- There seem to be some Pokémon that could have been given better types. In this video, I go over which Pokémon those may be and what types they should get! What are you thoughts? While Lurantis IS based on the orchid mantis it is meant to be the oposite of it. The orchid mantis is an insect that looks like a flower, Lurantis is a flower that looks like a mantis. It not being a bug type while looking like one is intentional and it shouldn't be changed.

Also fomantis(like faux mantis) meaning fake mantis. The Japanese name also implies the same thing meaning pseudo mantis.
Yeah, I pretty much agree with all those typings, but I would like to also add the Dark-type to the Drowzee line, considering their habit of abducting children. Sounds pretty dark to me.

What is it with people ONLY thinking of dark type as something evil and purely villain-like? I know it was intended to be like that before the translation, but come on, do you really wanna tell me Pokémon like Umbreon are evil? The dark type doesn't necessarily have to be redirected to a Pokemon's actions, and the dex entries should be taken with a grain of salt from time to time. The dark type can also represent night-related stuff, or shadow-related stuff. Eevee evolves into Umbreon *during night time* , hence the dark type. Doesn't mean it's evil, it's just related to night time

@@dhitkill194 Because in the end, the night is still symbolic of malice and misfortune. Plus Umbreon is known to still use dirty tactics and trickiness.

Arbok being poison and dark is really nice to me I wish they would’ve granted it to Arbok

I feel like Arbok should have a unique move for itself, stronger than Bite (weaker than Crunch) with a Poisoning-secondary effect.

I've been saying this for a while, but I think there's an argument (even if mostly a jokey one) for Porygon-Z to be a Electric/Bug type. Electric for the reasons you gave, and Bug because it clearly has a Bug in its code. It's a punny/ silly reason, but one I like.
That's kinda clever, yeah, I can see that work, but it feels way more natural for it to be normal type since normal type represents things like virtual things, sound and even things you can't just categorize into something that actually falls into the regular type patterns of Pokemon, yk?

Edit: Kommo-o is fighting type because of it's heavy emphasis on their Warrior's Spirit. This is evidenced by Clangorous Soul, which provides a boost to all stats in exchange for 30% of it's max HP, and Clangorous Soulblaze which also provides this boost, but deals damage to all opponents instead of sacrificing HP.
Ah yes taking all the single typing Pokemon and making them dual typing, BRILLANT why didn't I think of that!? (sarcasm btw).
Look If youre if gonna do/ put in the thumbnail "fixing the Pokemon typings" than actually make Pokemon with dual typings that should make sense like what you did with Kommo-o at the end,this was just too obvious. Some examples.
Solgaleo psychic/steel>psychic/fire
Tyranitar rock/dark> rock/dragon
Gyarados water/flying> water/dragon

@@akilcharles3473 Solgaleo would be Steel/Fire if anything as it's typing/design represents an alchemical metal that can absorb gold which is represented as the sun.
Luxray can't be a dark type pokemon because "lux" means light in latin.
Doesn't dark mean something more like evil? I feel like luxrays dex entries certainly delve into evil territory (with the whole hunting prey with its vision and all), and it's design also fits typical dark type design tropes.
the thing with Blastoise is that by giving it the steel type it loses both the weakness to the grass type and also the resistance to fire, completely breaking with the idea of the starters
Not to mention that it would be completely immune to poison and Charizard's flying-type moves wouldn't do much damage either.
Water/rock or maybe water/ground would both work without causing those issues.
Not ground, that would be swampert 2.0, rock seems to suit better
Not to mention ground is unnefective against flying and Blastoise is supposed to beat Charizard
Psyduck and Golduck not being psychic still baffles me every time I remember it, it's just absolutely wild.
Re: Porygon, I actually much prefer it being Normal to anything else. The whole point is it's digital and therefore completely removed from the natural world, and Normal is the closest we have to a "typeless" type.
I disagree one lurantis. Its not a bug. Its a plant pretending to be one. :D

