one day. Cheers, Tim! ✌️🇨🇦
Hi Dwayne, I do hope you get a chance to visit one day. It is a very unique beautiful city and I actually got a chance to visit Quebec City also. (If you do decide to go, be sure not to miss Quebec City). It was such a unique experience and absolutely felt like one was in the heart of Europe (or at least what I imagine what it would be). Thank you again and all the best!
First time I've honestly loved the look and review of a full on vegan restaurant:) It's so fun to see you fly to a new location for so many wonderful foodie experiences. Flying apposed to driving make eco sense. We just got back from a foodie trip to Gatlinburg and that Italian bakery reminded us of the "Donut Friar" in Tennessee, yummy. Thank you for this is a Fantastic Montréal foodie adventure😃 Best Wishes, James and Kim ❤
Hi James and Kim, gosh, Gatlinburg sounds fantastic and definitely a destination once travel is less restrictive. We certainly didn't expect it to be a vegan restaurant, but it was a very pleasant meal🙂
Rosetti's looked delicious. Those croissants looked like they were light and airy and crisp at the same time.French and Italian selections.Got to love Montreal! Such great food and culture.
Really enjoyed the pastries there, it was a nice find and we were just walking by... It's quite nice in Montreal as everywhere you go, there tends to be great places to eat ... Yes even the vegan places 😃
Hey Tim!!! Great video as always. Hats off for taking public transportation from downtown Montreal to Brossard. Next time you’re in town, you should try the Portuguese chicken “ Ma Poule Mouillée” across from “ La Banquise” keep up the good work.
Hi Yuanth, thank you for reaching out and giving that recommendation! Greatly appreciated, and the lady, Geraldine, who sat next to me on the plane also suggested the Portuguese chicken as well. Unfortunately I believe they were closed, and I had way too much food that day. I guess the only solution is another trip 😃
Schwartz's bring back memories for me, especially before the Dion family bought it. Some say the meat quality is not the same as it used to be. There are many other great food places. I used to go to Cosmo's All Day Breakfast. Cosmo died but his son carries on the tradition. The best item was the mish mash, with 12 eggs, peppers, onions, bacon and toast. I knew a McGill student who would order that each Saturday morning, and then have a cheeseburger chaser. The cheeseburger was good because it had meat going outside the bun. He would also have an order of fries, onion rings, two Cokes and a milkshake.
Wonderful video...You are certainly my favorite TH-cam channel, Tim... especially when you can make me want to go to that Vegan place. My wife will certainly like it. Might have to add Montreal to the list when I make my trip to the baseball hall of fame, in addition to Toronto for that Wagyu AYCE place.
Thank you boozwaa! Was certainly not expecting to go to a Vegan restaurant and was lead by a google search only paying attention to the ratings. It was a pleasant surprise for sure 😀. Since you're heading that way, make sure (if you have the time) to stop by Quebec City. It's an unreal place and feels like one has completely left North America. Very nice indeed. Thank you again!
When were you in Montreal? I know you didn't stay long enough because there are soooo many more iconic restaurants in my home town that you should visit. Great video Tim.
You are in such an amazing city Appolo P! Can't wait to go back and yeah, we weren't there for too long. We made a trip because one of our friends needed to visit the Russian Consulate and we thought we'd tag along. We were only there for about 48 hours and very much enjoyed it. Will need to book another trip soon 🙂
A good little tip for anyone coming to Montreal. To avoid the long line at Schwartz's go across the street and a block or two away to Le Main. They have the same food, it's just as good and there's plenty of seating. Also, Wilensky's sandwich is a perfect lunch spot and Fairmount bagels are sacred.
Awesome video Tim ! It's been 14 years since my last visit and I sure miss Montreal. That chocolate croissant 😍 the way you pronounce croissant got me curious..do you speak French Tim ? You should definitely check out Saint Joseph's Oratory on your next visit. I still don't know how you're able to eat that buffet after your sandwich from Schwartzs and still managed to grab a 2 pounds poutine 😳
Thanks David! Saint Joseph's Oratory was on the list but we were only there for about two days so couldn't really catch everything we wanted. It was a fantastic trip though 🙂. Language wise, we had to learn both French and English in school here in Canada; however, neither language I can speak well 🤦
Thanks Mel! I've had steamies here in Vancouver and was regretting not getting them in Montreal. Thank you so much for the suggestion... Checking Lafleur out
Brazilian meats at 27:23. These Brazilian steak restaurants usually have some signal you can use so you catch up on the meat, and ward off the meat servers.
