The little chat between Shinazugawa and Obanai is how i feel watching all this, having read the Manga. Obanai(SerpentHashira) described the "Calm before the Storm" as something dark and heavy coming. He used the word Dispassionate when talking about the future, not something he's looking forward too.. I absolutely can't wait for Ufotable to attain god level animation for the next Arc 🎉🎉
a lot of original new scenes here, but i think my fav parts about this ep are the scenes with the "foot soldiers", especially at the end when everyone says that they will become stronger to support Tanjirō and the Hashira. like Kat, i was deeply moved. it's like the same theme that that convo between Tanjirō and Kotetsu at the start of s3: Tanjirō said that he might not defeat Muzan, but even if he doesn't, he _believes_ someone will. that's basically the central theme of the Demon Slayer Corps: they are spiritual descendants of the First Breathing swordsmen, they carry on that same will of defeating Muzan. i think Tengen wanted for them to have that mindset, that's why he was so proud and happy at the end: you _have_ to try, if it's not you, even after you possibly die, someone after you might do it. one of the many themes of DS is reincarnation, "the spiritual world" and the connections one have with their past, so i really love they're reinforcing those ideas here. and yeah, they're definitely expendable redshirts in the grand scheme of things (and to the plot lol), but we kinda all are. and that's ok. not always we are born geniuses or exceptional in what we do, but we still need to try and hope that if our "work" is not done in our lifetimes, someone will finish it. imo it's a pretty cool concept to have in a series :)

I was so shocked watching this episode because like 90% of this doesn't happen in the manga. But I'm glad, because personally I feel the KNY manga could do with a lot more smaller, character building moments that flesh out the dynamics better.
97% of this episode is exclusive to the anime, the only thing that appears in the manga is when Tanjiro arrives, greets Tengen and the wives and then leaves for the next training session
