Today I will show you how I repaired my windshield that was leaking into my car. When it rained we would get a bunch of water into the bottom of our car by our feet. We placed a little product to close up the leak in our windshield. If you have any questions, leave comments below and we would love to answer them. This is the best video by far to clearly, accurately, easily show anyone how to fix a leaking windshield using the exact same product being used in this video .... I followed exactly what he shows he's doing on a 1999 F350 diesel truck that had a loose seal along topside of windshield.... Cleaned it out thoroughly, dried it thoroughly and put this product in with original seal and let cure overnight and has been absolutely fine ever since
I really appreciate your diagnosis and proof.
Recommend masking the areas you don’t want the sealant to cover with yellow frog tape. This will allow you to push the sealant into the gaps more aggressively and tool it to a smooth finish. Immediately remove the tape before the sealant skins over.

Thanks my leak is in exactly the same place ,just ordered same sealant of eBay. :)
Thanks so much for the comment. Best of luck with your repair. Please give us an update when you’re finished. Our windshield still does not leak almost two years later.
@@BigAl-1 did you mean it is STILL leaking or NOT leaking after two years
@@EHill-xz6fnThanks for bringing the error to my attention. It is not leaking. Best of luck with all of your projects.

My Altima leaked on the driver side. i sealed it the same as you did. I hope it fixed it.
I hope so too! Let us know how it worked for you. THanks!
Please let us know how it turned out.
@@BigAl-1 It did not fix it. I have to try something else.
Thankful for you sharing your experiences, sir. Subscribed
Thank you so much! You are awesome
You could try making the tip flat with pliers. And the glue will get in with ease
Thanks for the suggestion. I will have to try it next time. Best of luck with your next DIY project and hopefully you will subscribe to Big Al Repairs.
Great idea
@@prometheus1901Thanks for your comment.
. Hey is it leaking now?
My impalas giving me the same problem, I’m gonna try this too. It’s always coming from that little corner by the windshield and in Ohio we’re getting pounded with rain
Thanks for the comment. Best of luck with your project and please keep us updated. Thanks again and hopefully you will subscribe to Big Al Repairs.
So how did it go?
Hey guys, it went great! I put plenty of the sealant on, and even tried the jug of water trick as an experiment and it worked like a charm! Now my electronics won’t prevent me from starting the car, cheers 🍻
@@andydufresnefromshawshank5866Thanks for your question.

Impala doing the same thing, but not the windshield I’m assuming from the sunroof . Waters coming from the comfort light

Sir I’m
Going to try , thank you so much

Great content thanks
If you wanted to look like crap in about a month down the road due to weather conditions.
Needs to be in caulk gun so you can force it in small areas. That probably won't work or last very long.
Thanks for the suggestion. Luckily it has been holding strong for almost 1 year.
@BigAl-1 I just made a big mistake. Leak in truck and I found some permatex flowable silicone still in package, in garage.
I knew about expiration with this kind of stuff but used it anyways.
So after 3 days it was still tacky.
Looked up date code and it expired in 2007
Mine is leaking in cabinet filter. Unto floor board . I had windshield but in about a year ago . I don't think windshield is sealed right . Need some information on what may be causing this . I had someone check to see if stoped up . But it's good that way.
Similar problem. Water coming in at the bottom of the windshield. I assume the same fix would apply? Did you get yours to stop.
My passenger floor was getting wet. It was clogged drains in the engine bay. Found a great video, cleared the clog, and all good now.
Thank you

Take a thin wood coffee mixer and tool it down into the windshield gasket groove seal 😜
That is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.

Nice!

