In the books, when Paul crashes the thropter, he's actually using his ability to see forward into the future possibilities to control the aircraft as it's going down. Really cool seen in the book

In the Dune universe, Noble houses hire doctors who are graduates of the Suk School to be their primary physicians. Dr. Yueh is a Suk graduate and has their diamond tattoo on his forehead. That tattoo means that he has been mentally conditioned to the point that is impossible for him to harm another human being. But as we see later even that conditioning can be broken with the right pressure and set of circumstances.
Bene Geserits have the ability to choose the sex of their child, Jessica chose to have a son against the Reverend Mother's wishes. This movie takes place around 20,000 years from present day.
The reverend mother of the Bene Gesserit asked him if his dreams came true just as he dreamed them. Paul said "Not exactly" By forcing Paul into fighting to the death, Jamis DID teach him the ways of the Fremen. Being that Dune was written way before Star Wars, George Lucus said he got his inspiration for Star Wars after reading Dune. They call Dune science fiction for adults. Which is why many people thinks it’s boring. But it’s a story about humans evolution. What kind of a civilization humans would be like thousands of years from now. Also, most reaction videos by people of color understand Paul represents colonialism. A white savior. But there are some people who don’t get it because they keep wanting to compare it to the Matrix or Star Wars. Gentlemen, you’re in for a treat. Dune and Dune 2 are the best Sci fi movies I’ve ever watched. Dune 2 is my favorite movie in the past decade. Its cup runneth over with bad assness! And about what do they do if they have male child’s, they’re able to choose what sex they have, but she was only supposed to choose female
The “seers” is a cool nickname you came up with for the mentats, which unfortunately these movies (while great) don’t give much time to explaining. In this future mankind has abolished artificial intelligence or any machine that mimics thinking, so certain people learned to become human computers through intense study and the ingestion of a drug called Sapho. Paul in the books is also trained as a mentat, which also explains alongside his bloodline, sword training and bene-gesserit training why he is so powerful.
All the following to say "no, you couldn't use the Voice on a worm": The Voice is shown as like "the force" in this adaptation, but it's really just a way of manipulating a person's psyche based on various factors, mainly to do with appealing to their culture and life experience. Ultra simplified version being like, you recognise someone was in the army so you bark an instruction like a drill instructor, and they feel compelled to do it for a second. Just take that and add a hundred other details, and an extreme control over your voice. It's an extremely talented skill that only a highly intelligent and perceptive people can pull off, IF they've been trained how (and even that is secret knowledge among the Bene Gesserit, most people don't even know it exists); it's not a magical power.
“So he’s a Jedi?” 😬🤦♀️😮💨 watch out now, some people get mad at that! Tho…as a Dune fan Books & Movies it can be frustrating as Star Wars was based on Dune, not the other way around but I realize that for most people they see &/or have at least some knowledge of Star Wars first 😅
18:50, There is a lot of backstory of the supporting characters that isn't shown in this movie. Especially when it comes to Thufir, Duncan and Gurney. Some stuff about Gurney will be divulged in Dune Part II. Thufir Hawat the old dude Leto just told to go catch spies is his closest advisor and friend. Thufir is the Master of Assassins (and spies) for House Atreides. If Leto was Batman, Thufir would be Alfred Pennyworth. Thufir worked for Leto's dad Duke Paulus Atreides. Leto was only about 15 or 16 when Paulus died in a bullfighting match. Were it not for Thufir's wise counsel and the testimony of a young Duncan Idaho, House Atreides might have collapsed. Because advanced computers are outlawed in this world, human beings called Mentats (i.e. Human supercomputers) had to be developed. Thufir is a Mentat. After Paulus died, it was discovered that his death wasn't an accident but a conspiracy by Leto's mom and other factions. Upon discovering this Leto exiled his mother to the other side of Caladan. In the space of a few days, he lost both of his parents forever. So Thufir became like a surrogate father to Leto and practically a surrogate grandfather to Paul. One plot point from the books that isn't brought up in the movie is that Paul has the potential to become a Mentat just like Thufir. Leto took Duncan Idaho on as a surrogate younger brother and ward. When Duncan got old enough he became a soldier in the Atreides Army and eventually a sword master for House Atreides. When Paul was born, Duncan became a surrogate uncle /older brother to him. Long story short, Duncan, Thufir and Gurney are fiercely loyal to House Atreides and pretty much considered family to them.
Went to see this movie after only reading the first book. Saw that spider thing and turned to my friend who had read the whole series and asked, "what was that?!" they go "I have no idea! wtf was that?!"
Only @7:45 and already sure the moment when Formal went full Mentat calculating the number of viewers this would have with his eyeballs rolled up is going to be my favorite part of this whole reaction. 🤣 Except for maybe calling the Sardaukar "Sauerkrauts..." Can't wait for you to get to Part II as it is even more EPIC than Part I. There are ZERO slow stretches in Part II. I give this film an A but Part II is an A+++. @44:00 {SPOILER for this film only} Paul can see the future as the Kwisatz-Haderach, multiple futures. And he can try to select which futures come to pass (like the knife fight with Jamis) based on the things he decides to do. (NO SPOILERS BELOW) @44:40 The Fremen are not sandwalking because they are on rock. You only need to sandwalk when crossing open sand where the worms live. There are over twenty books in the Dune Universe (only the first six by Frank Herbert). These two movies are just the first book. I read the first three books as a teenager in the 1980s and was hooked. Most people regard Dune as the LOTR of Science-Fiction (0r Azimov's Foundation Books - now a well done series on Apple??). I'm now in the process of trying to read all the Dune books in retirement (presently in book 3). Atreides! Atreides! Atreides!!
The shields have rendered bullets and other projectiles useless because of their velocity. The slow blade is the weapon of choice. brilliant and original writing.😎
Just know that the TV show being promoted isn't from Dune canon. They're making it up with a license. So whether or not it ends up being good, it won't really be the same thing. But these 2020s movies are canon; very faithful adaptations of the original novel by a serious fan. The 1984 adaptation was much less faithful (the guy didn't even read it). And there's a 2000 TV miniseries version that was faithful but lacked budget - still good though.
It's partly based on a book written by Herbert's son, whether you call that canon or not is up to you, (the books he wrote specifically). That said, this show is officially part pf the same Dune universe that the movies take place in, so this isn't like the Arrowverse and DC or Netflix's Marvel and MCU.So from that perspective it is now canon, for the movie's universe that is.
@@8301TheJMan I usually don't consider franchises to be canon. Quality is too unreliable. Go with core source material by the original author every time.
@@8301TheJMan The point is the film and TV things are almost unrelated. Villeneuve adapted the Frank Herbert book, that people considered impossible. Whatever HBO is doing is much easier, which makes me suspicious.

