I agree. Most of the time I only like about 3 or 4 things in a collection. The rest are eh.... kind of prints to me--nothing I'd purchase on a whim. What can I say except I must be old school. But I see the dilemma that shops face. I also wonder if this is just a passing phase; time will tell.

As a former shop owner and Top 10 shop it is important to create an experience for people so they can see themselves making the quilts. Rows of bolts are not inspiring and when things are too busy people will walk right by. It takes more work but display is everything for a brick and mortar shop
My quilt store keeps collections together until maybe half the collection has sold out, and then they incorporate the rest into color sections. They don't have nearly as much room as this store does, so they do what they can. Works for me!
Love this idea! I don’t want the same fabric line as is…I like to add in my own fabrics to one or a few of the the collections pieces, and the color wall helps me quickly find what I like.
I am old school, want to create my own collections. I don't want someone else deciding what colors I want to combine. I hope it all works for you. The shop looks great I'll be sure to take the tour.

This would be so frustrating for me. 😅 I like to choose my own fabrics for a quilt. I would never buy a collection. I don’t like having the same print in multiple colors. I realize that people like the convenience of collections/precuts and not having to decide on color choices. But that’s the most fun. I don’t want a cookie cutter quilt like everyone else. Plus there is so much waste in a precut versus only buying what is written on a pattern. Also you are stuck with the ugly colors in a precut that would just be donated. But collections are very popular with todays quilters and it will save time for them trying to find companion fabrics. You will probably sell more fabric this way too. Good for you to listening to this popular request. Shoppers like myself will have to go on the hunt! 😁 I’ll never complain about spending more time in a quilt store though. Good luck❗️❗️❗️
I’m with you. As a textile artist, I’m looking for specific colors and values. I would have to hunt all over the store within collections for what I want. Please don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Collections are alright, but not everyone selects fabric that way.

There is no wrong way to do this. It looks beautiful as always. My struggle will be I don’t usually shop by collection so I will have to look through everything to fine the colors or prints that match where I headed in my pattern. I guess that cleaver marketing on your part. 😉
Same here. I couldn't care less about collections lol. I just want a good variety of patterns and fabric colors. Main reason why I've never bought by collection. It's too 'matchy matchy' for me. But this is great for people who care about having a specific collection or specific designer.
I like to see the fabrics in a collection together. That doesn't mean I will use each of the fabrics in a project. Sometimes I prefer to use a more subtle blender than the collection offers. I actually enjoy picking my fabrics from different sections, it can be a pleasant surprise.
I love seeing the collection together in a display. I also love how you have the precuts right there with the collection so that customers don’t have to hunt them down. Great change!
Thank you for "getting" into a quilters' mind and viewpoint. It truly is easier to visually understand and recognize the fabrics potential. Again, thank you!
I never even knew there was such a thing as collections until I went to a quilt show and admired some fabric. The lady goes oh that’s Tula pink, of course! I’m like tulip who the what? I’m sure he’s on the right track for his store, I just don’t personally ever buy collections. I go for the colors! But you gotta do what is right for your customers.
My all time favorite quilt store where I shopped in person each month had the outer walls organized by color. There was a CW section, a 30s section, and a WOW section, which catered to their customers. Otherwise, every new collection had its own circular display in the middle of the floor, all the pieces together. When most bolts were gone remaining ones were integrated into the outer walls, and the newest fabrics took center stage. Staff knew their stock so well, I never had trouble finding anything!

Hey - I feel your pain!! I’m a retired cataloging librarian/craft seamstress. Was once involved of culling out all the biographies from the adult non- fiction shelves to create a stand-alone collection….a change in approach that our patrons requested. Our building housed about 90,000 volumes. Pulling books, re-cataloging them, relabeling, sorting and rehousing them was a daunting task, but it made our users happy - so we did it for the greater good! Keep smiling and carry on!!💕
That is fabulous! I love the fact that you have put all the items together for one grouping. I wish more stores would do that. Instead I have to hunt all over the place for what I want. Good job guys!!!!
