  • How I deal with an aggressive Hive (thankfully we don't get too many, but this is how I deal with them.) The Queen's pheromone triggers a social response in the bee colony, so in an aggressive colony, we must kill that particular Queen. This particular hive was a little ratty last year, but this year they are terrible. In this video you will see just how aggressive they are, and how after killing the queen, I look for and knock down any queen cells present. I then place a frame of grafted larvae in to produce new queens. I then split the hive into nucs and put a queen cell in each. The queen emerges and goes out to get mated. At the end of the video you will see that the new queen's pheromone is making for a calm happy hive. The queen is laying well and the colony can now carry on and grow. The bees are happy, and this beekeeper 'CERTAINLY IS! '

Perhaps one of the few days we’ve had this year🙈🙈🙈 it’s been awful for the bees hasn’t it?