Gyarados - Water/Dragon ( tho this is the least important )
Ninetales - Fire/Fairy
Meganium - Grass/Fairy
Hisuian Typhlosion already has a dual typing so Typhlosion being pure fire is Okay.
Furret - Normal/Ground
Dunsparce - Bug/Ground
Chansey line - Normal/Fairy
Sceptile - Grass/Dragon
Masquerain - Bug/Water ( give it levitate instead of flying type )
Ninjask - Bug/Dark ( give it levitate instead of flying type )
Banette - Ghost/Normal
Milotic - Water/Dragon ( like Gyarados, change its typing when it Mega Evolves, if Miloticite existed, to say, water/fairy ). Or just make it's base form Water/Fairy
Bastiodon - Pure Steel ( Because it's so awful with Rock/Steel )
Kricketune - Bug/Normal
Spiritomb - Ghost/Rock ( then improve its stats )
Serperior - Grass/Dragon
Once again, Hisuian Samurott exists with a dual typing.
Conkeldurr - Fighting/Rock
Cofagrigus - Ghost/Steel
Meltan line - Steel/Poison
Pincurchin - Water/Electric
EDIT: Forgot the usually pitched Electivire and Zeraora. They should be part fighting too.
I think one of the reasons Sceptile and Serperior arent Dragon is because GF generally likes to preserve that Rock/Paper/Scissors element of the starters. Blaziken and Emboar would only deal neutral damage to their counterpart, and would need a secondary typing to compensate for that (Blazkien could be made Flying, but it doesn't entirely fit and what could Emboar be that would give it the extra edge).
It may also be GF just loves making draconic Pokemon that aren't Dragon type.
Ghost/Steel Confagrigus in Gen 5 would have been interesting.

And some ideas, viz. Ghost/Steel type Cofagrigus and Bug/Normal Type Kricketune and giving it boomburst, are actually the ones I saw in a hack and I liked the type change.
Ninjask as Dark doesn't Make sense and also he have one of the BEST abilities, levitate its just awful for it
@@sandrocastanero3759 The thing is, Ninjask doesn't itself benefit from speed boost because it's already so freaking fast. And baton pass is banned in most tournament forms.
Of course, that is a fantastic ability in normal playthrough so probably make speed boost a secondary ability.
@Humuhumunukunukuapua'a I actually made those suggestions based on appearance, origin and the little we know about them.
Of course, Chansey and Blissey would be broken but Serperior I think would be fine a Dragon/Grass Serperior like in Inclement Emerald is as good as a Volcarona; not completely broken like Dracovish but still pretty strong.
I think shieldon being Rock / Steel and Bastiodon being pure steel is fine; it's opposite to the Archen line. Also, Gen 8 fossils aren't rocks like you said so this would further lessen the weightage of condition being a rock type.

Other type changes include possibly making Ninetales Fire/Fairy, Meganium Grass/Fairy, Sunflora Grass/Fire, Granbull Fairy/Fighting, Swablu Fairy/Flying then Altaria's regular form Dragon/Fairy, Electivire Electric/Fighting, Serperior Grass/Dragon, Beartic Fighting/Ice, Rillaboom either Grass/Ground, Grass/Fighting, or Grass/Dark, Cinderace Fire/Fighting or maybe Fire/Flying since it learns flying type moves, Inteleon either Water/Dark, Water/Ice, or Water/Flying. Eiscue should be Water/Ice, Sirfetch'd Fighting/Flying, Galarian Rapidash Fire/Fairy, Grapploct Water/Fighting, Pincurchin Water/Electric, Falinks Bug/Fighting or Fighting/Steel
Those are good options!
Kantonian rapidash needs to be fire/fairy, and adds fairy to ponytas
Granbull being Fairy/Fighting would make my Fighting Gym Leader fantasy complete

Why should Sunflora be Grass/Fire?
I would include Seviper instead of Grumpig as Poison- dark and Hypno as Psychic- dark, Gyarados as Water- Dragon, Tyranitar as Ground- Dark, Kantonian Persian as Normal- Dark, Pinsir as Bug- Fighting (like Herracross), Kabutops as Bug-Rock/ Water, Dusknoir as Ghost- Dark, the Gigaith line as Rock- Ground, the Mudsdale line as Fire- Ground and Zeraora as Electric- Fighting. I agree with the rest of the choices in the video and the comment section though..
The only reason gigalith isn't rock/ground is because we need more pure rock types
@@dhitkill194 which is totally fine. But I would add the ground typing because rock is one of the worst typings in the type chart (a lot of weaknesses plus it is not immune to electric). It is fine the way it is, but I think it could use it in a playthrough more easily as a rock- ground type, like its counterpart Golem..
Kabutops being Bug Rock don't Make sense, is not a bug, its a trilobites...