I preferred the layout as it was. It was fantastic to see all the fabrics of one colour together. I never quilt by collection, preferring to choose my own combinations. I think I'm in the minority but I don't want someone else choosing my fabric selection for me.
Looks awesome Teancum! A job well done Sew Yeah. This would be a perfect shopping trip for me. I know what I would be looking for and wouldn't have to ask for help. Thanks for showing us around.🤩🥰
This is prefect brilliant idea. I wish my local quilt store set theirs this way. I hate asking staff if they have the collection I’m looking for. Very interesting! I like a little of both, but when I think about it, my favorite quilt shops have everything arranged by collection. Also, many designers keep incorporating some of the same colors from one collection to the next, so displaying them all together makes a lot of sense today.
And I'm on the outside. I prefer color, I can see the collections online. When I have a free-range project, I want to shop by color not by some company's thought of what 'goes together'. Have you kept the color wall of fabrics for those looking to put togeather their own designs? I do a lot of "scrappy"s, and am usually looking for background fabric in any color, with unubtusive prints.
There are some that are organized that way, but I know Ann Arbor sewing should listen! I went in there looking for a particular line of fabric and they said oh it is all mixed in. I’m sorry I don’t have two hours to sort through the fabric.
I was at the store this past weekend for the first time (I live 300 miles away).... I found it so easy to navigate and loved seeing all the collections together. Bought a bunch of things too!
Oh my gosh! I love the way you rearranged the fabric! I wish I could visit your shop. The former quilt shop that was here (on Florida's east coast) used to break up the collection after a month. Whenever I asked about the coordinating fabrics, I was told I would have to look for them throughout the store, which was a huge store. I never could find what I was looking for and found it so frustrating. I'm happy to see the changes you made. I think it's great that you put the precuts next to the collection. You did a great job!!
50-60 years ago, JC Penney organized their fabric in what could be called collections. It made it easy to find coordinating fabrics for an outfit and that how I learned to shop fabrics. Even more relevant now so your change is great.
Loved the fabric shop at Penney. What memories! Once upon a time many major department stores had wonderful fabric sections. If you didn't find a blouse to fit your long arms, you bought the fabric and made it yourself.
@@barbarah5742Many years ago I found the not ridiculously expensive wedding dress I was looking for at Penney’s but realized it was inexpensive because it was very cheaply made. My mother & I went to their fabric department, looked at patterns, found a Simplicity skirt and a Vogue top that we were able to put together and create our own version of that dress. We worked together for weeks and I had exactly the dress I wanted. Plus she tatted a lovely bridal tiara with lace hearts and seed pearls. I learned enough tatting to make a row of lace to go around the edge of my veil. And it all started in the fabric department!
Wish my store was big enough to do this with all our collections. We keep them together as long as possible but when they start getting thin/old we split out the solids into the colour wall and keep the themes together such as floral, cats, dogs, baby, kids, licensed…
Very clever marketing to enhance the shoppers experience! Keeps your store fresh and definitely current! Just discovered your channel and look forward to following you! God Bless!
You fixed it! Love that the precuts are with the collection. Saves time looking for the border, backing and binding fabrics when I only purchased, won or was gifted just the jelly roll or layer cake. Great job! 🎉
YES! YES! YES!!! I've only been in one other quilt store that is organized by collection and it was awesome!! Unfortunately, it's also 3 hours away! I get to go there once a year when I visit my sister and it's almost halfway so it's a great resting point. Great job and your store looks yummy!!!🤩
Many years ago I worked in a fabric shop. I can't tell you how impressed I was in seeing you carry all those bolts at one time. Yes, I know you're a male (and I'm a female), but nevertheless, you've got some nice muscles there, my friend!
Much better! That’s how it’s done at Quiltique! I love both your stores…before the Pandemic, I took a class with Camille Roskelly at Quiltique, met Me & My Sister, (Barb and Mary), Tula Pink, Angela Walters, (Trunk Shows),even Kaffe Fassett! Plus they taught me how to quilt, along with TH-cam. Your store is huge! But Quiltique is much closer to me, so I can go there more often…😊You carry more machines too! I’m lucky to be a Quilter in Henderson!😊
Okay, I have watched a few of your videos and I like how you explain things and how transparent you are. I was searching for a quilt shop to buy from and I like your style! You have a new customer!
