  • Here we turn this early 2000s PC case into something more modern. That includes dealing with the pesky lack of cable management as well as the cumbersome nature of using such case.
    Parts -
    Asus P8Z68-V LE
    Intel Core i5-2500k
    Patriot Viper DDR3 1600MHz (2x4GB)
    EVGA GTX 560 Ti 1GB
    Arctic Freezer Pro 7 Rev. 2
    EVGA White 600W Power Supply
    Some Marple case from around 2000
    I'll post an update when I've got a case fan fitted and those CD drives working - blasting some Vanessa Carlton will be worth the wait.
    And thanks for the 100 subs. The Budding Engineer has been a fun journey so far, and there's much more to come.

    This video and build are a masterpiece! Linus could learn a thing or two lol. Seriously awesome work. I can see care in every screw turn and cut. The algorithm did its job today. I hope to see your channel grow

    My PC is a Half-Sleeper too. I named it the Decade because the parts range from pre-2010 to 2020.

    this is really well done, actually making improvements to the case whilst still preserving it (i.e. not ripping out the front like most other people do)

    yeah, dealing with the octopus (what me and my boss called the psu) can be very *fun* in these older cases, moreso with smaller cases

    I still remember that the 2500k was the hot shizz back when I built my first PC, it was too expensive for young me and I went with an FX chip instead.

    • @TheBuddingEngineer
      @TheBuddingEngineer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I genuinely find FX-series chips interesting, hope you've had a decent experience with it

      @@TheBuddingEngineer they were interesting indeed, reaching insanely high clocks for that era (although the architecture / core count was sketchy) they were fun to OC.

    Reminds me of my first "new" PC build back in 2015.
    Used an old Gateway ATX tower w/ a cheap mATX Gigabyte MoBo, i5 2400, R7 380 2GB, 8GB 1333 DDR3, 128GB Transcend SSD, and a 1TB WD Blue.
    Had to Dremel off I/O Shield & HDD cage.

    10:49 Maybe you could drill a few holes along this edge to the cover and frame, use flat head screws at the cover and nuts at the bottom of the hole at the frame to keep the cover as close as possible to the frame.

    Really nice build man. I'd remove the drive bay and the cd drives. Just glue them the front on and bobs your uncle.

    Amazing work. My sleeper is also a Sandy Bridge cpu. i5-2310 paired with an rx 570. If you need to improve airflow on the back panel you can check for PCI fans.

    You could also have made some fan grills holes on top or bottom of the case.

  • @tj71520
    @tj71520 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    personally I wouldve kept the top shield intact because now the top has a gap and also you should add real sata dvd drives

    • @TheBuddingEngineer
      @TheBuddingEngineer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, at least that gap wouldn't be so visible if that was the case
      And I too wanted to SATA DVD drives, but unfortunately I've moved on from this build
      I appreciate your suggestions, though

    If you're already changing aesthetics with the side window, why not put a 80mm fan in the 5.25" bay?

    This was so cool. How fun to see another geek+woodworker. I have the same motherboard. And I am considering doing something fun with it. Do you know the highest end cpu this can take?
    Cheers.

    • @TheBuddingEngineer
      @TheBuddingEngineer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!
      The highest-spec CPU you could get is the i7-3770K, but the 2600K is just as good imo, but much cheaper

    You know you didn't need the drive bays, you could have used the drive bays covers and glued them to your PC, and you would have much more space inside the case.
