Great run Danny. I've followed the OoT speedrun scene since around 2018 with ZFG and heard about you a few years back. Despite the death, this is super impressive. I've never done a speedrun of this game, but this almost makes me wanna try and speedrun this category...
That laugh you hear right after the explanation of that crazy glitch in Dodongo's Cavern is because the guy sitting right across the aisle from me in the live audience said "I've never felt so dumb watching a speedrun"
You have to acknowledge the professionalism that Danny had during this run. Goes to show that something might happen as unintended during your run, but can still pull one hell of a run in 23 minutes. Hoping GDQ showcases more of his runs in the near future. Greetings from this first-time commenter, full-time lurker.
I remember how flabbergasted I was back when ganon door was shown at GDQ and I clicked on this video hoping to see some new cooler discoveries and was not disappointed! Absolutely amazing run!!
When I saw the 23:20 time on the video I knew something must have happened during the run and I was just praying Danny got Ganonfloor first try. Kind of amazing he pulled off one of the most difficult tricks ever found in the game, and then died to the boss, but no big deal. The tower escape was just a victory lap and gave them more time to explain stuff.
Whenever something new gets found in OOT, I think: "This ist it." But then you see OOT coming again to a GDQ some years later and so much has changed. It's really fun to watch what happened to this game throughout the years.
I don’t know about all of you but I completely understood everything the runner and commentators were talking about during the big Dodongo cavern skip 😗
How they found those glitches? I can't believe someone finding, they connect the game to a computer and find failures and bugs or how they get to that specific situations?
@chefcito0199 it's possible they use software to find glitches but another possibility is that there are communities of speedrunners for games that share glitches to help their speeding. It's also been a bit since the game has released, so more time to find more skips and share with community
@@chefcito0199 The games age and the awesome dedication put into it from the community. People will eventually turn a game inside out, using different tools, looking at code, testing all kinds of different things just to see what works. It's a fun hobby.

With King Dodongo already being the final boss it's wild this trick just happens to take place in the final dungeon [Old ganonless was a weird wrongwarp from King Dodongo to the credits]
@@Yewtewba Would have been sub 16. Amazing considering the record for the category is like 13:17 if you include the intro (official speedrun times don't)
Given the recognized canon alternative timelines of Zelda lore it would be really funny if Nintendo acknowledged a timeline of OOT where Link defeated Ganon as a child without ever doing the adult timeskip
At any point in this run, do they ever explain what "SRM" is? I know this is a No SRM run, but it still would have been nice to explain that to the viewers for context. As of what I've picked up from this, SRM allows you to warp to the credits, but nothing more. All I needed was someone to say "Stale Reference Manipulation", and talk about the differences in routes.
SRM or Stale Reference manipulation is the most powerful glitch ever discovered for OoT. It allows pretty much anything included full arbitrary code execution where you can execute any code you want. The problem with explaining it is the glitch is extremely complicated as to how it and why it works and what it does is a whole video by itself.
Yo another OoT runner here and I can with utmost confidence say that trying to explain what SRM is in a fast and concise manner without creating even more questions is impossible, it's not gonna happen in under 3 minutes so it's very understandable that they opted to focus on what the run is actually going to do instead of going over what it wont do
@@nallesounds5074I have never heard about it, but it sounds to me like it would be sufficient to say "SRM is Stale Reference Manipulation, which in short means you can manipulate the game data and do pretty much anything."
It's a glitch discovered in 2019 that lets you manipulate memory and even do arbitrary code execution. It has some interesting uses in 100% runs like giving link anti-gravity boots, but no one really runs SRM categories anymore because the short categories are too short to be very interesting and the long categories are stuck in routing hell. And there's other old ways to do a credits warp, so that's not even really the most interesting use case. Look up the Ocarina of Time TAS from SGDQ 2022 for the most amazing thing you've ever seen at a Games Done Quick event. I'm not even exaggerating.
Lol I found myself stopping the video because I love this game so much and I don't want to see it speedrun :D for me, this is the best game ever made (of course, based on your best memories as a kid as a huge booster)
Honestly, I'm kinda sad that Ganonfloor is a thing, i mean it's cool to see the route change and the run getting faster, but the old ganon tower warp at Deku Tree looked so much cooler.
i only learnt about this game early this year, and i really enjoyed it! i didn't personally experience any glitches, so you can probably thank the glitch hunters who've been inspecting the game's every detail over a quarter of a century for this fantastic tech!
Go touch some grass, this game is regarded as the best game of all time not because of the glitches but because the actual game/story/graphics for its time was revolutionary.
The thing is, the overwhelming majority of people who played the game would say that the game is fun even if you don't abuse glitches. Of course it's still not everyone's cup of tea though
This was a super fun run to show off. Thanks gdq for having me on! OoT just never dies, there's always some crazy new nonsense to show off lol
Not only an amazing but beautiful run!
very entertaining and great presentation!
incredible run man, thank you! My jaw hit the floor when you guys explained how the new glitched worked, fascinating stuff

