      Yeah. As an amateur developer I absolutely love my M1 Air. It is unbelievable how powerful it is for how thin and light it is. It holds its own with my desktop on everything but GPU performance and that is just nuts.
      I’m not really looking to upgrade yet. Was just curious what the differences were. When the next MacBook Air is released I will probably upgrade.

      If you are disgusted, then do not get the Galaxy Book 2 Pro as their 512GB SSD is slower than the M2 256GB (the one you are disgraced with) when on battery according to review tests. Tests on the latest Surface Laptop also says that is slower than the M2. I did not research other 256GB Windows machines as it is clear the 256GB M2 is in line or better, than many of the competition! I am sure when YT creators review Samsung and Surface they will not bother with their 256GB speeds, so a bit rich to listen to your hyperbole. Buy a slower Windows 256GB if it is a problem.

    • @AppleInsider
      @AppleInsider  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      With the 13" M2, the 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB SSDs all had great performance. It was only the 256GB module that was slow. My guess is it is the same here too. Just dont get the base storage and you should be good! Which is my general advice anyway!

      @@andyH_England The issue is that the next gen device of a product should NEVER be slower than the previous one. For me personally I'm not looking to buy a windows laptop, Apple is just better when it comes to thin and light laptops at the moment beacuse of their silicon. I pre-ordered the M2 MBA guessing it'll be faster than the M1 MBA, reasonable beacuse it's the next gen MBA. I'll mostly be web browsing for college work. Turns out the M2 will actually be worse for web browsing and having multiple tabs open beacuse of the slower SSDs. Why is the next gen slower than the previous gen especially when its more expensive. Ill probably return and just get the M1 not beacuse its cheaper but beacuse the older device is actually faster for my use case.

    -MBA with 512 of SSD and 8gb of RAM
    - MBA with 256 gb of SSD (with the storage issue) and 16 go of RAM

    • @raghav_somani
      @raghav_somani 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neither, the upper config is better but again m2 uses 5 gb of ram normally,cut out extra 3 gb you are full and then it will use ssd,which is slow,also after say 4 years i think 16 gb RAM will be kind of a standard,so you will miss out,and slow r/w speeds of 256 gb version makes it worst.

      For longevity the latter is by far best, less storage and more RAM. With 16GB of RAM, and only light to moderate usage, you will rarely use any swap memory, and heavy swap-memory usage (1) ages an SSD faster, and (2) is the only place where the slower SSD would affect performance (aside from if one generates or moves huge files, and wants to save seconds here and there).

      @AppleInsider  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      This is woefully incorrect. It doesnt get hot, not in normal use. I've been taxing it all day and it is barely even warm while pushing it to its limits. Will it get hot at times? Sure. Especially if on your lap or a couch without good airflow.
      I agree the base storage is low which is why in my other video I recommended everybody opt for the configuration with 512GB or 1TB of storage based on your needs. With the higher SSDs, you also dont have the slower speeds. Those SSD speeds are still quite fast compared to the PC market. As long as you get 512GB or higher, they are super fast. If you upgrade the SSD, this is a non-issue.
      And idk why you say it is overpriced. It's an incredible machine with a ton of improvements over the M1 Air and most people don't need to spend the cash on the M1 Pro 14-inch MacBook Pro.

      Hey kArl, I don’t the think the SSD is an issue at ALL. People freak out but it is seemingly only on the base model. I never tell people to buy the base storage so as long as you get the 512gb or higher, it’s a non-issue. That said, it definitely is slower and I have the benchmarks in this video that prove it. Those are real numbers from my M1 and my base M2. I would also never say it runs hot. That’s dumb and I didn’t say that in this vid. Heat isn’t a problem here

      @dr.elitemd8267 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well! Apple can’t make a perfect laptop twice. I expected them to deliberately kill the next versions of laptops after M1 lineup. Now, M2 air is a worse than a two year old MacBook Air. Wait what they will do to M2 MacBook pros. They will be totally trashed. Then Apple will spend 3 years adding useless features, removing functions, technically deliberately killing their improvements. After 4 years, they will make another perfect laptop ever, before starting the cycle of killing perfection.
      That’s how Apple doesn’t, I only buy their computer every 4 years if not 8 years. I never buy the versions that follow the top rated laptops because no matter what improvements, they are deliberately defected.
      Look at the history of Apple computers, you will find this cycle.

      Performance of open tabs/apps are not impacted by the slower SSD unless they require reading from disk. Otherwise, they are already in memory and would benefit from the faster M2 memory (RAM).
