Canada sees on average about 100 tornadoes per year, while that of the U.S sees roughly 10 times that. Nevertheless, this puts Canada as part of the top of the list for tornadic activity. Cities of Texas are warm compared to Calgary, of course, but both regions are usually quite dry. While our Prairie provinces get good t-storm activity in the Summer, storms don't usually develop until much later in the day due to the climate present there - again because of moisture availability. Nice vid!
Yes we do in the Prairies (our 'Midwest'), but none in Calgary yet. I've only seen one funnel cloud personally, and that was when I was northeast of the city ten years ago. We aren't as humid as your area can be, but we can hit the 70s and 80s temp-wise. As for Texas, you guys are known for tornadoes. Never been there, but I've had friends who have visited who said you haven't lived until you've seen a Texas thunderstorm..
It was some kids walking up the alley yelling about the lightning flash if memory serves. I know there was a pretty loud bang from thunder but I don't recall any transformers blowing up nearby but a few went down across the city that day.
Yeah I'd just moved to Calgary from the UK when this happened, it was quality! Especially 14th Street literally collapsing due to the huge amount of water, I was in Globefish Sushi on 14 street at the time - it looked amazing!
You know.. this year really sucked. Because this was the only storm we had!! Grrr!!!! It was a good one, but it wasn't good enough to tide a person over for an entire year....
I agree totally, and I am really being bitten by the winter blahs this year as a result...maybe I'll post a snow storm video or something as compensation!!!
I just read some of the other comments here, including one from a regular contributor to a number of Canadians and others. Check it out. It's the second one displayed from the top of the comments.
Quite often, yes, we get real violent gullywashers out here, and if it wasn't for WeatherMod going on hail mitigation flights we'd be replacing our roofs and siding every several years from hail damage. Ah, life in Hail Alley!! Thanks for the comment