Lurantis should be pure grass is based on the orchid mantis a mantis that fakes to be an orchid a flower for attacking his preys but in reverse is a flower that fakes being an insect and floargess is the only one that should be a grass fairy flabebe and floette are just fairy with flowers so they aren't flowers but floargess has no exuses

Agreed! Florges in its final form combines with its favorite flower making it logical for the added Grass typing.

I agree with most of those, and I would add Haxorus to the list as well: it's an armored dragon with an AXE for a face, how is that not a dragon + steel type?
This list is literally the typings in romhacks. Which makes them more viable in battles. Great video!
I honestly think Kanto could have been remixed heavily for spicier typings:
• Blastoise and Kingler could gain steel types so we get a new special and new physical steel for those cannons and armor
• Porygon being Electric/Psychic is solid and I can vibe with that
• Adding Dark to Primeape, Fearow, Arbok, Gyarados, and Hypno would help add diversity
• Adding Ghost to Marowak given its concept and home makes sense to me, but I can see Hypno as ghost as well, really tying in that nightmare Baku feel
• Lastly I think giving Arcanine Dragon and Ninetales Fairy or Ghost can help round out flavor, diversity, and mythological concepts.
I'd rather Kanto mons get better abilities or actual type change instead of it being a different form or evolution. Clefable is like the best example of this. magic guard + becoming fairy. If we were to talk about giving mons abilities we can give the starters their mega abilities and Gengar levitate. also maybe change some of the normal/flying mons to pure flying with an ability change

I think the starters getting their Mega Abilities (thick fat, mega launcher, and tough claws) could've been really nice. And with the general power creep I'd be down for seeing some more BST updates, especially if games are going to use a cozy dex of 300-400, they all deserve a little love
Theres an actual canon reason why Golduck isnt a psychic type: too much brain damage from headaches.
0:53 That makes sense, but I always thought that the Goomy family should have been part Poison. They're purple and goopy, two traits associated with Poison types.
even bug sorta makes sense, they just gave up so much wasted potential by making it pure dragon

Another missed opportunity for a Bug/Dragon type. That would really have made them memorable. I love that family but it isn't nearly as popular as other psuedos like Garchomp.
Dragon/water, dragon/poison or even dragon/fairy could all fit.

Mismagius should be a Ghost/Fairy pkmn with his theme being magic. Also Braviary should be Flying/Fighting, he looks like a warrior bird lmao
Yanmega as a Bug/Dragon type would be really cool and make it much more usable and it would've make me use it for once

Pokemon is made by japanese people. Dragonflies dont have dragon in the name in every language

Dark type Feraligatr with Crunch and Strong Jaws. Imagine what it could do
Tsareena and Lurantis always seemed too samey to me, unique second typings definitely help. Also Celebi should become a Grass Fairy type.

Gen 1 was psychic heavy and already had two water/ psychic Pokémon. I think that’s the only reason Golduck didn’t get the psychic typing, but I’m totally down for gamefreak giving it to him retroactively. But, it’s been so many generations and they haven’t done it, so I don’t see it happening. Maybe a regional type??
I definitely agree with all of these, besides the lurantis line since being a grass instead of a bug is its gimmick. I wish these types were canon.
Cresselia being fairy and physic was correct since it fought off Darkrai and being physic is going to be bad.

Darkrai should be Dark/Ghost to pair with Cresselia’s Psychic/Fairy. They would both be super effective to one another.

I would disagree with Fomantis &Lurantis one strongly because it actually is supposed to be orchid that looks like a mantis, but this was pointed out to you already. But Arbok propably should have been poison & dark. And is there really any reason why Golduck is not psychic?
usually i don't like retyping vids at all but you have a good point for all of these. porygon line is my favourite and psychic/electric has always been the type combo i wish it had.