MTL is a WORLD CLASS city, always at the top of my list of favorite places to visit. A city and people so full of life! So glad you were able to enjoy...and La Banquise is worth all of the hype!
Hi Bryan, it was definitely a very pleasant, memorable trip, and yes, as good as the food was, it was the people/spirit there that made it fun. Definitely worth the trip!
Hey Tim, food looks yummy. I think you're from Vancouver? I heard that there is massive flooding there and evacuations being done. I hope your well and my prayers for you & Vancouver
Hi Mendi, thank you so much for reaching out and yes, I'm from Vancouver. We're doing okay and there was quite a lot of rainfall in a very short span of a few days. We're doing well here and all floods have receded. In fact, we have had a nice sunny day today (and yesterday). But crazy weather patterns for sure! Thank you again!!!
Thank you so much for reaching out! We were taking public transit during this trip. We went all around the city and really enjoyed Montreal. After the bio dome I decided to head over to milsa and just took the bus.
New subscriber here! 🙋🏻♂️Love your videos!, Your YT channel is very underrated! Hope you can try Jollibee in Vancouver/Surrey once they open or if they will open.. 🤷🏻♂️..lol
Hi Arvin, thank you so much for reaching out and for your kind comment. Just having some fun with the videos here and really enjoy the interaction in this TH-cam community. My goodness! Jollibee has been teasing us for years and years! That coming soon sign has been there for ages! 😆
watching an older one again what a nice food tour of the city you may have found out that Brazilllian "pico de gallo" is "Brazilian Vinaigrette" looks similar slight flavor changes and ingredients the liquid in PIco is probably going to be lime juice in the Brazilian Vinaigrette it's vinegar and a neutral oil of one type or another also parsley in the Brazilian Vinaigrette cilantro in the Pico and possibly jalapeno...oh man that's a lot of poutine to end the day
You want iconic food from Montréal and around it? Go to St Hubert, big chain restaurant that everyone in the region knows and loves but unknown. Outside of french Canada.
Great show. That smoked meat sandwich looked identical to a Jewish salt beef sandwich, right down to the pickle and mustard. Was it a salt beef sandwich?
For your next trip to Montréal may I suggest Chef Paul Toussaint's Restaurant Kamúy-- a Caribbean restaurant in Les Quartiers Spectacles/Downtown (rue Jeanne-Mance.)He was previously the chef at Agrikol, the Haitian restaurant owned by Win Butler and Régine Chassagne of Arcade Fire that was a casualty of the pandemic.
Thanks so much for reaching out craig! Really appreciate the recommendation and the background to kamuy! Just saw a few pictures and it looks amazing! And such a unique space as well 😃. Hopefully we'll get a chance to go back and they will allow pictures and videos to be taken during dinner.
Tim, I'm not a vegan but love plant based foods. The AYCE brazillian food looked great (haven't had that in years but there are a few places here if you ever visit).
Yeah, not vegan/vegetarian here as well😉...but loved the food🙂. First time for the smoked meat sandwich and very enjoyable and can't really go wrong with the ayce😉
Schwartz's at 15:51. When the writer Mordecai Richler's kids were younger, he would bribe them to go fetch him smoked meat sandwiches from Schwartz's. He would call the order ahead and off the kid would go with the cash in a cab. The kid would pay for the order and bring back the same order each time. Mordecai would eat two Montreal Smoked Meat sandwiches, medium fat and an order of kosher dill pickles. The lucky kid who volunteered to picked up the goods got themselves the third smoked meat sandwich, medium fat of course.
Hi Tim, this vegan restaurant looked really good 🤯 !!! I'm not a fan of all this fake meats bc I believe that they (the vegans) wanted to quit meats that's why they are vegan 💯🤷🏼♀️! This burger looked stuning, I would love to try it and I'm not a big burger type of person normally! Greetings from Germany 👋❤️
Warmest greetings from Vancouver 🙂. We were certainly not anticipating to go to a vegan restaurant, but it was very pleasantly surprised. Agreed, it's quite nice when they don't try to pretend to offer any meat alternatives and just prepare the ingredients as they are. Hope you're keeping well in Germany and all the best to you 😃
Hi Tim, we have two brazilian restaurants here in Michigan. Gauchos & Texas De Brazil Delicious 🥰🤤😋🥰🤤😋! Also, head over to Ann Arbor Michigan and check out some of their amazing restaurants. Zingerman's,is outstanding 🥰🤤😋🥰🤤😋🥰🤤😋!
So happy that you came to visit my city!! ❤ Glad you had a great time!! Yes...smoked meat & a poutine are a must to try in Montreal...but you forgot to try our bagels!!! 😋 Two well known establishments are St-Viateur bagel and Fairmount bagel. Maybe next time🤗
You live in such an amazing city and yes, definitely planning a trip to go back! We were there for a little under two days and there were so much more we wanted to try!
