THANK YOU, I was having such a headache trying to create a supply chain that would carry goods from my production system down the line of several trade stations. My traders kept pointlessly running goods back and forth between trade stations and (and going out and selling to AI instead of moving my goods) and I was having to use tons of repeat orders to remedy it.

Hi thanks for the vid but I'm still not getting it right... must the trade hub be in the same sector as all the other station also what settings are you using on all the other stations to push to the trade hub?

I was just about to start looking into this as the repeat orders were clogging up my list. I've been playing for 2-3 weeks now and your videos have helped me quite a bit.
    Got a few questions tho:
    1. What determines that a station is categorized as a trade station? Just dock/pier+storage?(just like defense stations need an administrative center)
    2. if I set up a hub, I would only need to assign traders to the hub and set them under different groups for in-sector and export? Or would each production station need it's own trader to send it's wares to the hub?
    3. so far, I've only built self-sufficient stations with the only input being from miners and my worker upkeep station(tho they are almost all in 18 billion). Would it be beneficial for me to make a hub in the first place? I don't have a 5* manager yet.

I will come back one by one to every question, just give me a bit time.
      1. I would say that a trade station is a station that buys active goods and sells them. That can be only from yourseld to yourself or also from other factions. I think the game declares everything as a trade station that has only storage + docking modules and you choose wares to sell and buy. When you build a station that has a defense platform its called defense station but as soon you tell it to buy and sells wares it turns into a trade station. Everything else should be a factory or if you add a production module execpt there are wharf modules or equipment docks. I think they are higher in priority.
What the game calls your stations is ultimately not decisive for how you use them. I also use factories as trade stations as long I dont have the feeling that the trade purpose is not colliding with my production.

      2. The second question is a bit more complex and depends if your stations are in different sectors or in one.
First of all, so far i couldnt find different Blacklist options for different groups. Tthis would be nice if Devs could bring it in the future. Also, as soon a group is declared for trade, you can only assign traders to that group.
So your group would handle In - and Export at the same time as long your hub is in the same system as the production facilities.
What you can do is, if your hub is in a different system than your production, you can give your trader different blacklists. But than you have to assign them to every single trader manualy to overwrite the stations default.
So, some only trade in the production system and some only to where your goods should go.
You can overwrite the stations Blacklist under: Ship informations - Instructions tab - Blacklists.
As soon your hub lies in the same system as the production facilities, the hub traders will automaticly trade with the production as long the trade isnt blocked in some way. So when the hub is in the same system the prodution dont needs his own traders. If the production is in a different system, i would assign some to transport wares to the hub.

      3. If your stations are self-sufficient and you are happy with that, you dont really need one.
But I think trading stations are nice to have to keep an overview over what you need to produce more or less when your station count grows. So you dont have to click thorugh all stations one by one. Or if you want to activly sell to NPC factions, so they can simply buy stuff there.
As soon you build a wharf at some point you have to bundle certain productions anyways. So it wouldnt be wront to set up one early to get the experience with them early.
Some, also just build huge mega factories which have the disadvantage that you can only build one module at the time.
If you need a certain tool, it alway depends on the goal you have in your game. I think there is no 100% yes or no in this game, cause there are many ways to play it. In the end, I can only suggest to learn the options you have and play around with them to see what fits your needs the most. Some players like to go for 100% efficiency and like to trade efficiency for quality of life features.

@immi9748 thanks for the very detailed responses. I'll be trying this tonight.
X4 has been a blast so far but it's very intricate. You help light the way.