Best to go ahead and have the windshield removed cleaned and resealed. Can get through the smallest of spaces and before you know it, you’ve went around the whole windshield and it still leaks.
Thanks so much for the suggestion. That is always an option. We were trying to save a few dollars. Best of luck with your next DIY project and hopefully you subscribe to Big Al Repairs.
Remember when you poured water at the bottom off the windshield you will never find leak down there because water can never travel up. If you have water inside the car when you do that, that means your drain hole is clogged.
Timothy, Thanks so much for the information. Best of luck with your next DIY project and hopefully you will subscribe to BIG Al Repairs.
How much is that roughly for normal brand cars
It depends on what kind of car you have. I paid around $400 for the last windshield that I had replaced.
did you do this on a chevy because it happen on mine chevy lol
No, I have not done this on a Chevrolet. I’ve only had a leak one time and it was this with this Honda Civic. Great question and thanks for asking and hopefully you subscribe to big Al repairs.
Mine is licking right now. Which glue is that ?😊
Same exact issue with me 13 civichad the windshield replaced by safelite because insurance covered it, about 5-6 months later i noticed the carpet was soaked, turns out it is leaking in the top corner of the inside seams above the headliner. Safelite tested it twice and said it wasnt the windshield but im not buying it, im taking it to a mom and pop auto glass shop to have the pull the glass and re seal it, i also was thinking it was the seam sealer in the roof channels but it still leaks
Thanks so much for sharing your experience. It sounds like you have the same problem that I had. Best of luck and please give us an update. I’m curious how much they will charge to re-seal your windshield. Hopefully you subscribe to Big Repairs.
@@BigAl-1 well ended up fixing it myself, used seam sealer instead of silicone this time, had to put two layers on along the top corner of the windshield and about an inch down the down of the windshield
@@UncyPuckyGreat job! Thanks for the update. I hope it works out well. Have a great day.
No cleaning before you apply the sealant ??!😮😮
That is a great question. I should have mentioned that at the beginning of the video to make sure that the area is clean. I did rinse the area but it would be good to take the vehicle to the car wash and spray it off especially around the windshield when you have determined that is the problem. You should rinse it real well and then make sure that the windshield is completely dry before you add the sealant. Thanks so much for your question. Best of luck with your next DIY project and hopefully you will subscribe to Big Al Repairs.
@@BigAl-1I would wipe it down with rubing alcohol, get in the channel with Q-tip if possible
would this work for a decent sized gap in the front part where you first poured water in the beginning of the video? mine has a pretty big gap where the rubber lining has separated revealing the edge of the glass
Great question! You should probably use a different method to fix a large gap. Please give us an update. Thanks again and hopefully you will subscribe to Big Al Repairs.
Try regular silicone
Is this a 2012-1013 civic? Trying to diagnose my wet floorboards

@@BigAl-1 it was a combination of a windshield leak and AC
@@darienmead9667Thanks for the update. We’re you able to fix the problem? Best of luck with your next DIY project.
@@BigAl-1 my car is dry for sure. Still have VSA and power steering lights on. I believe water was dripping on EPS module. Thanks
@@darienmead9667 That is too bad that the lights turned on. Hopefully you can get that issue resolved.
Why would a windshield be leaking like that?!
thanks
Because the windshield in this car was changed at some point and proper installation methods weren’t followed causing the bond to not correctly adhere between the glass, urethane and body. They likely didn’t clean, prep or prime. This is why you should always choose a certified auto glass shop, make sure and read their reviews. I’m an auto glass shop owner/operator and fix hack work like this everyday. I do thousands of cars a year and none of my installations leak.
Thank you for sharing this was super helpful!!
It could also be a dried out seal to, it’s not always because of a windshield change. We had it happen to our factory windshield.
Man you doing it all wrong and making it look like crap after awhile. Proper way to do it is remove the inside pillars and cock urethane along the seal and pressed it in and smooth it out with your finger.
👍
Thanks!
If you do this to your vehicle and bring it into any larger glass replacement shop in the future they will not touch your window. do this at your own risk. But my shop will turn you away
Interesting. Maybe you can explain why the windshield leaked. Poor installation?
@@BigAl-1 poorly cleaned or primed pinchweld or polyurethane bed where the installer applied adhesive, rust, natural separation due to adhesive or primer failure from factory install.
@@Boinksthanks for the update.
Just call a professional auto glass guy that will fix it the correct way. This is a temporary fix at best.
This saved us over $100 and worked great until we could get a new windshield. Thanks for the comment
Water intrusion and the condensation that will follow will cost a LOT more. Electrical damage being a prime danger!
