Nat Evanson actually, mini went to their modern size with the R53 variants, in other words, early 2000’s right after their TINY mini, from then on the mini hatch models haven’t really gotten much bigger, the f56 model is more or less practically the same size as the R56 and that is the perfect sized mini hatch, but what’s wrong with mini spreading out in the market place and making cars more accustomed to people wanting a mini but more practical? People take the name “Mini” too literally without realising its the 21st century and it’s a business at the end of the day, plus have you saw a clubman up close? They are actually pretty small in stature, not much larger than hatches, so really... they are still a Mini estate styled car.
Alot of people seem to hate this clubman, but i really love this one. The new 3 door is a bit less then it's predecor, the taillights seem a bit to big. To bad the clubman is quite expansive, with some options it's somewhat between a bmw 1-3 series
I love the new clubman, I can't decide between this or the Jag XE to replace my current Paceman however, which is probably the first time anyone has ever said that...
I may be biased, because I drive the R55 Clubman, but to me this car simply lost its charm. I don't like the details - the doors are not frameless any longer, you don't get a chrome filler cap on the S versions, you don't get "suiside" doors, you get way too many doors and most importantly, while the previous version looked like the Traveller this one looks like... well nothing distinctive really. But let's not get all sad now, the lost charm is likely to be compensated by increased sale numbers... awesome.
I priced one last weekend -- it's very expensive, more than my 3-series BMW. Pity becasue it's still got charm in spades, but you are right, the loss of the suicide door and the frameless window is a missed opportunity -- they could have built a Polo while they were at it! The interior is a matter of taste, I like the switchgear, the instrumentatioin not so much -- it looks cheap for a car that quickly passes 40 grand (EUR)
I feel the rear boot lifting floor is very useful for walking boots and separating stored items away if you have dogs. The click feature to keep it up is also a very useful feature to keep it out of the way when accessing other items. My only concerns are whether a stated estate is capable of towing, the boot is rather gimmicky (including the blind spot), and (along with a Countryman) the size is more of a Maxi than a Mini. As to improvements to the Mini, I feel the lights would be better as flat lights over slanted, with flatter lights behind the glass. It would make better representation of the design against the original Mini (being completely flat!).
Very good review! I have the previews Mini Clubman and feels much better than the new version. At least it was small from outside and big from inside. I think people should let go the thing with the brand, "it's not a Mini, should be call Maxi" come on, who cares! It's a brand, not an adjective! There's no sense to have the split rear doors on the new version, they just create problems as Matt says (very good point by the way) and there's 0 practicality about them. The exterior of the new Clubman doesn't look good at all, not in real life, nor on BMW's adds when they try to find it's best angle (tough job actually).
Nice to see the usual jokes from people who are self appointed put down artists, the hipsters of cars who think they are cool because they find fault with cars real people buy, the only ones you impress are yourselves.
And it’s usually about the size of minis, and to be honest the clubmans are pretty small for their style of car, if anyone can find a mainstream manufacturer that produce an estate that is this compact and also well made then I’d be happy to see it, even then it’s like saying that Mini can’t produce a car like the countryman “BeCaUsE ThEy ArE ToO BiG” lol
Visibility is certainly not its selling point because I’m like 1.70m tall and sometimes I can’t see the traffic light in front of me because front windows are small so I gotta put my head almost in front of the wheel to see traffic lights and yes visibility rear is terrible But drives like a dream and handles well imo it has too much hp
i have to buy a car within a week but iam confused! can you guys please suggest me between mini cooper s 3 door, merc a class facelift, audi a3, vw polo tsi, volvo v40, and bmw 1 series???! please help me!!
+suyash shukla if you're the sort of person who doesn't just look for a car to get you from point A to point B and can sacrifice some comfort and interior design for more fun then go for the bmw 1 series, if you care about the fun to drive aspect and want a very comfortable and practical as well as stylish car go for the volvo v40.
Mini is the greatest exemple that cars gets bigger generation after generation. I wonder, when this trend will cease? I am not criticizing, just noting.
2:18 come on Matt! you might need to carry something with both hands... don't get me wrong, i hate this car, too but that's useful. i wish my car had that
Actually laughed out loud (ooh it was so good to actually write that in full) at the gas mask comment. If the mini had a grown-up dash instead of something designed for girls, I'd probably buy one.
To me, this car has one for the nicest looking rear ends. But, BMW were so lazy. They created beautiful light clusters and then simply added square brake lights in the rear bumper. Ruins the rear aesthetics so much and also the brake lights are just too low... Shame
Minis now are just like regular large cars, only they have a whole host of unnecessary design features and "mini" styling. This of course uses up space and makes it less practical. Hence why Matt keeps saying "it's practical..... for a mini". I'm sorry but £30,000 for a car that is supposed to be compact and cheap in the first place is just ridiculous. And anyway, I bet probably half of the people who drive new minis don't even know that the original ones exist.
Am I the only person that has noticed how this automaker gets away with making impractical, chubby cars with cramped interiors by adding a nostalgic and famous badge to them? It is an insult to the original design of Alec Issigonis.
+iron stark yeah such a bad mistake right, because Audi, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, and even Bentley are all making SUVs and CUVs and it would be so wrong for mini to make money too
iron stark you are similar to the people that criticized mercedes for making the s-class back 40 years ago because mercedes should never be that big. businesses change, evolve, and adapt. otherwise Saab will be their ending.
Looking forward to mini 7 sitter, mini limousine and mini coach bus.
lol because they are not !INI any more they should call themselves 'MASSIVE'
lol, they aren't mini any more in no time they will be 'BIGI'
+Nat_ 2003_7M1
The new Maxi Clubman.
+Jam E Animation Studios yep lol

