I have long been a Leonard Cohen fan and I love the way KD Lang performed this a couple different times, but since I have discovered your version several months ago, it has pretty much become my favorite version. Just incredible.

The thing about Lucy is her vibrato. At the end of each verse she trails off with that beautiful, even, symmetrical, perfectly undulating vibrato. Absolutely amazing. As of today (2.9.23) this video has had 29+ million views.

I had to play song over and over to make sure my ears and eyes weren't tricking me. They weren't - Lucy is the real deal. Lucy doesn't copy songs, she improves them. Her rendition of 'Hallelujah' is best I have ever heard, and I have heard dozens before. I have a standing bet no one will beat it. Even if they copied her, they can never do it as well. The song has many millions of view for a good reason - it is talent on a whole new level. Her technical singing skills are amazing; perfect breath control, multi-octave vocal range, exact note placement, her vibrato is so tight it doesn't vary more than a 1/4 note up or down. Her physical delivery skills help listeners connect at a very emotional level. It is as Lucy is standing in front of you singing a solo just for you. She is beyond amazing. I took your suggestion and listened to Alexandra Bruke's rendition of "Hallelujah". In my professional opinion, Alexandra is good, but she is not great. I wouldn't spend time listening to her again. Lucy on the other hand is great. I have listened to her version many dozens of times. Every time I do, I discover another gold nugget I missed before. @@AdamStraughan Thanks for reply. Each person experiences music differently than others. It's the 'Subjective' aspect of rating music. Using 'Objective' criteria is different because it looks at the nuts and bolts of performance. Technically, Alexandra is very proficient. On a subjective level, her style didn't click with me. She is obviously a very good singer, otherwise she wouldn't be at the level she is today. I have to be careful, I don't want to be perceived as 'talking down' another artist. Last year I ranked Angelina and Jackie below Lucy. It really comes down to subjective criteria... you either like them or you don't. I felt both were over rated and in a different level than Lucy. True story: I have been writing very detailed reactions of Lucy's music for almost 2 years. Lucy knows me on a personal level. I have run out of superlatives to use describing total experience watch Lucy perform. She lives in Wigan, just outside Manchester. I told her there was something in the drinking water that helps Brits become so good. Liverpool (Beatles) just west of her and Sheffield (Def Leppard) just to the east of her. Lucy still reads every comment on every post. After reading, she will put a heart next to each one. Social media alone must be huge job. Last year I was trying to get Lucy an audience with the Queen Mother. I knew her time was short. The process is long and formal. Queen Mother passed away before Lucy could perform for her. I told Lucy after the fact. I have always had great respect for the British. I also respected your Queen. I think tradition is important. The Monarch is still relevant. It is also is the bedrock of stability. She reined for a very long time. The opposite in Parliament. You've had 3 PM's back to back in short order. Let's hope King Charles learned something from his mum the Queen.

I actually love watching the reactions from these commenters. They are truly dumfounded as I was the first time I heard Lucy. The pureness of her words is truly impressive. I have always liked music, but never listened to much, because I could not understand the words. With Lucy it is especially special, because I can understand her every word. Glad you got round to listening to Lucy. A semi finalist on The Voice Kids in 2018 age 14. Did that cover at 16. Will be 19 in a couple of weeks. Her voice has matured and strengthened even more since that cover. Many of the duets she has done with her younger sister Martha, who is five years younger, are magical. The killer duet from these two is ‘The Prayer’, done with Lucy at 18 and Martha just before her 13th birthday.