Arbok is just an average animal and probably just gained those markings through evolution (darwinian evolution not pokémon evolution) because of its need to fend off predators or smth
The normal type doesn't just mean plain type, it also can mean miscellaneous type or undefined type hence porygon being normal
The probopass line can still be steel type given that metals can be magnetic anyways
Oh yeah and yanmega being dragon bug only makes sense to English speakers since dragonflies aren't called dragonflies or something that literally translates to "dragon fly" in a lot of other languages
That porygon suggestion makes SO MUCH SENSE THO! I like what you said about Arbil’s typing but here is my suggestion. I think what GameFreak could have did but dropped the ball on was allowing Seviper to become the evolved form of Arbok; then having Seviper to be a poison/dark type instead.
If Feraligatr dex entry said: "it shakes the head of his victims and play with the corpses" NOW THAT WOULD BE DARK-TYPE FOR SURE!
The point of dark types is that is the evil type not what animals-can-do type, Feraligatr is not evil or do evil stuff. Meowth plays with their prey and look! It got a dark version!
I would make Meganium part Psychic and Typhlosion part Fighting to balance it out.

@@sirwolfy9372 flying types aren’t affected by Spikes and Power Gem isn’t a common move. Stealth Rocks would be the biggest issue for fire/flying Blaziken, in addition to it being a rooster which really can’t fly in the first place.
Psyduck and Golduck being water/psychic, Blissey normal/fairy, Celebi fairy/grass, Absol dark/psychic, Cresselia psychic/fairy, Manaphy water/fairy, Cinccino normal/fairy, Gligar and Gliscor poison/flying, Meloetta aria form fairy/psychic, Meloetta pirouette form fairy/fighting, Inkay and Malamar dark/water,
Lucario fighting/psychic, Incineroar fire/fighting, Fomantis and Lurantis grass/bug, Tsareena grass/fighting, and Galarian Yamask and Runerigus rock/ghost

another I wanna add is gengar, dark/ghost, I mean it's whole thing is how it likes to hang around in shadows and put curses on people (and probably pokemon)

i think blastoise being water steel while it would be cool but that would mean venusaur couldnt hit it with a stab super effective move making blastoise the best out off all the kanto starters when it comes to fighting against one another again it would be cool but if venusaur didnt get a type change to combat the water steel typing it would be to unbalanced

If Blastoise becomes Water/Steel you might as well make Charizard Fire/Dragon so Blastoise's Water type moves do normal damage on Charizard while Venusaur's grass moves do normal damage on Blastoise, though one Ice Beam on Blastoise could knock out Venusaur super effectively, or Earthquake can knock out Fire/Dragon Charizard. Earthquake on Charizard could knock out Venusaur or Earthquake on Venusaur could knock out both Fire/Dragon Charizard or Water/Steel Blastoise. But Charizard can learn Thunder Punch and I think at least one Fighting type move to cover Blastoise. Water/Steel Blastoise would be broken, neutral to Erika's grass types, immune to Koga's poison moves, but be weak to Giovanni's faster ground types and then resist Lorelai, immune to Agatha's poison types, resist Lance's Dragon and Flying moves, and one Ice Beam from Blastoise all of Lance's dragons are down and out.
If Venusaur has either Earthquake or Earth Powder it could hit a Water/Steel Blastoise for super effective damage
I think water/rock or water/ground would also work for Blastoise. It gets a secondary typing while maintaining the trio's balance.
@@billdeco08 starter trios are supposed to maintain an actual type advantage though. That's why Torterra becomes a ground type at the same stage Empoleon becomes a steel type.
Despite the mons not caring that much or maybe that being the case I think sometimes Types are meant to be either for competitive potential to a degree even if they don't think like that or because it would be unique as certain mons feel like they have types to be unique.
Think about that whole Fiasco with Galar Pony even though I still believe that line should purely be it or gain the Psychic type as evolving and Gaining a type is understandable it can be part of evolution and the world but then I would change the type gained as the Psychic feels like a better type to gain than Fairy in a narrative sense (IMO).
Some unique types are with Normal like how can you be Normal yet be another type but it's fine sometimes.
Volc which makes sense but Fire/Water.
Mimikyu being Ghost/Fairy instead of a Pure Ghost or a Ghost Electric.
Rotom HEAT!
Alola Chu.
Galar Darman Zen mode.
Kyurem.
Girafarig.
Torna(Sunder)dus being a PURE FLYING type. Yes that's more rare than expected.
Gyrados... Bruh... Who looks at that or it's Mega form and says Water/Flying or Water/Dark?
Wooper and Quag do not look like Ground types even if their Dex explains that.
I legit thought Breloom was a different line than Shroomish for the longest time because of it's Fighting type.
What I'm trying to say is that while I think some mons deserve certain types I feel like maybe one day that can be achieved in a different way or just a different form but others maybe just deserve it from the get go.
I do like some of the Suggestions you gave here but I wonder about making Blastoise Steel since that would Neg Vena ever having a Chance at Countering it as it's Poison type moves would become Ineffective and it's Grass type moves would be Neutral and unlike Torterra it doesn't gain stab from Ground type to mess it up or from Fighting like the Ape yeah Empoleon really got Hoe'd in it's GEneration.

