Great video. I've got a V6 '99 Silverado that I want to hang on to but wishing to replace the engine with a crate motor long block V8. Have done some VW and Toyota engine swaps years ago but this is definitely a bigger job. I'm getting schooled by you guys. Thanks for this preliminary education. Much needed. Lotta prep required.

I’ve done this job and many others like it and I will say that you do not need to remove the fenders. If you have a separated motor and transmission, you can drop in the motor over the radiator support. Removing the fenders and just sliding a motor in is very nice, but with how simple these motors are, removing the fenders is often not worth it. Especially when the body lines Are already nice and straight, they often don’t go back on the exact way they were. Aside from that, great video and nice truck👍🏻

Hey, appreciate it and thanks! I’m not sure if I mentioned it on the video but we were changing some other items aside from the swap so it just seemed easier to remove it all, that way it also helped record better angles for the video.

Compare the bottom of the connectors that plug in to the fuse box in general most colors should be the same. Aside from reworking the wires yourself or taking it to a electrician shop you can switch the whole wiring harness and computer to the correct set-up. Sounds like you have a drive by wire set-up on a drive by cable vehicle.

The older engines 99-02 (drive by cable) have a different setup and you would need to move some wires around to get it to fit on your current fuse box.

The difference is where it plugs into the fuse box. U can see a black square-ish connector and compare the wires (colors) they won’t line up and then you’ll need a electrician it’s a way bigger hassle than just getting the correct one you need from the beginning.

There is a TAC Module that plugs into the engine harness and goes bolted to the firewall by the booster, and then it has a small harness that goes from the module to the gas pedal. You can briefly see it at 16:53 before we actually bolted it to the firewall and installing the pedal.

If doing oem harness you need the drive by cable harness not the drive by wire with electric pedal. Unless your doing a complete swap harness you may have the wrong one now. With that you would just have to wire in the gauges yourself and the transmission for the neutral safety switch and the reverse lights. You get a pedal and ecu with a baseline tune to start up and take it to dyno tune yourself later! Shoot me a message i would love to see the progress on this!

I already had to replace one of the upper/intake side fittings because they had the metal fuel line bent a little causing it to leak and they chewed up the threads on the AN fitting somehow. It really is easy though bro. I could order lines for days and fittings and do these swaps all day long.
