Pratt& Whitney F100 engines, as older F‐16s too I go to Nellis AFB and at perimeter gate on landings overhead you hear intermittent whiz and short bursts of roar from throttle adjustment especially landing in crosswind days.
I'm shocked at just how loud that sound is. I can't count the number of times I've heard that sound over the sound of the engines as SJ F15Es are on approach to land.
I'm a 35 year retired USAF Chief that started out with F-15s in 1976. I must say that Red, White and Blue paint job is the best I've ever seen...Well Done !!!

I too grew up by the airport and can remember the 106’s being the main jet. I was lucky enough to go on a field trip in elementary school to the ANG. Got to sit in the flight trainer/simulator and cockpit of the 106.
Fantastic! I really miss the C/D family here in the U.K. . We have E’s here but the fighter version is my favourite and way cooler IMHO, thanks for posting 👍🏻😎
What a great looking Eagle and love the sound coming across my sound system. I've saved this video on YT so that I can go back to it from time to time. I'm an old crew dawg. Crewed, worked back shop, and depot. Thank you for sharing this!!!
I did my highschool years at SJAFB, the home of 3 F-15E squarons. I can still remember hearing the moan of the engine startups and the nozzel acuators echoing in the distance. Whan an awesome time.
Such a great video! I can't get enough of that starter sound. When you hear that at RAF Lakenheath in England you know you better dust off your camera... and that special scheme 😱 Great share 👍
When I was 19 years old in the summer of 1973 I was very lucky to get a summer job at the McDonnell Aircraft plant in St Louis with a minor function on the first blocks of the then-new F-15. Hard to believe that an aircraft model that I worked with 50 years ago is still being used today
Fantastic video, Spencer!! Love the startup sound of the F-15, and i love that beautiful America flag painted F-15! Definitely something on my list to catch someday!
I lived right next to the airport as a kid I loved seeing them takeoff. I got to meet 2 pilots when I was 9 and to this day it inspired me to fly and I am know a pilot
My uncle Jack piloted the F4 phantom in Vietnam when I was a kid, I was in awe, these pilots we have are the best trained pilots in the world, and this airplane is such a beauty, thank you to all who serve this great country. 🇺🇸🙏
5113 used to belong to the 60th. When I knew her she was a warplane. With oily footprints on her back and sand in the cockpit. I soldered the wiring for new video recorders upside down with my head between the pedals sweat dripping off my neck. Did the band 3 upgrade. Her sisters are in other guard units now. I've seen a few in the 103rd.
F-15EX-3 and EX-4 were delivered to USAF just before Christmas. These 2 EX birds are the first F-15EX specifically built US usage. 100-200 EXs with and without Conformal Fuel Tanks will help to retire some highly houred light gray C/Ds and some dark gray STrike Eagles.
Where I work at RAF Lakenheath, I see and hear the start sequence every day, never tire of it. Will be sad to see them go as they are replaced by the 35’s. As for “quick climb Fridays”, when people ask me why, I say because they can 😂
I noticed one of the jets had a really sick design and I was wondering how it would do in combat with that kind of design. I love it though, unless they change the paint job once it gets ready for combat.
F-14 first flew in 1970 and the F-15 in 1972 so yes they came out around the same time but Navy jets wear out fast because they often fly over the ocean with all the salt water air, they take hard hits when landing on carriers. Also F-14's required about 40 hours of maintenance on the ground for every hour they were in the air. F-15's don't fly over the ocean as much, they never land on carriers and only about 12 hours of maintenance for every hour they're in the air. That's just 3 reasons and I'm sure there are more. I miss the F-14. Saw it many times as a kid. My all-time favorite plane.
Sounds like an onboard electric starter? Then once the primary engine is lit, it sounds like it diverts bypass air to the second engine to start it? Someone let me know if I'm right, it sure sounded that way.
Jet fuel starter…turns the gear box on the engine. Then repeats for the other engine…I copied a detailed description below. The F-15 uses a smaller jet engine, that is mounted to a gearbox, through a bulkhead, situated between the engines. The smaller Jet engine, is known as the JFS, or Jet Fuel Starter. The gearbox is called the CGB, or,Central Gear Box. Other components related to the starting of aircraft engines, are the JFS bottle(of which there are 2), the AMAD, or Airframe Mounted Accessory Drive, and the PTO(Power Take Off) shaft. The Bottles are filled with hydraulic fluid, that is put under pressure, by nitrogen pumped into the apparatus. They are connected to a T-handle, in the cockpit. The AMADs are mounted on bulkheads, directly in front of the engines, and are mated through the bulkhead, with the PTO shaft. On engine start, the pilot turns on the starter switch, to energize the system, and pulls the T-handle, forcing the pressurized hydraulic fluid through the CGB, to spin the JFS. Fuel is routed to the JFS, and an igniter fires the engine. Once operational, the JFS then spins the gearbox. On the throttle are 2 finger lift switches, designated for each engine. Lifting the switch extends a shaft, from the gearbox, to a coupler on the AMAD, called a pawl carrier. This spins the gears inside the AMAD, which then spins the PTO shaft, and in turn, the engine. Once the combustion section of the engine fires up, the pawl carrier disconnects Pilot pulls the finger lift on the unstarted engine, and the process repeats. The JFS cuts off automatically after both engines have started.
Most Air National Guard operate out of civilian airports, and Hickam AFB in Hawaii shares runways with Honolulu International Airport. The 144th is Ca ANG.
It’s called EOR…end of runway. There are crew chiefs and weapons guys down there that give a last look, shake things down and pull the pins. Did it for 6 years. You don’t have “unsafe” munitions on the flight line where they park. Inert or not, they are treated as live. SOP. The tanks have impulse carts (cartridges) in them so the pilot can drop them if need be…and they are explosive..that’s why those are pinned.
4:04 I wonder how long it took to paint the plane and the drop tanks like that. Also what's the load-out on these jets? I see the drop tanks, what I assume are a pair of Amraams, a Sidewinder and then something on the starboard pylon that I can't identify. Unless my tired eyes are messing with me that is.
That plane has no Aim-9’s on it…I was a weapons troop in the USAF and see no Aim-9’s…curious to know why they didn’t put the canards on the 120’s…inert or not, we always put them on after we loaded them.
If you zoom in at 3:01 you can just make at an AIM-9. What is the point of the AIM-120’s without the fins? Saving a step on having them ready for action on the non-alert aircraft maybe? 🤷🏻♂️