I wish I was near your story but if I were I would spend, spend, spend. So that’s good and not so good, lol. Best of luck to you. Showing customers what they can do with each and every product is VITAL in modern sewing and crafting!!!!! You get IT!!!!
This looks amazing and I love that I don't have to look all over for co-ordinating fabrics. Nicely done! Too bad I would have to leave my country, hop on a jet, rent a car to see it😉
O wow! Good move. I love when a shop keeps fabric collections grouped together and I can’t wait to come see the changes and shop the next time I visit my granddaughter in Henderson.
This is such a great idea ! I wish I lived closer, so I could visit more often. I really enjoyed my visit to the store during our family vacation to Las Vegas
Y’all are “sew” sweet to do the change. But some places I have shopped don’t have their new collections together very long after a short preview up front. Either way, I would stay a long time just to check out everything. Continued success!
Thank you for this video. Love love the idea of colors coordination on the shelves as well as kits . I told Zach at the second store that this store venture would be your God send. Keep up the good work and much success to you and the sewyeahquilting team. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I did work with fabrics for years and yes changing all those bolts around is hard work. However, what a huge difference in how customer-friendly the finished products are with the pre-cuts and fat quarters right alongside.
I totally get what you are saying but many times I’m needing a particular color and when the like colors were shelved together it was easier to find the fabric color I need. It will be very very hard to check every bolt & fabric line. 🙁
I love the makeover and find the shelves more interesting. Collections aren’t necessarily pre-packaged; you can also buy yardage or fats. If I ever make it to your area I’d love to stop by!
That is brilliant! Even though I don't care for the "modern" fancied up collections for myself, it is nice to see how the fancies have been moderated to make them possible for modern folks to turn into nicely orchestrated quilts. If course, along the way the incredible color-wheel categorizing was thoroughly intimidating in its own right . . . I'll have to find out where y'all are so I might consider visiting the store . . . not going to happen (age) but a nice idea. I hope your 'fix" of the brokenness will pay off. Oops, I have one last thing to say. The fabric color or anything else has noting to do with quilting. Quilting is the process of sewing through layers of fabric and sometimes includes batting and serves to hold all the parts in place. Incidentally it can be used to REALLY make a surface stand out. It can be a solid color and if sewn over it makes a quilt. OK, end of rant. Still think your vid is briliant.
I think with the invention of precuts it changed how lines are designed. Ya’ll have your work cut out for you, and I remember you asking this question on social media. your customers will spend more money this way 👏👏👏
You and your family have done a beautiful job! What a big undertaking that this was! I am sure that those who visit your store will appreciate it so much. Maybe one day I will be able to visit!❣️
Now that each fabric collection are stored is stored in it's entirety, how did you organize the collections on the shelves? Are they by theme, manufacturer, size of collections, or date they arrived at the store? How much has to sell out of a collection before you need to free up the space for a new collection?
I was wondering the same thing about what will happen as the collection sells out. It seems like every collection has a couple fabrics that sell out almost immediately - usually a light background or great backing fabric or that one color way that everyone seems to prefer. Eventually there are just a few prints left, and they will have to go somewhere that’s not the collections shelf.
Thank you thank you. I love your store but when I would visit I was so lost. I have designers I buy a lot of and to now have them organized like this makes me want to come visit every day! Love this so much!!!

We worked together for weeks and I had exactly the dress I wanted. Plus she tatted a lovely bridal tiara with lace hearts and seed pearls. I learned enough tatting to make a row of lace to go around the edge of my veil. And it all started in the fabric department!
And JC Penney has gone out of business 😂😂😂
@@robertawalsh2995 ours hasn't. I was shopping there a couple of weeks ago.