The fighting type is weird so that one is hard.
I think Magnetic can refer to Electric or Steel which is why that Family is that type so I honestly don't mind but prefer what we have.
Like Magnets have part of them being steel.
I think while they might not completely care about the Competitive side I mean Site Zacian and examples they still probably added the STeel type because they thought it would make a powerful Defense and Offense I mean look at Mega Aggron Filter + Losing the rock type to become Pure Steel they knew what they were doing!
If Feraligatr gets to be a water/dark type, I say the other Johto starters should get dual typings as well.
Typhlosion can be fire/ground since badgers live in burrows and are excellent diggers. Additionally, this means it and Feraligatr reflect the aces of the following region's evil teams.
For Meganium, grass/fairy is the obvious choice if we aren't worried about the type limitations from Gen 2. If we are, grass/poison or grass/steel work decently well with Meganium's design and defensive nature.

I could also see Water/Dragon with Feraligatr
@@rkvlegacy9206 that could only work if Meganium is a fairy. Even then, dark seems more appropriate since Feraligatr isn’t really dragon-like in the same way Charizard or Gyarados are.
I don’t understand why Necrozma is not a dark type. It literally consumed all the light in a dimension.
I disagree with Probopass and Feraligatr. Probopass is a magnet pokemon, definitely should have the steel typing. Dark type doesn't need to be evil, they just need to have a dark appearance (except maybe Shiftry line and Crawdaunt). And Feraligatr looks far from it

I actually wouldn’t change romantic and lurantus because the whole point is they’re based on plants that look like hugs (a spin in hugs that look like plants) that’s why their names are basically feaux mantis and lure mantis

But also, Incinaroar should be a Fire and Fighting type, Ocktolock a Water and Fighting type, Malamar evolutionary stage a Physic and Water type, Magmorter and Magmar Fire and Ground type, and just have the Amoonguss and Parasect evolutionary stages not have the duel typing of grass, since mushrooms are not part of the plant kingdom.
Inceneroar is a heel wrestler which is the "evil" wrestler and plays on the fact that wrestling as seen on tv is fake.

Malamar is evil and it's psychic. I've seen inkays and malamar spawn on land more than I've seen them in water (then again, I've only caught them in gen 8)😊
Thank you for finally saying that Goodra should be Dragon/Water! I’ve honestly gotten tired of people saying he should be dragon/poison but I just feel like Dragon/Water is better in almost every regard.

If Luxray being black is a reason to be Dark type, then by that same logic Lucario should be Water type and Seaking should be Fire type. This logic falls apart very easily and doesn’t make sense tbh.