Same
Pratt& Whitney F100 engines, as older F‐16s too

Yeah it's great
Agreed
I'm shocked at just how loud that sound is. I can't count the number of times I've heard that sound over the sound of the engines as SJ F15Es are on approach to land.
Wow. Stars and Stripes eagle is something else.
This is one of the best F-15 videos I’ve seen. Well done! Love the red, white and blue Eagle
I love seeing the 144th getting some love here!!

Kudos to all the great engineers that designed and built this Iconic aircraft in the 70's
Great upload spencer and nice to see some former Lakenheath F15C’s still flying

Best looking plane in the fleet!!
Awesome they let you inside to film the engine starts that close. 4:02 neat seeing the intake move position on that wicked paint job
I grew up right next to the Fresno airport and watched F-4 Phantoms (with the smoke trail) and then F-16's. Now the F-15 are even better.
I grew up in the flight path of Fresno Airport. I definitely remember F-102's, and my earliest memories 'might' be F-86's.
I too grew up by the airport and can remember the 106’s being the main jet. I was lucky enough to go on a field trip in elementary school to the ANG. Got to sit in the flight trainer/simulator and cockpit of the 106.

What a great design, 39 year old jet and it still dominates its foe

Thank you much for this! Thoroughly enjoyed. Keep up the good work. 🤙

The jet painted with the stars and stripes is freaking beautiful
That F-15 with the American flag livery is the most patriotic F-15 of all time 🇺🇸
With the retirement of the legendary F-15C looming we'll probably see plenty of bright liveries to commemorate the type
I honestly think it’s ugly, I argue the USAF Thunderbirds F-16s are the most patriotic fighters in the U.S..
Enjoy it while it lasts! They’ll have rainbow 🌈 f-35’s out soon!
Impeccable footage, Spencer!!
This is great! Saw them flyover the other day and loved the Stars & Stripes livery.
Luv the sound! Great footage 🎉🎉🎉
Always awesome having military aircraft stationed at civilian air fields.
85-113 is quite impressive 🇺🇸
A/C 113 has an awesome paint scheme. Wish more aircraft had similar ones.
One of the best paint jobs Ive seen on a fighter.
Absolutly Awesome!!!!!!
that Stars and Stripes paint job is so cool!

Why does the air intake pivot down at 1:35?
Reduce or increase the volume of air depending on speed and angle of attack.

Anyone see the (REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT) flag left on the stars and stripes when taking off?
They pull them at EOR…end of runway. I used to do that.
Wow, that's some guy's job...
Somebody has to do it.
I never noticed that the intakes on the f15 move to different configurations before. She's a pretty close second to the f-14 I guess.
They move to slow down the air to subsonic speed when the jet goes supersonic. Jet engines cannot ingest sonic and supersonic air.
how is it that we retire the F-14 but yet we still keep the F-15 around didn't they both get built around the late 70's
F-14 first flew in 1970 and the F-15 in 1972 so yes they came out around the same time but Navy jets wear out fast because they often fly over the ocean with all the salt water air, they take hard hits when landing on carriers. why do the engine inlets go up and down?
Airflow scheduling to the fan section. Airflow must be subsonic to prevent compressor stall.
Still there after landing