i actually prefer the looks of this to the new hatch

Really liked this new texture of the video quality. Colours and contrast looking good :) Nicely done!
I love that vintage England style.
Mat's reviews get better and better while keeping the same overall format. Neat
2:04 "If only there was somewhere to store the parcel shelf"
2:15 "Under-floor storage, there is quite a lot of it"
@@Sto79Be cant it just sit in the boot
Honestly, this is a perfect family car. It looks great as well
Next generation is gonna be long enough to fit a coffin.
Haha most def
+Jake Root With an estate version
+Aristotelis Mitsiou (tkk7406) Hahaha a Mini estate now there's a sight.
+Jake Root Mini Coffinman
This is funny now because there is a mini estate car😂
I love the new clubman, I can't decide between this or the Jag XE to replace my current Paceman however, which is probably the first time anyone has ever said that...
What car did you end up going for?
I may be biased, because I drive the R55 Clubman, but to me this car simply lost its charm. I don't like the details - the doors are not frameless any longer, you don't get a chrome filler cap on the S versions, you don't get "suiside" doors, you get way too many doors and most importantly, while the previous version looked like the Traveller this one looks like... well nothing distinctive really.

Should be called the BIGI Clubman 2015
Nah, I don't think so.
I feel the rear boot lifting floor is very useful for walking boots and separating stored items away if you have dogs. The click feature to keep it up is also a very useful feature to keep it out of the way when accessing other items.

he called 50mpg "not too bad." In the USA, a 30 mpg car is a miracle.
USA and UK gallons is different so 30mpg in UK units would be slightly higher
+Awayze Really? Darn.
+Saad i think USA mpg is slightly lower than UK mpg ones. but yeah they're different
50 mp imperal gal is 41 mp US gal and vice versa, 30 US mpg is 36 imp. mpg. still there's a difference.
Best review man of cars
Very good review! I have the previews Mini Clubman and feels much better than the new version. At least it was small from outside and big from inside.

The only Mini i like is the Classic Mini and Countryman
i love this car
Looks fantastic!
Great car! Perfect for all.
How the hell are the UK versions getting so much better MPG? I drive a 2012 and I'm only getting about 31 mpg :(
melkorsbane 31 out a diesel? then you're driving like an arse. 31 out a petrol and thats about right.
The UK gallon is different from US gallon. Therefore the mpg' differ accordingly. I think they should call it UK mpg and US mpg.

looks alright in this colour. the Mini I'm interested in is the one designed by Touring.

Matt seemed to be sitting unusually close to the steering wheel.
That thing is HUGE. Its about the same size as a Volvo estate from the mid 2000's. Why do they call it a Mini?
I like the blue leather interior. I hate how most cars now only offer Black and Tan interior
Anyone know which jacket he's wearing? Looks like a G Star...
Who ate all the pies, who ate all the pies, Mini Cooper did, Mini Cooper did!!!!
Mat what u doing there?
So many boring "it's not MINI" comments and "it's ugly" remarks. Why do you bores take the effort to tap and watch the review????
Sounds like jealousy to me 😂
i have to buy a car within a week but iam confused! can you guys please suggest me between mini cooper s 3 door, merc a class facelift, audi a3, vw polo tsi, volvo v40, and bmw 1 series???! please help me!!

