Nice tutorial The only issue is with this approach is that you can't change one track such as vocals or mute (silence) just the bass guitar if someone is sitting in for a gig or specific song. This is why I do all my backpacking in tracks in Garageband so I can EQ individual tracks to a specific room environment depending on the dynamics of that space. Also, if I have a female singing a traditional male part, I can mute that GB track and let her sing live without remastering the entire song or add some tape delay to just a specific part of the song for effect. I have also found that converting a song from GB to MP3 for a small file size changes the entire mix and make everything sound muffled.
nice points :) I've never worried about having someone sit in on my gigs, except the occasional singer. I remove all vocals, including backing vocals, from all my tracks and Stage Traxx 3 can change the key of the song on the fly, in case any guest singers need a different key. Converting to mp3 definitely reduces quality of the audio but, in typical pub/club scenes, the difference is negligible and the average punter has no idea. I've even used Moises to make a couple of backing tracks that sounded a bit iffy at home in the studio lol but at the gig they did just fine. It's a compromise I guess... same for my guitar sound. I run my HX Stomp direct to the PA for live use and don't take an amp anymore. I'm getting older and the less gear I need to cart in, the better ;). Thanks for the input! Some good ideas there!
Dear Shane, Thank you for this tutorial. Do you know if by buying a track we also buy the right to perform it at gigs, or we need to do anything else in addition to buying the track ? I couldn't find this info on their website.
I don't think we also buy the right to perform the songs that we buy. But, unless you're selling out theaters and big shows, I don't thing it would be an issue.
Hey Shane, have you found any apps that control backing tracks, lyrics and lights on an iPad? I know this can be done on a MacBook, but was hoping to keep everything on the iPad if possible. Thank Mate!
I'm pretty sure Stage Traxx 3 could do lights, as it can send time stamped midi signals, but I assume you would need a DMX controller somehow connected to the ipad. Maybe there is a bluetooth or wireless dongle that can do that? I have thought briefly about it but haven't invested enough time to work it out. At the moment I just use ST3 for lyrics and backing tracks.
How do you play the tracks from your iPad? Do you cable connect it to a mixer? New ipads dont have auxilary ports. I am assuming you arent using wifi or bluetooth. Any info appreciated.
I run GarageBand, mics, acoustic and electric guitars and amps from my MacBook to a Behringer QX602 mixer, then out to my PA speakers. This gives me maximum control which helps in any environment.
@@slowhandmedia6150 do you load each song into garageband and mix it before playing it at a live gig? (just noting in your other reply "EQ individual tracks to a specific room environment depending on the dynamics of that space"). Wouldn't that take some time between songs to do that?
Hey mate, does the lyrics and chords came from karaoke version or from the stage track 3? Are the chords precise? Lastly, how do you compare it with jamzone as far as its convenience in live performance? Thanks. 😊
After importing the mp3 into Stage Traxx 3, I google the lyrics and copy/paste them into ST3. Sometimes I add the chords manually if it is a song I'm really not familiar with. I work out the chords by ear and input them, line by line. Other times I just have the lyrics without the chords if it's an older song I have either played or am familiar with. I am putting together another video soon, showing how I add clicks and modify tempo and/or pitch in Stage Traxx 3. I might add how I do the lyrics and chords as well :)
yeah they only let you sample a short section of the song, then you can hear the entire song after you buy it. Sometimes though, the sample doesn't play and I have found a couple of reasons for that... if the songs individual tracks haven't loaded fully, the sample won't play. Usually that happens when my internet is playing up and slow. The other reason (for me) is sometimes I open the song in a new tab on my browser and at the bottom of the tracks, where the price/download button is, that button may be greyed out. I refresh the page and that seems to fix it. I hope that helps!
Nice tutorial

@@callanturner4749 yeah I run a cable to the mixer using an adapter from the iPad. I’ll be making another video about it soon :)

also, I haven't used jamzone so I can't really compare the two, sorry.
Thank you!