Star Wars is classic good vs evil story, Dune is more grey, it's a revenge story, there are no truly good people, both sides commit terrible attrocities. As a character arc, Luke is more a hero, in the books Paul kind of becomes a monster. In the movies the soften Pauls character a bit because he'd be too unlikable.
@@deltoidable Oh, i wan't meaning in terms of story, more individual concepts and imagery, Like The Voice being Force powers, desert world and the Sand people, a religious seeming order operating behind the main power structure of the setting, etc etc

(Baron Harkonnen and Piter De Vries were delighted that there were able to break Yueh's Imperial Conditioning - it should not have been possible.)
that mouse in the desert don't drink it own sweat, it uses it's ears to catch the morning dew, that then gets funneled down to it face, and it can then "grab it" and drink it... there's around 12000 adult sandworms on the planet, which are called that when they reach 400 meters, just shy of a quarter mile, but they get much much longer as u saw in the 2nd movie, that are called Grandfather sandworms, which are around 2000 meters, aka 2km, just under 1.5 mile, and they make out around 10% of them, so 1200... u need to be able to HEAR the voice for u to do what was said, so a deaf person is safe from it...
You're right. Jamis did show Paul the way of the desert because Paul had to learn their way. There's no yielding. I love both Dune Part One and Dune Part Two a lot of different reasons but I really love Part One because of the mythology, mysticism, and how it takes it's time telling the story. Part Two is meant to finish the first Dune book so this might seem incomplete.
You guys are so cute. But beyond that objective fact, I've read the Dune books... Well, up through God-Emperor of Dune. I saw this movie in the IMax with my little girl, and she was kind of confused about what was going on. But she understood the Duke Leto, and the Lady Jessica. She despised Paul. But now that she's a teenager i'm hoping to get her interested in the books. But Frank Herbert is a lot, gang, he's a whole thing.
15:50 idk why but I agree with both of ya there and its so damn funny jaja i was like mind between past and future what?? and then well this IS sci-fi joint so whatever man right then you said 'why not ???'
15:25, as others have already probably stated the women inside The Bene Gesserit can control their own bodily functions and chemistry to a superhuman level. Because of this they can consciously change their body chemistry to choose the sex of their children. Nothing they do is by chance. So Jessica actually choose to have a son out of love for Paul's father Leto.

I appreciate the fact that you made the effort to read the book and despite disliking such a piece of rubbish, especially considering how much you must love sci fi, you were willing to give the story another chance. It would be understandable if most came to a conclusion like your following having to sit through part 1, but to watch the second film as well is going above and beyond for something you would be justified in hating even if you could not finish it. Its just stupid that after spending what must have been 20 - 30 hours on enduring what must have been awful from the get that it would make any sense to actually justify why its not just something you think is personally bad, but remind the billions of idiots over the past 70 odd years that art is not subjective and if not for people like you we would be stupid enough to think we can make up our own minds and justify what we think by describing what the elements were that made us pretend that the more important issues that you have realised do not need even need the vaguest of identification. i just wish I had the patience you have to spend do much time on reading and watching stories I hate, instead of watching trash I need someone like you to explain why enjoying something for reasons you share with most fans shows how stupid I am for not understanding that trash is a fact I need telling and not just the opinion of someone who does not like it for reasons they have no reason to share. I appreciate your insight and I am sorry for all the morons like me who enjoy things just for liking them, instead of being told what we should take pleasure from. I might have read many of your books without even knowing about it as I understand why you would not want people to know how much you have achieved as one of the best story tellers in history.

But Frank Herbert is a lot, gang, he's a whole thing.
a comment and thumbs up

Fremen use sandworms like Uber rides
15:25, as others have already probably stated the women inside The Bene Gesserit can control their own bodily functions and chemistry to a superhuman level.
Because of this they can consciously change their body chemistry to choose the sex of their children. Nothing they do is by chance. So Jessica actually choose to have a son out of love for Paul's father Leto.
Sear is Poka-dot man from suicide squad!
Time for Dune 2 fellas
lol, UsUaL sCiFi. This was the first grandfather of all sci fi you know. They literally are all copying Dune.
8/10 great movie!
43:30 He sees all possibilities
The Bene Gesserit can control the sex of any child they conceive, there was also a political reason they wanted Jessica to have a son

Skip the early Dune versions. Terrible adaptations imo. Limited by the tech of the time and it shows.
Slowest moving movie
The pronunciation of Harkonnen is garbage in these new movies. Emphasis should be on the HarKONNEN. Draw it out. Sounds much more badass.
read the book, learn a thing.

I’m skipping the show. The low hanging fruit of leaning into the witchcraft theme loses me.
Dune is trash
You're opinion is trash.
