I was just reading some of the comments on this video and noticed quite a few complaints about the roku remote. May I suggest doing a video on installing and using Roku’s phone apps. Looks like quite a few people don’t know about them. Quite frankly, I prefer them over the physical remote.
Remember when you didn't have to answer which family member profile was using the system or app? Or app within an app? For a time recently,..I was answering three of them just to watch the 5 o'clock news. Three or four minutes to get to the station and by then the lead story is over. All you can do is arrive early. I feel like the world's biggest dope! All of the profiles are for your convenience of course. 🙄
@robdavidson993 I miss the days when TV was free, and you could buy a TV, plug it in ANYWHERE, and it just worked. NO payment plans. NO subscriptions. NO customer service reps to deal with.

Why would turning off “personalize ads” automatically mean they still don’t collect the same data? Is not “do not collect personal data”. It just means they won’t use it to select which ads you get. It doesn’t mean data isn’t collected any differently. But ty for a heads up in the opt out of sections.
Also - you can't personalize (block certain ads like politics, sexual content,...) with personalize switched off. If you go back in and turn personalize off then filter ad types it won't let you.
I disconnected my Roku TV from the Internet months ago, after they pulled the "accept the terms or buy a new TV" bit. It works fine as a computer monitor, and I stream off the computer.
@@leighklingler2195 I used the app that controls my WiFi router. I turned on parental controls, and then paused the Internet to the TV. Problem solved.
The only problem I have had with Roku is how the remote works. But I only have problems with the TVL tvs that are already set up For Roku. The tvs where I used the plug in thing the remotes work fine. I’m going to have to read the transcript for this video. Being from Alabama I couldn’t keep up with your fast to me talking. I think you have some great information. I’m not a tech person so I need slow demonstrations.
He is a bit of a fast talker but it's actually really easy to follow if you have your Roku remote in one hand while watching your TV and your cell phone in the other. That way you can pause the Doc Squiffy stuff from your phone as often as you need to and catch up with your remote & TV. It makes for a far less stressful session that way, when you can move along at whatever speed you want. 😉🤪😵💫😎👌👍
I will use the little gear box in the upper right corner of the screen and go to the playback speed and select either.75 or .50. It will slow down the voice to a speed you are comfortable with.
Roku's insidious "non-opt out" policy is basically holding consumers who bought their products to ransom, and I will have nothing to do with companies who do that. So I basically told Roku to sod off. I will be replacing my television in my Belize house because of this.

The Roku NFL app hasn't worked for me for weeks. NFL is no help... virtually no support for it, and Roku hasn't helped the many complainers either, even for customers who paid them (Roku) for that app.

I have a HiSense 43 Roku TV and a Motorola Moto g 5G cell phone and am running both on AT&T Home WiFi. Thank you for making this video. Now I have a question to ask. I just set the Roku Express up yesterday & now it won’t let me go back to using my regular TV remote. Which will access my DVR. Do you know how I can do this? I even tried unplugging it & I still can’t access my on TV remote. It’s ridiculous.
You can't use Roku Express with your tv remote. It stays on like a computer. You have to switch the HDMI to go back to your tv or cable/dish service. You can't use a DVD player with it either unless you have a TV with built in Roku.
I would rather have a regular old style tv than this crap where they control what it, changes seems like it changes constantly. So much for privacy or freedom of choice
I took care of this problem by throwing away my Roku tv and eoku stick! My Roku tv decided to brick itself until I hit the agree button! So I did the only reasonable thing by smahing the screen and discarding it right into the trash! Therefore this problem for me is done!
Hold on a second. I don't use Roku so I am wondering why a device is sending me ads. Streaming services annoyingly yes but an actual device. Thank god I don't use that aspect on my TV.

Where do I go to get the channel numbers back. My locals are there channel number and name, but not the streaming TV. Do you have have any idea where I go to fix this. @@CardiacCat Yep, I could not remember when but that was the day it went in the trash. After reading reading up on that I saw another article that said in the future they plan to add ads to the screen anytime you hit pause. That was the deciding factor.
Currently my Roku is just a screen saver. It'll probably stay that way forever it's I'll never opt in to there new terms. If I need the slot it's occupying for something else, then it'll go in the trash.
@@animatsuri Right. Those new terms they tried to slip in on everyone that had no way to opt out was a direct response to them being hacked and exposing user data. They were trying to get ahead of the class action lawsuit so they can claim you have no case because you agreed not to sue them, even though many people didn't know about the breach. Is there a way to block TH-cam app or put a password to redownload on Roku tvs? My 7 year old keep redownloading it & I cannot figure out how to restrict the app
Removing the application. is the right step. However you will need to block TH-cam from your router. You might even have a area to block just your T.V.s IP address so only your t.v. is unable to get TH-cam. Hope this helps.
My Roku Streambar often auto-mutes the sound for no apparent reason. Several times in every viewing session I'm unmuting muting that I did not want. Any ideas for eradicating this feature? Thanks...
@@d.r.martin6301 You might want to try an aftermarket remote. Or install a remote app on your phone. I was having problems with incidental contact/movement and the dedicated channel buttons would switch away from what I was watching. One day I had enough. I grabbed a needle nose pliers and ripped the buttons out of it! I wouldn't recommend doing that to the mute button, but it solved my problem!

I have this POS TV...regret buying it.... I can't get to the apps section on the home screen. The remote won't navigate to the apps section. The only ADS I should be seeing are ADS in the movies and shows I watch...putting ADS on the home screen is BS. The last time they changed the home screen it was a sponge bob back ground....I am 61 years old.... I DO NOT WANT crap on MY TV before that it was disney crap!!.... I searched it up, but no one seemed to have an answer, but when I plug in my USB drive to my Roku TV, it says that Roku, etc essentially has access to the drive, which I don't want them to have. Other than buying a new TV, any solutions? Thanks
Roku remotes are THEE worst ever!!!! I run through batteries EVERY WEEK! Where, my other remotes only every 9 months toa year. Roku seems to have been created by a 9th grade AV class there is no rhyme or reason as to how the remote is set up, I mean 6 clicks to get out of a service!?!!!
You can get out of a service with one click, just hit the home button. The batteries in my roku remotes last a long time. I wonder if yours is defective, or are you using headphones with the remote it something?
@@peterlutz7191 Mine drains the batteries too. I've never had a remote use batteries like this one. I've switched to using rechargeable batteries. Taking them out to charge them is a hassle, it's better than buying new ones all the time.

Yea, I've used my 60" tv (Not a ROKU anymore) as monitor too been doing it for years. ROKUs tv's last about !yr and a half.

We hate the sound bar too. Have tried all different sound set ups and none of them are very good. I was blaming it on our old ears! Lol

If you have personalize ads turned off, the sensitive ad content options aren't available.

The ads aren't during videos, they are like small ads in the corner of the home screen. Usually for a streaming service or a specific show or movie.

On ur phone you should be able to select cast to your tv or other device, something like that, but ur phone has to be connected to the TV

I finally found my answer to my own question. But I know where to go in the future.
I have a Roku device that had problems. I unplugged it and plugged it back in later. It never would log on to my internet. It is a piece of JUNK!

I don't have Display Type, my Roku TV is 4K.

If it's a roku tv, it knows the display type. That setting is for stand alone roku's that are hooked up to a tv via hdmi.
i have a 42 inch but it keeps buffering on black screen when i look at the roku channel then goes to home
