Your wiper motor might need some fresh grease but they should speed up a bit anyway when the screen is wet and the engine is running. I've found that treating the screen with Rain X also helps reduce the friction between screen and wipaas, taking a little of the load off of the motor.
Id say weld(or rivet) a stip of metal to the bottom of that plate, that way the bottom screws have something to hold on to. Fun day of diacoveries today, face of mouse house would have been funny though haha
Scuttle panel needs sanding, rust treatment and bonda primer before a top coat of paint or it will be as bad as ever in a few months 😮 Fan is fooked I'd say.
Alright mate!! I'm back off holiday and caught up fully on the Viva antics! Well done sorting the switch out 👍 can you take the heater fan out altogether and put just a live and earth straight to the motor...providing Micky and Minnie haven't got it seized solid!! Watch your fingers!! Definitely weld the scuttle panel up, a few nice tidy little repair panels will have it solid again! Then a flat off, rust cure and paint it black 👌
Wow Steve! I thought that black panel was the actual bulkhead and the thing was full of rust. I was so glad when it started to lift clear. Yes, a few layers of fibreglass should have that looking like new. The mouse pee must have been the culprit in its demise. Great vid, many thanks.
First car I ever took a spanner to was my fatha's Viva way back in 1984, had to replace the starter motor, remember it been a pain in the arse because to get clearance to get the motor out, you had to remove one of the manifolds from the head and move it towards the inner wing
No need to apologize for all the accumulation; such a long time since I looked at one of those dashes, yes thats a light 🚦that heater switch panel they use to call 📞 the escutcheon 😂. Sitting behind the wheel you did actually feel off centre in those HC cars 🚗. Thanks for keeping us ALL entertained Steve ❤😊
I've got a Firenza and some years back found the heater fan had died. I tried to resurrect it and got it to work for about 20 seconds before it started smoking. I picked up a small universal radiator fan off eBay and hooked it up to the original motor loom, only had to modify the fan cowl slightly for it to fit as the fan was slightly bigger than the original and fouled on part of it.
@@RetroRebuild I admire your optimism, but you know as well as I do those fans are best part of 50 years old. That cowl is not terrible once you've dealt with the rusty screws but oddly annoying to get off with the heater pipes going through it as well (with the fragile grommet), you know you don't want to be back in there again after rolling the dice and that old motor fails :)
@@RetroRebuild You too mate, I've enjoyed watching. I'm trying something close to those front springs you used on mine, mine are shot and the original springs are next to impossible to get hold of!
Hello Steve, great video,it seemed awkward to get the scuttle panel off,but I didn't expect the damage of a mouse behind it.the other fan should be better.
Have to be honest Steve im no mechanic but thanks to your channel Ive had the confidence to replace spark plugs ht leads and bonnet lock on my Ford Focus and saved a few pounds in the process so thank you
Thanks for another nail biting/emotional experience 😂 But in all seriousness- thank you for the content - your videos will help future repairs to be carried out by other Viva owners .🎉
Hope ya liked yer oopa loopa sandwich 😀 yes you sat to the right of the steering wheel the pedals are inline with seat though . Possibly why the accelerator pedal is huge on them too . That was some effort getting all them working.. proud of ya.!
Will be interesting to see if you can get the original electric clock working, next to the radio 🤔 Also, when you put the steering wheel back to do the indicator test, did you mount it upside-down - the central "V" hub / spoke looked to be pointing down instead of up.

Another 👍 from me on this video, never change your format it's simple and works great as it is.

The firewall heater box shroud could be tidied up with fibreglass and repainted gloss black ⚫ ❤

Excellent use of 🔨 and screwdriver, simple ideas but effective 👍

Hi your a brave man to take on one of these cars Good Luck and Best Wishes

I've got another Viva, I'm gonna check if the fan works on that and borrow it

@@eradeziel thanks mate 👍 I used mg 1500 springs from mgocspares.co.uk
Some heatproof paint, a good primer, rustproofer and filler should shore things up very well correct.

I think the chevette motor is different to the viva, ill check with my chevy one😂

Buggers them mice.😂
Two oofas is the old imperial standard for steering wheel nut torque. Well done sir.
😆
Miracle that unscrewed 👏 i didnt expect it to be set up like that. 😀👍
A na mate 👍
My first car but mine was a blue one, with a 7 dial magnum dash and steering wheel and a clapped out 1256...70 mph flat out!
Nice! I betya 70mph felt terrifying 😆

Oompa loompa doopa dee doo, yes some actually do read the video description!! lol
😆
Yes i read the description! Good work mate
I'd weld that cover up and repaint it.
I would of took bonnet off for better access it might help Steve if any use.
If I had time I would of mate, but the scuttle was easy enough to squeeze out, maybe for putting it back in 👍
Will be interesting to see if you can get the original electric clock working, next to the radio 🤔

The clock works mate, I've just disconnected it, oh I don't know I'll check!
Nice work again, and yes, we do read the description !
😆👍
At least the scuttle unscrews un like the mk2 escort.
I was thinking the exact same thing 😊
steve, wot condition is the fan and scuttle panel in the green viva? may be a str8 swap over if in better condition?
I'm checking the fan, but it never had a scuttle panel on it unfortunately👍
@@RetroRebuild oh bummer...
@@lucythemoggy1970 a na! Nevermind! I'll sort something out
@@RetroRebuild if you or someone you know can weld maybe you could fabricate the bottom edge?
Test out your fabrication & welding skills to repair scuttle
Mice have maybe messed up heater motor 🐀
Two speed wiper system. Slow and very slow!!

"too busy to tidy the garage"... anybody would think you're holding down a full-time job, restoring a classic car & making TH-cam content... 🙄 😂
😆And renovating a house mate, but I'm not complaining 😆👍