Wish my store was big enough to do this with all our collections. We keep them together as long as possible but when they start getting thin/old we split out the solids into the colour wall and keep the themes together such as floral, cats, dogs, baby, kids, licensed…
We've had our store laid out the exact same way for over eight years. It's a great way to help your customers find exactly what they're looking for.
Very clever marketing to enhance the shoppers experience! Keeps your store fresh and definitely current! Just discovered your channel and look forward to following you! God Bless!
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome 😎 Nice change, I love it ❤ Now I really need to make time to fly to Las Vegas and visit your Fabulous store 🤩🤩
Please do!
You fixed it! Love that the precuts are with the collection. Saves time looking for the border, backing and binding fabrics when I only purchased, won or was gifted just the jelly roll or layer cake. Great job! 🎉
Yes! Thank you!
The “SEW YEAH” Family are AMAZING🎉! M🍀
You are too kind, but we really appreciate our customers!!!
YES! YES! YES!!! I've only been in one other quilt store that is organized by collection and it was awesome!! Unfortunately, it's also 3 hours away! I get to go there once a year when I visit my sister and it's almost halfway so it's a great resting point. Great job and your store looks yummy!!!🤩
Thanks for your support. We appreciate our customers so much!! Thanks for watching!
Your store is the danger zone!!! I’m literally drooling over here !!! It’s sooooo beautiful!!
Haha oh no!!
Many years ago I worked in a fabric shop. I can't tell you how impressed I was in seeing you carry all those bolts at one time. Yes, I know you're a male (and I'm a female), but nevertheless, you've got some nice muscles there, my friend!
😂😂🤗💕
Much better! That’s how it’s done at Quiltique! I love both your stores…before the Pandemic, I took a class with Camille Roskelly at Quiltique, met Me & My Sister, (Barb and Mary), Tula Pink, Angela Walters, (Trunk Shows),even Kaffe Fassett! Plus they taught me how to quilt, along with TH-cam. Your store is huge! But Quiltique is much closer to me, so I can go there more often…😊You carry more machines too! I’m lucky to be a Quilter in Henderson!😊
I'm in Henderson too
Okay, I have watched a few of your videos and I like how you explain things and how transparent you are. I was searching for a quilt shop to buy from and I like your style! You have a new customer!
Awesome! Thank you!
I wish I was near your story but if I were I would spend, spend, spend. So that’s good and not so good, lol. Best of luck to you. Showing customers what they can do with each and every product is VITAL in modern sewing and crafting!!!!! You get IT!!!!
I love it!! That is going to make shopping so much easier and more enjoyable.
I hope so!
So excited To see you in St. George. Hope you will bring in tons of precuts
We will 😊
This looks amazing and I love that I don't have to look all over for co-ordinating fabrics. Nicely done! Too bad I would have to leave my country, hop on a jet, rent a car to see it😉
Come on over!!! Thank you!!
What a HUGE amount of work. Good job. ❤
Thank you for watching. We appreciate you!!
Its perfect! What a beautiful store. Id love to visit someday...in the Winter though. Congratulations 👏🎉
You mean you don't want to visit Las Vegas when it's 110 degrees outside?! 😂
@@SewYeah Naw.. I'll pass on your heat. We have enough here 🥵 I would love to visit one day though! I want a new machine🤗 See you all tonight 👋
Love the plan. Hope it catches on across the industry and across the country.
Thanks for the encouragement!
I hope other shops will follow your example. 🥳🥳🥳
So do we!
I love it!!!! Wish I lived near your store. I could spend hours and hours there looking at all the collections! Congratulations on a job well done!!
Thank you so much!
O wow! Good move. I love when a shop keeps fabric collections grouped together and I can’t wait to come see the changes and shop the next time I visit my granddaughter in Henderson.
💕💕💕🤩🤩😊
Thank you! It’s been one of the reasons I might have gone cross town to shop. Having the lines together makes it so much easier now. I’ll be back!
See you soon!
I ❤ your new plan! Wish I was closer so I could shop in person.
Glad you like it! We wish you were too!!
Been to your shop. Beautiful. Now, it’s even more functional. Loved those color waves, though.