Electric Dark is the general concensus for Luxray, mostly due to his stats. It's odd they never change Rivalry for something more related to precision/eyes (something like Keen Eye, No Guard, or Infiltrator). Pretty sure he would have loved Pursuit, if he had access to it (he never did, oddly enough).
If we talked about the 2nd gen starter, I would have made Feraligatr a Water/Fighting type (His shape is kinda Sumo-like). Typhlosion being Fire/Ground is ok, it works, Fire/Dark does tempt me though . Meganium is your usual goody, Grass fills that role. Normal or Fairy, maybe?

Torterra added the Ground type to counter Empoleon but Venusaur’s Poison typing would be ineffective against Blastoise Steel. And the fact it could learn Ice moves unless Venusaur has Thick Fat.

Not sure I would make crecelia a fairy type, the psychic type isn't just telepathy or powers of the mind but shares the theme of astrology, celestial bodies etc. Similar to gothitelle, she isn't an inheritably bad mon that I would put as a dark type, she's just an astrologer.
One pokemon I would add a type too is Cofragigus, making it a Ghost/Rock type which we still haven't had in the series yet.
Your addition of dark type to arbok tho would have been a good addition to at least give gen 1 some dark type to work with.

While it would make sense to add steel type to blastoise, that would be op. Adding the rock type still makes sense and is balanced (I know the cannons are made of metal but overall it's whole body looks hard as a rock but not as hard as steel)

Inceneroar is based on the heel wrestler and plays on the fact that the WWE and other wrestling sports like that aren't real fighting. Plus, gamefreak probably didn't wanna outrage fans by introducing yet another fire/fighting starter

Dragon only weak to Ice and Fairy and Emboar doesn't fit those types so I guess they just have to deal with it or get a signature move to counter them and Fire still Neut.
I also like Fairy to them Ghost Gals.
Drampa should be a dragon/fairy type because one, it just looks like it could be a fairy type. Two it's personality also fits the fairy type. And three, Mega Altaria isn't available in the more recent generations (prior to alola).
I'd say that Goodra could be Dragon/Poison, but that would conflict with dragalge introduced in the same generation.
Ninetails should be Fire -Ghost/Psychic based on its lore and dex entries, Absol should be dark/fairy, Meganium grass/fairy, add ghost/dark to Drowsee line, Parasect should be ghost/grass since the bug is technically dead. G. Farfetch'd should be Fight/Flying, Girafarig shoule be psychic/dark. Steel to the Remoraid line, Psychic on Stantler, Fairy on Blissey, Rock on Torkoal, Swablu line Fairy/Fly, Fairy on Luvdisc & Amolamola, Poison on Aromatisse

Hard disagree with the tsareena type change. Just because something has a strong body part doesnt mean it should be fighting type. Fighting types are all usually based on a style of fighting and being honorable something tsareena is not. I dont think ruthlessly kicking your downed opponents while you laugh at them is something worthy of the fighting type
I mean, Scrafty and Pangoro exist. They may have some honor when it comes to defending their comrades but Pangoro is stated to be hyper violent towards pretty much everyone else and Scrafty is literally a delinquent that gangs up on and beats down unsuspecting opponents. The latter even spits acid on/near them according to several Dex entries.

I agree with basically all of these! But Milotic should be water dragon. It’s a serpentine pokemon that learns a handful of dragon moves compared to a one fairy move. I don’t think just because it’s beautiful it should be fairy 😊

Gastly is based on poisonous gas so it makes sense why Gengar is a poison type. Gengar is the single biggest representative of the poison type so removing poison type might be a bad idea, especially when dark types already have so many popular Pokémon.

I wouldn't change feraligtr's type. Feraligtr is a crocodilian, all of them do this to either catch or kill prey. Giving it the dark typing would be like making every predatory pokemon the dark typing. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Steel makes sense for probopass though. And it’s the same reasons that electric works (magnetism using metals)

I would only make Florges a grass type as flabebe and Floette are just carrying the flower. If charizard was holding a flower would you consider it grass type? No. But in florges design the flower becomes part of it

Luxray being dark type would be kinda dumb. It´s not evil or has anything to do with darkness, quite the opposite its name is litteraly "light ray" and has X ray vision. Maybe it can see in the dark but that is a really weak reason. The dark type is called the evil type in japan and most dark types are dark types because they have some malcious charcteristics or fight dishonorably
