Bravo 👏 👏👏 bro this is the best how to video using stock parts and as budget friendly as you can get. I'm doing more modifications to my engine but this definitely helps. I'm going to put a little turbo on mine but I also want to keep it as factory as possible. I'm literally looking for a HP tuner second hand now
Watching these videos are very interesting. And this one especially when you found out why the Brake and ABS light was staying on. Well for me...I'm not yet doing an engine swap on my 2004 chevy silverado 4.8 V6. W/365,460 miles. I recently replaced rack &pinion it was leaking and boots came off, brake master cylinder, 4 new brake calipers and pads. Top and bottom control arms, ball joints, bushings as well as gave it a 3 inch lift. Now that being said . Yes I blend the master cylinder and brake calipers. All is now fixed the truck stops perfectly fine now., but my ABS light is still on. It originally came on back 2 months ago when my peddle begin to fall to the floor. That's when I had to start replacing old worn out parts. What I noticed was the rack&pinion was grounded to the chassis. And installed the new rack and the old ground wire broke off at the eyelet bolt hole. And I didn't fix it yet as currently as the comment. Wow simple as a ground wire.. Thanks for showing much in detail and explaining your engine swap 👍
Just did this swap on a 2001 with the 5 speed. My tachometer is reading double and my speedometer is super twichy and isn’t working right any clue about that?
I haven't yet, I have 2 trucks I need to do it on, just hasn't been a priority. Will happen soon as we get into winter, less time for shows and driving the trucks, more time to work on them.
Sorry to keep bugging you I got my swap going up and running and everything I have two code I have a battery code and a clean code on both banks can figure it out any suggestions
You may need to alter the signal from the pcm using hp tuners or similar software to make the tach display the correct engine rpm but otherwise V6 cluster will work just fine with the V8
I thought I had hooked it up because I'm typically super diligent about grounds for this exact reason. Must have gotten distracted when I was hooking up the battery wiring and forgot to do that one ground. At least it was a simple fix.
The fuel lines you have to use V8 fuel lines, they connect to the engine differently from the v6 lines, ignition coils are run through the engine harness so you have to use the v8 harness
I’m having trouble getting mine stated it cranks but don’t turn on I have an 2007 truck and used a 05 harness would that be the cause of it not to turn on?
Original truck had the ground battery control module and the one I used didn’t would I need to get a harniss has that? In order to turn on? Thank for the information I really appreciate it
The missing ground battery control module shouldn't prevent it from starting, but there could be a pin in a different location in your 05 harness preventing it from running. I can't remember all the differences off the top of my head, but there are a few important electronic differences between the 06 and 07 classic trucks, vs. the 03 to 05 trucks. Have you tried connecting a scan tool to see if you have any trouble codes to point you in a direction to start looking?
This video is really helpful. I have a question on a swap I’m doing. I have a 2006 Silverado 4.3. I’m dropping in a 2003 4.8 from a Tahoe. The 4.8 it’s dbw I’m trying to make it dbc as the Silverado already is. But the harness is not matching up with the original fuse box out of the Silverado. Any help? Thank you.
You're going to have some challenges. Basically your options are going to be to rework a factory harness to have everything you need for the drive by cable setup, buy an aftermarket harness for drive by cable to match your drive by wire truck fuse panel, or get a harness from a 2006 chevy or gmc van that had a v8 and repin the fuse panel connector to your truck fuse panel connector.
I just replaced my 4.3 Chevrolet Silverado 2000 engine and a 5.3 Chevrolet truck complete with the harness and the computer for the 5.3in I don’t have any lights in the dash I did everything you did in your video. The only thing I didn’t do was what you did in the computer and now when I turn the key on I don’t have any lights in the dash and no crank at all. What do I need to do? Thanks.
Your setting was 6 for v6. You set it to 8 for v8. When you set it to 4 it read super high because you had it set to v4. The cluster will read what your pcm is telling it to read. Thr cluster is the same. Other thrn redline.
Yes you're correct. I actually found that you can make small incremental adjustment in the signal to the tach from the pcm and get it to read right on what the pcm is reading for RPM
I think the only reason he swapped the cluster out was to get the one that had the trans temp in it. I've done cluster repairs and reprogramming, and they're all pretty much the same from 03-07 classic, it's the programming in them that changes. There is also bi-directional communication between the cluser and PCM, so the settings on the original cluster may have over-written the settings in the PCM, but don't quote me on that. I'm no expert on PCM's. Jason understands those a LOT better than I do.
Colin nailed it, I changed the cluster primarily to get the trans temp gauge. You can change the tach output in hp tuners to make your V6 cluster read the correct rpm with the V8 engine.
Been watching videos on v6 to v8 swap. Questions I need to ask. How do you get the truck to pass inspection with the different PCM? What programming should be done to get this done?
Is it easier to put the v8 tune on the v6 pcm or change the vin on the v8 pcm. Or does it make a difference? Asking because I'm am starting my 04 lq9 from a escalade into my 03 sierra 4.3.
Would you be doing a video on how you put the v6 vin into the v8 pcm? And a video on how to get the cruise control to work? Did the gas gauge read backwards?
I can do a video on how someone could hypothetically put the V6 VIN into the V8 PCM, I would NEVER do something like that though, that would be tampering with emissions components. Yes when I get to the cruise control I will document that as well. Gas gauge reads correctly.
@MohawkMotors thank you! Reason I ask is because when I do my v6 to v8 swap on my silverado I want the vin to match so when I get the state inspection every year I pass and not fail due to having the ecu reading a different vin.

Speedometer could be a loose connection if it's twitchy. Tachometer can be adjusted in the pcm, sometimes the calibration in pcm's is not the same.

Does a v6 cluster require any programming to work with a v8? Specifically an 05 LQ4 into an 04 4.3 manual truck.
