Purine Synthesis (De Novo Purine Synthesis)

  • this video is about important steps and reactions involved in de novo purine synthesis. De Novo purine biosynthesis involves 13 reactions and needs 7 ATP until the formation of inosine monophosphate. de novo purine synthesis starts with PRPP synthesis from PRPP synthetase enzyme, PRPP acts as positive modulator of purine synthesis regulatory enzyme prpp glutamyl amidotransferase. Purine ring has 9 atoms which are contributed by different metabolic intermediates.

      End product of purine synthesis is nucleotide (base plus sugar plus phosphate)

      Thank you. I have explained the important and high yield steps. These are the things that are commonly tested in competitive exams. For internal exams it depends on your professor and how they test these concepts.

    Is there a difference between "synthase" and "synthatase"?
    I looked up Harper's biochemistry and it was referred to as "PRPP synthase"?

      Synthetase utilizes ATP and belongs to ligase group
      Synthase does not utilize energy and belongs to lyase