+cordis diee what about mini cooper?!
Volvo v40 ftw
Mini is the greatest exemple that cars gets bigger generation after generation. I wonder, when this trend will cease? I am not criticizing, just noting.
What ever happened to the concept of a small affordable car?
2:18 come on Matt! you might need to carry something with both hands... don't get me wrong, i hate this car, too but that's useful. i wish my car had that
Mini Cooper is the cutest
It's better looking than the old car
Actually laughed out loud (ooh it was so good to actually write that in full) at the gas mask comment. If the mini had a grown-up dash instead of something designed for girls, I'd probably buy one.
You should review the new espace v
Whens the GTD review coming?
And with flashing led what happens if there's more than one car in the car park 😪
I prefer the look of the mini five door looks more like a mini
love the clubman
hi Mat.. pls review Mitsubishi outlander phev 2016..thx
Blah blah blah, FOR A MINI.
Because Mini’s are great cars and it’s a car review? You imbecile.
Matttttttttttt,, love you!!
this guy should be on top gear instead of chris evans
They should really stop calling themselves Mini.
They don't, they're branded MINI ..Get it?
As mentioned in the video, get a Mk7 Golf GTD and you won't regret
They messed up the front in this generation MINI. The R56 was SOOO MUCH MORE SEXY!
"MINI"
“DuRR ItS tOo BiG DuRr
How do you do? Worthy Of An Oscar. pinch question What do you think? !
Previous model is more individual and interesting
grr, why is it called a mini, if it was called a morris or a cooper it would make sense in my brain why i look at it.
Hey Mat.How tall are you?
179 cm
i think mini cooper 3 door is the best!
the word "MinI" is not appropriate for that thing. =)
The brake lights are horredous. With all the LED tech in the world they used incandescent bulbs and on top of that placed them so low??
Mini. ...?...
I love it!
To me, this car has one for the nicest looking rear ends. But, BMW were so lazy. They created beautiful light clusters and then simply added square brake lights in the rear bumper. Ruins the rear aesthetics so much and also the brake lights are just too low... Shame
Thanks bro
Its a bmw x1 course its good
The entire car could have been summed up by the reviews last word...
Considering the price I'd rather buy a Volvo V60.
whoever designed the exterior of this car should be prohibited by law to ever do so again
Mini's novelty has worn off. Its just plain ugly these days.
+Komor Uddin Plus the fact that it's no longer mini anymore...
+Komor Uddin 100% agree, the big ass round dash display looks plain stupid
I've never been in a mini that didn't have a million rattles in the interior.
It's like an estate
Why do they continue to call such a big car a MINI?

Hey you are the carwow fellow.. what you doing here 😅😅
Rear view like looking through a gasmask😂😂😂
call this mini station wagon rather than clubman
Cost options: BMW
celerio please
You are amazing :)
I looks like chinese copy of Mini.
Because it looks like a mini but not like a mini hatch? Jeez some people are fools.
About as far removed from what a Mini should be. Makes me a sad 70's child :(
Would you mind telling me of any cars that still look like they did in the 70’s ?
Mini clubman is not even a mini anymore, I got a 2009 mini cooper clubman and not looks like a mini for me at all
I what it I love the car 🎉
Night time around the world or s normal dark and dreary winter day in England ;)
pause at 4:18 lol
Am I the only person that has noticed how this automaker gets away with making impractical, chubby cars with cramped interiors by adding a nostalgic and famous badge to them? It is an insult to the original design of Alec Issigonis.
Try getting in the car... It's huge inside and golf sized outside... So many ignorant remarks
Its all about money,MINI is OWNED by BMW...we all know BMW always selling BRAND only...
Euuugh - horrible - they've taken the "mini" concept too far - especially for the price.
Not bad at all, but holy shit its expensive!
Rather have a focus
And I said it couldn't get worse....
Ok but how tall are you
179 cm
Mini Cooper 2015... or Mini Cooper 2001 with a different engine lol
+Albert Arrabal yeah, I'll take the 2015 one for safety.
+thoravian the 2001 is perfectly safe, and at least it doesn't look like it ate all the pies ;)
+Volvo2222 Scotland I don't like it either, I just said at least it doesn't look fat
+Volvo2222 Scotland I suppose so. I would rather have a Citroen DS3, I love them. Or a DS4 CrossBack
+Volvo2222 Scotland I suppose so. I would rather have a Citroen DS3, I love them. Or a DS4 CrossBack
Really.? what does MINI mean these days? Now they will start making SUV's and Pickup trucks ??!.
+iron stark yeah such a bad mistake right, because Audi, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, and even Bentley are all making SUVs and CUVs and it would be so wrong for mini to make money too
+iron stark They have one, it's called the Countryman. And I agree with you, it's ridiculous to call something that big a "Mini".
thoravian when you name a company "MINI" you shouldn't making giant cars with that badge....maybe a new side company like Hyundai did with genesis.
iron stark you are similar to the people that criticized mercedes for making the s-class back 40 years ago because mercedes should never be that big. businesses change, evolve, and adapt. otherwise Saab will be their ending.
What drugs was the back end designer on?
Who is buying these?
You won't catch me driving one of those miserable cars
ClubHurse
wheels look small
It's not a Mini full stop.........................
Maxi not Mini.
Also to expensive.
Stupid car really. LOL at the end of the video. "Pointless...." :D
