    Great tips. Any owners of vehicle with both sunroof and roof racks really need to be vigilant. I carried item with sand, it. clogged my drains, leaked and ruined my car. It now has costly electrical damage. Few dealers ever educate customers how to care for sunroof.

    I cleaned him with a 2 ft length of weed-whip line and a cordless drill. Place the line into the drain tube, and spin the line slowly with your drill. Once completed, then use warm soapy water to clean and check the draining ability.

    Thank you! Both cars my brother had with sunroofs ended up having a paracitic draw he thought might have been caused by the leaking sunroof, but I really want a sunroof in my car so I wanna make sure I take care of mine as best I can.

    Excellent,,, just had my first 'leak' in a rain storm... thought it didn't close all the way. Not the case,, happened a 2d time. Ran a length of weed whacker line down one drain,,,pouring rain today,,so far so good! But how do you get to the two back drains?

    • @YamarajaDasaAlcyone
      @YamarajaDasaAlcyone 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Tina Evans Great idea using the weed whacker line. I've been trying to figure out what to use apart from warm soapy water. Thank you. As for the back two drains, I'm not sure. You could try feeding the weed whacker line in from the bottom rather than the top? I guess it depends on how easy it is to access on the car you have. Maybe you might even have to remove the bolts holding the sunroof and then carefully lift the roof off (there's heaps of videos on how to do it) and then you have clear access.

    • @YamarajaDasaAlcyone
      @YamarajaDasaAlcyone 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Tina Evans Today I took the back corner trim off slightly and lowered the roof trim to get access to the rear two drainage hoses. cleaned them out real easy from there. only had to remove a few screws and then carefully pry the trim away to do all of this. If your uncertain, maybe download a service manual for your car. It tells you exactly what steps to follow to do all of this.

    No matter what I did to clean my 09 Nissan Maxima wish is the worse of the worse when it comes to sunroof it dint work.So I just took sealer and sealed it up no more leaks.

    • @christins.1481
      @christins.1481 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What type of sealer did you use?
      I've never liked sunroofs because of this, but my other car falling apart called for us to get "newer" model which turned up having one.
      I see the water dripping inside with a test out from.the water hose and don't like it. I want to seal it all together.

    Hello Karen. Most vehicles do use the same basic system for draining the sunroof area. Other areas must also be checked for leaking like the A/C drain and windshield.

    Can this cause the carpeted floor behind the drivers and passengers seats to accumulate with water? I just purchased a 2nd hand Subaru Forester 2007 from a dealership and after very slight rain, I noticed the back floor on both sides was wet on the mat and underneath the mats. I let it dry in the sun over a few hours. I then went for a 10 min drive and they were wet again. It hadn't rained though so I'm a bit confused. Can you make any sense of this?

    Great tips, my issue is that the rubber around the glass has a seam in the back side that I noticed allows a small amount of water in when I go through the car wash, or in a heavy rain. Trying to figure out how to remedy that without replacing the rubber or the whole pane of glass. Thought about using a minute amount of silicone caulk in that tiny crack to keep water out?

    How often should I do this? Like every few months? The problem with me getting a car with a sunroof is that I live under a big oak tree, and I had a problem with a Toyota Camry a while ago, where the sunroof leaked. We never cleaned out the drains like in their video, but I would like to avoid that problem again. I guess the tree was the main problem with the drains clogging, but we never left the sunroof open, idk. Any suggestions?

    • @proctorcars
      @proctorcars  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheTechFreak,
      We recommend cleaning the drains out every couple of months, especially if you park your car in a place where debris falls onto to the top of the car often.
      Hope this helps!

    Both of my 2008 buick enclave drains were clogged. Cleaned them out and that slowed my passenger side leak but still had some water dripping from overhead panel especially when parked with car parked left side low. I found that the left rear sheet metal has an area about 4 inches long just below the sunroof seal that doesn't allow water leaking past the seal to drop into the left side drain trough but to flow on to a ledge about 3/8 inch wide. I poured water onto that ledge and some flowed the opposite direction of the trough and dripped onto the seat. I have put some sealent in that area and am awaiting a big rain for test.

    • @jnbfrancisco
      @jnbfrancisco 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My mistake. Leaking is on the right side (passenger ).

    I have a 2005 Camry. I can't for the life of me find the drain holes in the moon roof. When I retract the roof, there is maybe 2-3 ozs of water in the trough. I have no wet issues anywhere in the car except the drivers side carpet. If the moon roof drains were clogged, would I just be seeing it only in the carpet? Or should I be looking elsewhere? The headliner is perfectly dry.

    Water is going down the right drain ok but is leaking in through a plastic box clamp in lower wall on front passenger side (forward of the door). What is causing the water to come in here? I have narrowed it to the sunroof drain and can see it coming in through the clamp.

  • @-badkarma--1562
    @-badkarma--1562 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Soapy water after it dries becomes STICKY and traps MORE stuff! Use warm water only and a small 3/8 inch brush on a flexible handle. If you do decide to take the easy way out ensure your compressor output is not more than 1 LB per squared inch. It'r really better to use that air in a can that is used to clean computer keyboards ass it has a lower pressure.

      Oh yeah I have T Tops on my 300 ZX and never really used them but one time. They leaked anyway, right where the T top seal meets the chassis seal. Used some vacuum grease (silicone grease) leberally all the way around the seals and it hasn't leaked for 25 years ....