Lucy was 16 when she recorded this. She’s nearly 19 now and she’s only gotten better and better. The duet from last year with her 5-year-younger sister of The Prayer is astonishing. As someone else said here, the version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas from a few months ago worth checking out. It is a vocal master class.
I "Stumbled" upon Lucy on TH-cam, back when I was going through some serious health challenges....mere words cannot adequately describe the elevation of spirit, and healing virtues that her music has procured for my soul !! Hi Adam...Thank you for this excellent reaction. This is the first time I've been on your channel. I came here because you were reacting to Lucy. Firstly, I am very impressed with your comments. You are obviously very knowledgeable when analyzing Lucy's performance. I assume you are a professional in the music business. You certainly know your stuff. I have now subscribed to your channel in the hope that you cover more Lucy. That being said, I have been a huge fan of Lucy for over 2 years now. I first discovered her when I clicked on a link of her singing "Somewhere" (There's A Place for Us). I remember how after hearing her sing 5 words I was mesmerized. Her voice was so beautiful, clear and pure like I'd never heard before. I thought after listening to the entire song that she was the best vocalist I'd heard in my entire life. Since then I've listened to all of her songs (over 60...she has 4 albums) and can not find fault in any of them. To me Lucy is as close to perfection as one can get. You will be very impressed as you study more of her covers. She is a phenomenon that occurs once in a generation or two. Many have said that Lucy is the new Barbra Streisand. Adam, Lucy now has 29 million views of this song in 2 years which says a lot to her popularity. I have seen numerous reactions to this song as well and (I think) most were blown away with her rendition. Like the 4 gentlemen I mentioned earlier, I have been following Lucy for a couple years now since discovering her. Her delivery of each song is so clear, clean and pristine - enunciation of each word and the perfection of her high and low notes are just incredible. Great review of my favourite artist. I'm a long, long time supporter hers and there's one song that gets overlooked by reactors. I'd love to hear your reaction to it. Her version of Fix You has taken what I feel to be quite a dreary depressing song into an anthem of hope. She and producer Chris Broom (an award-winning composer btw) have done the same to it as they did with Hallelujah, in that it's truly her own version with such a crazy great climax. Lucy has now been confirmed as the star of a new musical, Rosie, due to hit the West End next year. (2024).

Congratulations on discovering the greatest singer in the world today and already amongst the best ever and what's more she only just turned 19 and was only 16 when she recorded this. There's so much more where this came from!
So for someone like me, I most appreciate reactors that obviously have some level of expertise in the field they are commentating on; such as you! So yes, I will continue to watch "probably" over and over again, anything that you react to by Lucy Thomas, and/or Her sister! (even though She and Martha have technically have been way over done by any other standard at this point!) So hoping you do more of Her, and Them. But regardless, love your first reaction, even if that ends up being the only one we ever get....as I'll just keep showing It to others.

Here we have Lucy Thomas from GB and you have also reacted on Angelina Jordan from Norway. And I will also mention Amira Willighagen from the Netherlands (she lives in South Africa) and Jadyn Rylee from Canada. Four female singers and each of them has a genre in which they are real outstanding. At the moment they are all about 17-19 years of age and I wonder how it is possible to be that good at that age. It is awesome to be able to discover these artists from everywhere thanks to internet.

Lucy has been signed with Cavendish Records since she was 14 after her appearance on UK Kids in 2018 where she made it to the semi finals at age 13. Yes she has been with the same vocal coach since she was 7 years old, sang her first song for an audience at 8 her Mother Louise recorded and at 9 Sang COLORS OF THE WIND, at ten recorded RUN on the beach, at 11 recorded LET IT GO, at 13 on the uk Kids MOON RIVER and she re recorded MOON RIVER at 18, she has 4 CD's out and about 60 songs recorded, and the frosting on her cake she has a 5 year younger sister she has recorded 7 songs with starting when Martha was 10 years old, and Martha just turned 13. some songs of the two to listen to are THE CLIMB THE PRAYER...OH HOLY NIGHT....WHEN YOU BELIEVE...YOU RAISE ME UP !!! Songs of just Lucy are THE WAY WE WERE, a cover One of her originals written by Chris Broom and 2022 winner of the song writers comp BROKEN DREAMS, also STAR LIGHT. I've never liked the song because it totally convolutes and mixes the two separate accounts of King David and the Israelite judge Samson in Scripture, and distorts the actual Hebrew meaning of the word "hallelujah." However, I love and adore Lucy Thomas and her sister Martha for the beautiful, endearing, and kindhearted people & artists they are! She is incredibly talented and versatile. She will be starring sometime next year in the play "Rosie" at London's West End, which she co-wrote & co-produced. You should go see it! As Bruce Lee once said 'Be water my friend', meaning when you poor water into a pot, it becomes the pot, poor water into a glass it becomes the glass. When Lucy sings, she is like water, she becomes the song, she sings the song with all her heart and soul, she sings with clarity, smooth control, a beautiful softness, and breath control, she checks all the boxes. So Lucy 'be water my friend'.
She has a beautiful voice! In my opinion however, the best version of this song was performed by K.D. Lang, live at the Canadian Juno awards. Until I heard that version, it was just a song among others. Listening to her I started crying finally getting the deeper meaning. The author Leonard Cohen was in the audience and there's a touching moment at the end of the performance where she shows her respect to him. Lucy is a great voice but for the best version, watch KD Lang at the Junos

