4/5 is is quite accurate. I'd be almost tempted to give it a 4½/5. Nowadays Venom Inc. is the band I go to when in need of a bit improved and modernized Venom music. They're killing it. They're almost too good but then again they are clearly continuing where they left off back in the 90s. They were already incorporating new elements to the early Venom sound. So, I guess that leaves them a bit more room to evolve and not just reach out to the past. Cronos & co do kinda have the dirt and fuck you attitude on their latest outputs but the songs aren't just quite there. And never mind how much pioneering originality Cronos had with his vocals I always preferred Demolition Man's more aggressive and versatile approach backed by his precise articulation. I do enjoy listening to both bands though.
Watched them live at Bloodstock in August. They played the entire Black Metal album. Excellent stuff.
Still got to get it. I just got Ave and Prime Evil. Saw Raven a few weeks ago. These old schoolers are killing it.

I think they are equally good, but different. The worst thing about Venom Inc is they changed their name from Mpire of Evil.
I picked it up after hearing Chris talk about it. I really liked Ave Satanas so hearing this new one is just as good sold me on it. I was not disappointed. It’s solid all the way through.

Love this and AVE! love the Demolition Man fronted albums from '89 to '91, Mantas was the key songwriter in Venom. his riffs are classic!
only wish they didn't call the band Venom Inc.... should of called it Prime Evil or Mantas! I'll give There's Only Black a 4/5 also, I just love this album.
I wish they'd just kept it as Mpire of Evil, they did originally use Prime Evil, but changed it to Mpire of Evil. Made a great album too Sad thing about Venom Inc is when they play live, it's just a Cronos era tribute act. They don't even play their own songs.
4 out of 5= absolute nothing wrong with that. As a group , have 8️⃣ or 1️⃣0️⃣ in your discography/ all are 4.0 out of 5.0 = homerun. Thx. Pete 👍💯

If you can get past the cover artwork(?), this album is amazing! Mantas was/is clearly the most important member of Venom. No disrespect to the other guy, he's great too, but this just sounds more legitimate. Makes you go back to their classics with a new understanding.
I saw Mantas saying the art is actually a photo of the largest known Black Hole. So that's actually pretty cool, and leads into the 'There's only Black' theme of the album and his outlook on life since he died on the table.
I thought the artwork was weak but knowing what it is, and what it symbolises has made me appreciate it far more.

There is no Venom without Cronos.
Their debut album was just called 'Avé' not 'Avé Satanas'. But they had a song on the debut album called Avé Satanas. So it's a bit confusing. ;)

Pete, I was long wondering if you happen to enjoy the band Gorillaz. One of my absolute favorites and would love you to check 'em out. They're more on the alternative side which I know you're not a fan of, but their main songwriter Damon Albarn always strives to be as eclectic as possible and combine such a wide range of different genres and colors of popular music into each and every album. If you're interested I'd especially recommend starting out with the albums Demon days and Plastic beach.
I love Gorillaz, too, but based on comments Pete has made, I suspect he'd mightily struggle with the hip-hop elements. On the Albarn front, there might be a better chance of him digging Blur.
A good solid thrash album with an improved production this time around. The cover art is super generic looking though.
We must have heard different albums because although I like this almost as much as Ave, I find the production really stripped down and dry.
Sounds fantastic to my ears.
