What I love about this anime is that it uses in-game locations throughout the series. It's kind of crazy how seeing familiar areas in anime can spark nostalgia despite it being a fictional world.
Ahh it's wonderful to have reactors to this who have played the game. You can definitely watch it without, but I think it's much easier to appreciate if you already understand the world.
I can't tell you how many reactors I've watched who say "OHHH IT WAS A GAME, HE WAS PLAYING A GAME!" when David finishes the cyberpsycho braindance. It's so exhausting lol, but I guess you can't blame people who haven't played the game not knowing that's what it was. This alone makes someone actually having the context well worth it. Edit: nevermind, she still thought it was a game 😭
Not a lot of reactors played the game before watching the show. I laughed when you reacted to the call tone, the apartment setup, etc. Had the same reaction.
A massive perk of this is them knowing what a braindance is off the bat. I've seen so many stupid interpretations of it in the show from reactors not paying attention and never catching onto what it is: "OH ITS LIKE DRUGS?" "OH SO HE WAS PLAYING A GAME" "IS HE ASLEEP? IS THIS HOW THEY SLEEP?"
@@treefingers6572 It's actually stupid to assume they can't interpret it in different ways. Maybe get off your high horse and learn to be less ignorant.
@Caoobse ok, maybe I used the word "stupid" a little flippantly here, but I'm talking about people saying this stuff 5 or so episodes into the series, when it's already been established what a braindance is, so it shows they weren't paying attention. At that point, their "interpretations" are simply incorrect. It's really not that deep to me, it's just something I've noticed watching a lot of people react to this show. I don't see how I'm on a high horse or showing ignorance through that, you seem to assume I'm absolutely raging about this and going "ARRRGGHH IT'S A SIMULATION OF THAT PERSON'S MEMORIES, GET IT RIGHT YOU FUCKING NORMIE CASUALS." The most it gets from me is a little facepalm and I move on. You're kind of the one turning it into a problem.
Thank you for picking English. For some reason there are a plethora of languages in the English dub, but in the Japanese version there is only Japanese. Which doesn’t reflect the diversity of the city
That's a weird thing that I think anime needs to follow since people bring up the characters being Japanese most of the time, but shows like Vinland Saga, AoT and several other non Japanese setting should have VA from those specific settings, so Icelandic or Danish actors for Vinland or German actors for AoT, this is what they did for Cyberpunk and Cowboy Bebop and I feel like it's a more immersive way to tell your story, you'll just need to pay for an extra translator during the VA process, and localization for the transcribing.
It feels somewhat controversial to bring up this topic but it's a big elephant in the room for anime and the anime community who's hung up over subs. There are so many diverse dialects of the English language within the United States, the Japanese subs do not properly portray it. David Martinez in the English dub speaks English (United States) with a slight hint of a Latino accent. That nuance is lost on the Japanese sub. This issue is a similar problem I have with anime's like "Monster" and "Freiren" subs.
@@adamyoung6797 there's not really any accents besides the voice actor. It's the way they say some of the words that's different from the dub version of "Freiren". As an example, one of the character's names sounds slightly different but pronounced correct in the dub vs. the sub.
One of the greatest animated shows based on one of the greatest video games (and tabletop RPG‘s) ever made. And I love how there are weapons and clothing items from this show that you can have in this game.
Def in my top show of 2023. It's an amazing series that does the franchise justice and tells another story in the dreadful world of night city. Hope you enjoy(ed)!
This show is a very cool collab of Europeans and Japanese, well the work done was mostly by the Japanese ofc. I'd recommend The Red turtle, it's also European and Japanese - Studio Ghibli collab, but in that case the work was done mostly by Europeans and it's one of my favorite movies!
Great reaction so far, can't wait for the rest of the series! There aren't too many great reactions from folk who have played the games first, so very excited. This show is amazing, I'll be tuning in every time yous post... also the spine is the Sandevistan. Best implant in the game... maybe
What a great anime and what an intense story in so few episodes. 👌👌👌. Since you want to watch anime with few episodes, I recommend NEON GENESIS EVANGELION (26 episodes) and PLUTO (8 episodes.)
Imho, _Cyberpunk: Edgerunners_ is one of those few anime titles where the EN dub's superior to the JP one -- at least to those who aren't native JP speakers. It's also one of those shows a second-hand rewatch elicits joy, dread, and sadness in the same instant. Enjoy!
Yea spot on, alot of anime to this day is still inspired by Akira. Also the studio behind this Studio Trigger, has alot of experience with this genre. Other two big inspirations for this genre type is Ghost the Shell and Appleseed (same author), and come from the same era as Akira (at least in the comic form).
Please after the show consider reacting to the official 5 minute animated short "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners - Ending Theme | Let You Down by Dawid Podsiadło" (Here on YT) as well!
This episode really does an amazing job of setting up the series. Most importantly, developing sympathy for the main character. At the start of the episode, you have no idea who David is, but by the end of the episode man are you ever rooting for him to climb out of that emotional hole and plant his foot up Katsuo's ***.
Nova! This time I'll allow the dub xD The original is always first, but the dub uses better slang and the emotions are conveyed more ..."familiar"... to the western audience. Have a blast, Chooms ;)
Please react to X-Men 97! That show is the second-best MCU project for me; behind Daredevil, it's almost perfect. There's two episodes that I don't think it's a perfect show; those two episodes storylines weren't at the same level as the others, not bad episodes, but it makes it a 9/10. After what the Fox did to most of the X-Men, except Wolverine, Magneto, and Professor X, who were the only ones that weren't terrible, the X-Men deserved some justice, and this show did that and more. Cyclops is my favorite X-Men, the first X-Men, the leader of the team, and the Fox films did him so dirty, he was almost useless. Rogue powers here are accurate and useful, unlike whatever that Rogue was, who was nothing like Rogue. Storm here is an omega-level mutant; in the Fox film, she didn't even look that powerful. In the Fox films, Wolverine always looked like the most unstoppable and useful. Hey, Wolverine is my second favorite Marvel character, but when it comes to the X-Men, Wolverine is not in my top 5 because he doesn't join the team till years later, and other characters have way more importance and storylines than Logan. And in the Fox film, he looked like the most unstoppable and powerful when he isn't even close to the top 15. But X-Men 97 has amazing writing, dialogues, voice acting, animation, score, etc. And it doesn’t have gore, so Kat can watch it without having to look away or cover hear ears. The episodes are short, so it’s faster to watch the whole show and edit them. I would love if you guys watched it.
@@KatSonnythe first scene where David wasn’t playing a game but got the brain dance from the instance his mom responded to. I mean maybe you realized it when he said it 2 seconds after you but didn’t quite seem like it.
@keef5 Ahh, gotcha. Yeah Kat hasn't played the game in a while, and might’ve forgotten about BD's in that scene. Don't necessarily know why I didn't say it out loud, but don't worry, both of us certainly remember now.
@@KatSonny fair enough! But I love how you’re shown how there’s a black market economy where dead bodies are literally scavenged. David’s mom for the cybernetics, the chip to make and sell braindances and how people are put in fucked up situations and murdered to get to most wild BD experience like your in your first BD training from Judy where his buddy shoots him after robbing the store
I played it on launch on PC and genuinely didn't have as much or serious problems as people love to claim, it was more specifically the older console generations that had severe issues to the point where I have to agree that it shouldn't have been released on those anymore, but I also understand the new generation was also still quite new at that time. There is also already a sequel game in the works and the anime adaption has been received very positively, so honestly your comment is just hating on something you dislike but still clicking on videos related to it.