Milsa is ok but not fantastic. La Banquise is nearly unbeatable (see later). Same for Schwartz. On your next trip, you have try Blackstrap BBQ who serve award winning Southern Smokehouse grub that'll blow you away. They also have have a Burnt ends poutine, which is poutine with burnt ends and the gravy is made from the smoker's drip pan... It is INSANE. Then a bit off the island is Smoke Meat Pete. Smoked meat like Schwartz but it's kicked up a notch. Then there's Dinette Triple Crown where they serve Kentucky grub, made by a chef from Kentucky. Best fried chicken ever. Best hush puppies ever, best pigtails... Oh and freshly squeezed lemonade per order.
Another great video, Tim! Montreal is such a beautiful place with so many yummy places to eat! I live in the US and wish I could visit there and other places in Canada someday.
Hi Sally, if you do go, make sure to take a short train ride over to Quebec City. You'll feel like you've left North America and transported to France! Thank you again and all the best!
Mustard at 19:23. I thought I had seen everything at Schwartz's. Then one day I saw a guy request a bowl of mustard. He proceeded to dunk his entire sandwich in the bowl of mustard.
Tim, I enjoy ALL of your food videos. I am presently recovering from back surgery so for now I'm home bound 24/7 but do enjoy viewing all of you food reviews. One helpful hint might be if you were to mention the cost of your meals that would be helpful. I am a long time subscriber and your channel is the best. Thank You.
Thank you so much for reaching out and hope your recovering well. Also much appreciate your suggestion. I do try to put the prices in the video, but for this trip I kind of lost track with all the restaurants. This was a fun problem to have 😉
Yeah, I might have overdid it. Our friends came in late that evening and we ended up going to Boustan also... Way too much food but since we weren't there for too long, we certainly took advantage of the time there 🙂
Your friend took you to Lola and didn't even know it was a vegan join. Even when you told him he was like "no way" hahaha. Unfriend the guy. I don't trust those kinds of people. ☺️ On the side note your channel is great. Keep up the good work
You have the perfect personality for a TH-cam show host. Thanks for making us feel welcome Tim.
Thank you so much for your kind comment, just really having fun here 🙂
New York is the London of the new world, and Montreal is the Paris. I like to go back and forth between the two as I am a dual citizen of the US and Canada.
Really ? Have you ever heard a person that spent $ 10 to $15 on a piece of pie say oh good it's not too big ? So why are you saying this comment?
We used to drive up from Toronto on a Friday after work and first stop was always La Banquise. Ahhhh the delicious memories! Glad you enjoyed it too!
Thank you Tim you are the best.......

Hi Tim watching a day late 😏 that second deli Schwartz looked so good..see you on your next adventure 😃
Thank you Pat... that was a great sandwich 😋
Stunning place. ✨✌️💜🙏
how delightful is Montreal? and those teeny little cakes! 😍 ❤
Those pastries were quite good and love the fact that they were small 😋

Hello from a fellow Canadian living in Orange County, CA. Love your videos, so positive all the time.

Looks good. The food reminds me of Planta in the USA.
I got to look up planta 🙏
@@TimLeeLetsGo cool.
A good little tip for anyone coming to Montreal. To avoid the long line at Schwartz's go across the street and a block or two away to Le Main. They have the same food, it's just as good and there's plenty of seating. Also, Wilensky's sandwich is a perfect lunch spot and Fairmount bagels are sacred.
the main just closed.
wow, Le Milsa is on Taschereau on the south shore...I didn't know there was a famous restaurant in my neighbourhood!
Hopefully these place remain open and make it through.... it was quite enjoyable and really loving Montreal!
@@TimLeeLetsGo Right on, there is so much to see here and even the south shore has it's charms. Then of course there is Quebec city!
Tim - I think you would really enjoy the beef restaurants in Argentina. The cuts of meat are spectacular and very reasonable compared to Canada.
I fi st tasted Argentinian beef in Aruba, greatest.
Bienvenu à Montréal!⚜️🧑🍳
You have such an amazing city!
Language wise, we had to learn both French and English in school here in Canada; however, neither language I can speak well 🤦
What about Chinatown? lovely Dim Sum and roast Duck, Next tme
Did you try Lafleur's? A steamie at the very least? Awesome vid Tim! TYFS
Thanks Mel! I've had steamies here in Vancouver and was regretting not getting them in Montreal. Thank you so much for the suggestion... Checking Lafleur out
Oh, just saw lafleur's ... Totally my type of place 😋😋😋
@@TimLeeLetsGo full steamie ahead then Tim ! Full pun intended!
