Isabelle Huppert in "The Piano Teacher"..❤😂🎉
Margaret truly is a masterpiece. It's three hours long, dense as a novel but easy to watch.
Some five more among the greatest film performances of the century so far, irrespective of nationality (all cited in chronological order):
--Heath Ledger in 'Brokeback Mountain' (2005)
--Uggie in 'The Artist' (2011)
--Quvenzhané Wallis in 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' (2012)
--Géza Röhrig in 'Saul fia' (2015)
--Timothée Chalamet in 'Call Me by Your Name' (2017)
Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood is #1 of all centuries.
Cate Blancett in Tar.
Agreed. That 2007 masterpiece is for the ages. I must’ve watched it twice so far in this year alone.
TAR is the most pretentious movie ever made .. glad it walked away with NOTHING.
@@richardbocanegra5945 No.
+1 for Lewis.
Agreed.
Dude looks like a Russian serf straight out of the Romanov era.
Calls out Leo for best performance of the century. Shows clip of Jonah Hill.
I was expecting Daniel D. Lewis in There Will Be Blood.
Bet most would've expected DDL in There Will Be Blood!
Excellent 🎉🎉🎉 video
Interesting list. Do you keep a (publicly available) log of the films you've experienced?
People may sneer but Denzel Washington kicked the century awake w his performance in Training Day. That early high-water mark still comes back to me. Didnt love the movie itself but his performance was unforgettable. He was at his greatest height - all the rawness he brought to early movies like Glory but subdued and strengthened by the craft he'd perfected since then.
Great list 👍
I love Brody
Very New York centric, which isn’t surprising, but is nonetheless a bit myopic.
Agreed! Not just a bit either.
Maybe call it “best cinematic performances of the last decade”
yes to Madeline's Madeline
The best performance would be watching Mr. Brody eat cotton candy off a cone.
English-speaking:
1. Elizabeth Olsen - Martha Marcy May Marlene
2. Carey Mulligan - Wildlife
3. Ethan Hawke - First Reformed
4. Timothée Chalamet - Call Me By Your Name
5. Joaquin Phoenix - Her
"International":
1. Sandra Hüller - Toni Erdmann
2. Isabelle Huppert - Things to Come
3. Mélanie Laurent - Inglourious Basterds
4. Maggie Cheung - In the Mood for Love
5. Mišel Matičević - Exile
Ethan was amazing in FR:)
Wolf of Wall Street as best movie of the century is insane
It is
Not American, but my favourite performance is Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Never seen anything like it.
Always admired Brody's opinions, but Wolf of Wall Street the best film of the century?!
Michelle Williams in Wendy & Lucy.
I love that you know this film! It was gut wrenching. I love Kelly Reichardt's vision.
Film Critic Richard Brody really doesn't sound like he looks. With his hirsute appearance, I expect him to sound more like Gandalf.
Dostoyevski is delusional.
How very diverse
Oppenheimer?
A deafening NO.
Amazing how all five just so happen to be English-language films..!
Considering he's making a list of performances in American cinema as he states at the outset of the video, that seems quite appropriate..!
ugh... Every opinion he has is determined by how he wants to appear. Most tedious film critic ever.
Mahershala Ali doesn’t deserve a spot on this list, or an oscar for that performance. Would’ve rather seen Charlize Theron for Monster
