Masakado's back after being suspiciously absent from the base game. His theme actually is his theme from IV, it's the exact same track to boot which is neat. As a boss he's weak to everything, unlike the Masakados Magatama Nulling everything or the boss version of Masakado's Shadow also having all immunities. As an ally he's basically the single best demon ally in a vacuum and can lead to many overpowered cheese strategies.
if you don't cheese the hell out of him he's not what i'd call a pushover he's very inconsistent for being "scripted" though, sometimes he'll vaporize you with freikugels and sometimes he just farts around
> Just another scripted pushover ''super'' boss that has piercing skills other than his Almighty Freikugel and signature skill that he didn't even use during this. This is actually funny especially when least one video where he positively spammed it when he was in very low HP. Buffie gotta built different
what i did to win was make a lahmu with taunt and almost all repel/drain so that naho's thalassic calamity could crit, use konohana sakuya for support, and of course figment slash arioch with a bunch of dead demons in my stock. omagatoki savage also helped. i also used health incenses on my lahmu and stacked endure+enduring soul on naho and my demons
I'm currently preparing for Demi-Fiend but this fight seems a bit too boring/tedious to setup with.. Especially with how his moveset works will probably attempt a run in the future.
So, does this mean that I have to play through the canon of vengeance timeline at least once to obtain his sword, then play through a SECOND canon of creation story(because I JUST started one earlier this afternoon.) to complete this quest line?
The Kiou sword is only to unlock the super boss version of the fight. Masakado can be fought in coc regardless of the Kiou sword. Just make sure you have Yoshitsune in your party when you reach Chiyoda and that’ll start a quest chain to getting masakado.
The kiou sword is only to fight the very difficult version, where if you do beat him, you gain no extra rewards than beating him normally. The reward for beating the very difficult version is satisfaction.
Because Fighting this Boss is not particularly fun. Even though Masakado is weak against everything, he has too much health where not cheesing him would just waste your time.
I think you are supposed to "cheese him" He's got 7 turns and he instakills anything with less than 150 vitality if you don't debuff him, but if you do he will instakill nevertheless because of crit boost. All his attacks besides his signature are single target so Taunt + defense at least@@minimum_ray6388
an arioch rampage with omagatoki savage + pandemonic feast + shining dragon scales does colossal damage to masakado it's insane, it's like madness crush from strange journey. using hecatoncheires (he has pandemonic feast) as your taunt repel/drain demon is wise cause he'll have lots of hp when you get him to level 99. however in godborn mode where i used this rampage strategy i came up with i used cherub because i like cherub
So you play canon of veangance, the with the same game file play Canon of creation? And quick question if you start a creation playthrough and chose to port over your demons, do demons like the qadistu carry over?

unless you happen to have not killed a high level punishing foe in taito, or haven't completed the upper mid tier difficulty quest bosses, in taito there is no real good way to kill em off unfortunately, especially for demons in general since they all have varying weaknesses, resistances, and immunities. just don't do dumb shit like trying to get your Khonsu ra get killed by an adramelch and you'll probably be on the right track
came back and visited this there actually is a really good way to do this, if you haven't beaten the level 99 abcess in taito, go fight it and kill the preta, pixie, and omonraki, after doing so bring out onyankopon and a tetrakarn user of your choosing, (preferably one with diarahan/rama and samarecarm/recarm) you want your party shaped like this: Demon you want dead : Nahobino : Tetrakarn user : Onyankpon Strategy: you always pass on the demon who you want deads turn, then you can guard on nahobino's turn so he doesn't get poisoned (does 700 damage per tick) use tetrakarn on onyankopon, and then use king of tales on the demon you want dead, slime then targets the demon you want dead with poison (90% of the time, but he can also use it on any of your other demons and you) and then he'll hit it with either lunge or a basic attack. then your demon will most likely die the next turn unless they happen to have 800 hp. summon a new demon you want dead, then rinse and repeat, if onyanko gets hit by a physical attack (he's weak to physical) and you haven't used any gospels on him (don't recommend it its not necessary) then just revive him, and DONT BRING HIM OUT THE NEXT TURN BECAUSE SLIME WILL TARGET HIM AGAIN WITH PHYSICAL. bring out the demon you want dead first and if he's already out then just guard and pass respectively, then on the next turn after revival bring him out again and do the same thing all over again. If your demon is immune to poison, then just let them tank the physical attacks, and if they are both immune to poison and physical, you'll have to kill them the hard way. (pitifully weak random encounters since if your doing this you need to be high level or potentially dangerous boss fights)
BEWARE!, it's the MF that Nulls phys! 0:10
At least he got a new job after Demi-fiend kicked him out of the squad.
Seeing the MF who has an inconsistent relationship with physical floating ominously over a cliff is… something

I still have trauma from that fight in smt 4
My only memory of the shadow of masakado fight was 1 turning him with Uriel Kanuki throw
if you don't cheese the hell out of him he's not what i'd call a pushover
he's very inconsistent for being "scripted" though, sometimes he'll vaporize you with freikugels and sometimes he just farts around
I like how when you fight Masakado and get him to low health, his low health stance just looks like he is even more pissed off.

this is a rare situation where a character is isn't that scary as a boss but extremely busted in gameplay.

While I'm hyped to hear his theme from 4, I kinda wish his battle theme from his last superboss fight was here, that theme rules.
I played SMT imagine masakado boss theme while fighting him and it fit much better

Correct
They added him into the baseline game on Vengeance anyhow

Arioch does more damage for each dead demon in your stock so he is the strongest physical attacker in the game if you build for that.