Brazilian meats at 27:23. These Brazilian steak restaurants usually have some signal you can use so you catch up on the meat, and ward off the meat servers.
Yes, they were definitely missing that all important signal. Like driving without breaks!
Nice choices! Excellent video as always. How did you get to Brossard (for Milsa)?
Thank you so much for reaching out! We were taking public transit during this trip. We went all around the city and really enjoyed Montreal. After the bio dome I decided to head over to milsa and just took the bus.
Tim eats VEGAN!😲😲 WHAT? LOL.You even enjoyed it.It looked delicious.Glad even a meat eater like you was open to trying it.Great place.
Omgosh I just adore your friend Rashad I just wanna squeeze his (facial) cheeks 😆☺️🤗
Hope ya swing by in Ottawa for a few samplers..
Thanks Omar! Definitely hoping to visit our capital one day... I wonder if there's ice skating on the cannel at this time 🙂
@@TimLeeLetsGo yesterday morning was first day of snow; however, we have plenty of nice restaurants around worthy of reviews!
WHEN IT COMES TO ICONIC GREAT FOODS NO OTHER PLACE CAN BOAST OF, SMOKED MEAT POUTINE, BAGELS. WE'RE VERY LUCKY AND NEVER TAKE THESE FOR GRANTED!!
THE FOOD LOOKED FANTASTIC THANKS
Thank you Linda 😃
Thanks for visiting my city of Montreal. Do you love buffets for the amount of food tou can eat? I notice most of your content is on buffets
watching an older one again what a nice food tour of the city you may have found out that Brazilllian "pico de gallo" is "Brazilian Vinaigrette" looks similar slight flavor changes and ingredients the liquid in PIco is probably going to be lime juice in the Brazilian Vinaigrette it's vinegar and a neutral oil of one type or another also parsley in the Brazilian Vinaigrette cilantro in the Pico and possibly jalapeno...oh man that's a lot of poutine to end the day
It was a great day in Montreal… And yeah, I was feeling that poutine the next morning
That vegan food looks soooo good!
Was pleasantly surprised and glad we got a chance to try it😋
You want iconic food from Montréal and around it? Go to St Hubert, big chain restaurant that everyone in the region knows and loves but unknown. Outside of french Canada.
Maybe the most iconic food in Montreal is "steamies" (steamed hot-dogs) and fries. If you haven't had that you haven't fully experienced Montreal.
Ohh, the original UberEats!
I have been enjoying medium fat since the sixties.
Hope you're keeping well in Germany and all the best to you 😃
You couldn't find a deli in Vancouver? What about Omnitsky's Deli on Oak Street? Or all the wonderful delis on Commercial Drive?
I concur! Try Omnitsky's if you haven't already! Maybe you went when it was Kaplan's?
Next time instead of Schwartz, go to Deli Snowdon, and instead of La Banquise, go to the place in front , Ma Poule Mouillé ;)
Did you get a chance to check out the Aura light show at the Basilica?
Hi Tim,
we have two brazilian restaurants here in Michigan.
Gauchos & Texas De Brazil
Delicious 🥰🤤😋🥰🤤😋!
Also, head over to Ann Arbor Michigan and check out some of their amazing restaurants.
Zingerman's,is outstanding
🥰🤤😋🥰🤤😋🥰🤤😋!
Come try Rochester plates
Thank you Aiden... very curious, what is a Rochester plates?
Mustard at 19:23. I thought I had seen everything at Schwartz's. Then one day I saw a guy request a bowl of mustard. He proceeded to dunk his entire sandwich in the bowl of mustard.
🙂
When did you go there? Looks like Le milsa was permanently closed. 😔
Our trip was probably in late october, and was really surprised that le milsa closed down. Really enjoyed it and they were really busy at the time.
This was a fun problem to have 😉
After Milsa, then you went banquise on the same night?
Yeah, I might have overdid it. Our friends came in late that evening and we ended up going to Boustan also... Way too much food but since we weren't there for too long, we certainly took advantage of the time there 🙂

What size was that Schwartz sandwich? Or is there just one size?
I think there's only one size to the sandwich. I made sure to ask for the fattier cut of meat though.
Your friend took you to Lola and didn't even know it was a vegan join. Even when you told him he was like "no way" hahaha. Unfriend the guy. I don't trust those kinds of people. ☺️ On the side note your channel is great. Keep up the good work
LoL... Rishad was just as surprised as I was...but all worked out in the end 😆