Thanks so much 😊
What a fantastic idea! Works so well for the customer!
Thank you!
This is such a great idea ! I wish I lived closer, so I could visit more often. I really enjoyed my visit to the store during our family vacation to Las Vegas
Thank you for visiting!
Y’all are “sew” sweet to do the change. But some places I have shopped don’t have their new collections together very long after a short preview up front. Either way, I would stay a long time just to check out everything. Continued success!
That's nice. Very, very nice. I hope more stores catch on and do the same. Thank you
We like it! Thanks for watching 😊
This is great! I wish our shops did the same thing!
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!!
💕💕💕💕💕
Looking so beautiful. I love all the colors!
Thank you so much!!
Love, love, love what you'all have done to your store. I hope more stores follow your concept.
I hope so too!
I love it! It makes it so easy to choose the color palette!
Good to hear that!
Love it! Wish you were my local shop🤩 good job! Treat yourself for all your work!
Lol thanks!
I did work with fabrics for years and yes changing all those bolts around is hard work. However, what a huge difference in how customer-friendly the finished products are with the pre-cuts and fat quarters right alongside.
Thanks!!!!
I totally get what you are saying but many times I’m needing a particular color and when the like colors were shelved together it was easier to find the fabric color I need. It will be very very hard to check every bolt & fabric line. 🙁
👍👍😊😊😊
This is the perfect way I like to shop in a quilt store! Great job
Wonderful!!!!
This is a wonderful set up and it is definitely easier for us quilters to find everything in one area. Awesome job!!!
Thank you!😊💕💕
I love the makeover and find the shelves more interesting. Collections aren’t necessarily pre-packaged; you can also buy yardage or fats. If I ever make it to your area I’d love to stop by!
Very true!
What a lot of work! I like the new idea better!
Thanks!
I hope your 'fix" of the
brokenness will pay off.
Awesome. I prefer having the collection together, it definitely makes it easier and one might check out more due to the time saved!
We appreciate your feedback on this!!
Yes! Love the change.
👍🧵🪡😍😊😊
Yes!!! I tell them this everytime I go into the store here in Alaska!!!
I TOTALLY enjoyed this video and your focus on us quilters!! Super interesting!
Thanks so much!!!
I was visiting Las Vegas in Oct and loved your store. There isn't a store as good as yours in my area of FL.
Why thanks for those kind words!
Well done! Now I have a reason to travel to shop with you. Such a great approach that the other stores should follow. Thank you for making this video!
Awesome! Thank you!
I can’t wait to see it live and in person next week!!!! 🎉
Haha, incredible! Be sure to say hi 😁
I think with the invention of precuts it changed how lines are designed. Ya’ll have your work cut out for you, and I remember you asking this question on social media. your customers will spend more money this way 👏👏👏
🤔🤔😉💕
The best!!!!! I'll have to find you guys one day!
👍👍😊😍
Yes please!
Beautifully done video and fantastic decision to group by collection. Thank you, Sew Yeah!
You and your family have done a beautiful job! What a big undertaking that this was! I am sure that those who visit your store will appreciate it so much. Maybe one day I will be able to visit!❣️
WE hope to see you soon!!!
❤❤❤
Now that each fabric collection are stored is stored in it's entirety, how did you organize the collections on the shelves? Are they by theme, manufacturer, size of collections, or date they arrived at the store? How much has to sell out of a collection before you need to free up the space for a new collection?
Those are good questions that I am sure we will be getting answers to in the future 😂😊😊😊
Super smart move. Love how it looks and putting the precuts with the collections…genius!
Thanks!!!🤩🤩
Great job!!!❤❤. Love it so much!!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much!!
I loved this video! And yes, seeing the collections together is better😊
Yay! Thank you!
WOWSER What a great organization...love the store.. so much common sense.
😊😊💕💕🤩🤩
Thank you thank you. I love your store but when I would visit I was so lost. I have designers I buy a lot of and to now have them organized like this makes me want to come visit every day! Love this so much!!!
Yay!!!! So glad you like this idea!