This was a great couch. Everyone had something to say and they really helped the runner as well as explain what was happening on screen.
I like how they always showcase the newest big glitch that's been found, regardless of category

This was so awesome- great work! I absolutely loved this game as a kid.
Great run, amazing how this game always gets us something new over and over every year

This comment is such a deep cut that even with the subtext I'll bet there are people who don't get it. You're right, though. It's hilarious irony.
The Ganon door I seen started the top level bridge. Interesting.
1st try Ganonfloor!!! I really everyone to watch dannyb's video explaining the warping trick, it's very cool!
Can anyone explain the water extended superslide at 5:55?
I love that I know just enough about OoT speedruns that "Ganondoor is no longer in this run" made me sit up.
23 minutes is nuts I could never
It *is* nuts, and he nearly did what, 16 minutes?
@@Yewtewbathis is what I was thinking too, if he didn’t take the death at ganon, easily a sub 17-18 for sure

Kudos for the forethought to prep that script explaining the Dodongo trick ahead of time. Very crisp!
To think that if this game was made rock solid, we would not see the sheer amount of hype moments and insane runs we do now.

Amazing commentary and that Dino skip was absolutely insane
Dope run and recovery with added info was class. 👍🏻
Ah yes, an explanation of an acronym without ever telling you what the letters stand for, nor what it means (other than "it's a glitch").
Over the years I’ve watched how the OOT speedrun has changed and it’s insane the glitches that are found years later
Sick run from danny. This game isn’t as hard to learn as it seems, so anyone who thinks this was cool should consider trying it out :)

They did mention the most important part is that it is used to perform a credits warp which for the average viewers that's all they need to know.

Super impressive Danny! Way to crush it!
They never explained why they were running this on GameCube 🤔
How do you guys even figure out those glitches? Like the volume of an enemy? Do you watch TAS do it and then read the code?
Dude I just don’t understand how all of those tricks were ever discovered? That’s some crazy moves that I just can’t comprehend.
Well done, I enjoyed this
Crazy how @dannyb21892 was the first Twitch streamer I ever subbed to like 7 years ago and he's still running the same games now. Time flies
Saw a video about this skip a few months ago. Still have no idea what's going on. Still a kick-ass run.
OoT has the most complex speedrunning techniques I've ever seen. No game comes close.
Amazing❤
Who in God's name figured this stuff out!?!?!?!
100% will be epic with that exploit
the craziest glitch yet.

Yesterday I built my second dirt house in minecraft
SRM = Stale Reference Manipulation*
manipulation*
Manipulation not memory
How all that is faster than Ganondoor?? 🤔
Skips the cuccoo hunt, Gohma fight, Ganondorf “dying” cutscene, escaping the castle sequence, and castle collapse cutscene
First and I was there