The thing to understand is, her voice is going to mature for another 10 years. Lucy will be about 26 before her voice completely matures, she is at the top now, what will another 10 years of maturing do for her voice? We are witnessing a superstar, Lucy Thomas the queen prodigy.

Last year I was trying to get Lucy an audience with the Queen Mother. I knew her time was short. The process is long and formal. Queen Mother passed away before Lucy could perform for her. I told Lucy after the fact.
I have always had great respect for the British. I also respected your Queen. I think tradition is important. The Monarch is still relevant. It is also is the bedrock of stability. She reined for a very long time. The opposite in Parliament. You've had 3 PM's back to back in short order.

I actually love watching the reactions from these commenters. They are truly dumfounded as I was the first time I heard Lucy. The pureness of her words is truly impressive. I have always liked music, but never listened to much, because I could not understand the words. With Lucy it is especially special, because I can understand her every word. Glad you got round to listening to Lucy. A semi finalist on The Voice Kids in 2018 age 14. Did that cover at 16. Will be 19 in a couple of weeks. Her voice has matured and strengthened even more since that cover. Many of the duets she has done with her younger sister Martha, who is five years younger, are magical. The killer duet from these two is ‘The Prayer’, done with Lucy at 18 and Martha just before her 13th birthday.
I am blown away by this girl. She has the most beautiful voice. I just discovered her today and have learned she can sing anything. Reminds me of when I was 14 years old and first heard Elvis Presley. I am 83 years old now. Lucy Thomas you are fantastic. Love, Love , Love to hear you sing.❤
Lucy was 16 when she recorded this. She’s nearly 19 now and she’s only gotten better and better. The duet from last year with her 5-year-younger sister of The Prayer is astonishing. As someone else said here, the version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas from a few months ago worth checking out. It is a vocal master class.
I "Stumbled" upon Lucy on TH-cam, back when I was going through some serious health challenges....mere words cannot adequately describe the elevation of spirit, and healing virtues that her music has procured for my soul !! Hi Adam...Thank you for this excellent reaction. This is the first time I've been on your channel. I came here because you were reacting to Lucy. Firstly, I am very impressed with your comments. You are obviously very knowledgeable when analyzing Lucy's performance. I assume you are a professional in the music business. You certainly know your stuff. I have now subscribed to your channel in the hope that you cover more Lucy. That being said, I have been a huge fan of Lucy for over 2 years now. I first discovered her when I clicked on a link of her singing "Somewhere" (There's A Place for Us). I remember how after hearing her sing 5 words I was mesmerized. Her voice was so beautiful, clear and pure like I'd never heard before. I thought after listening to the entire song that she was the best vocalist I'd heard in my entire life. Since then I've listened to all of her songs (over 60...she has 4 albums) and can not find fault in any of them. To me Lucy is as close to perfection as one can get. You will be very impressed as you study more of her covers. She is a phenomenon that occurs once in a generation or two. Many have said that Lucy is the new Barbra Streisand. I have seen numerous reactions to this song as well and (I think) most were blown away with her rendition. Like the 4 gentlemen I mentioned earlier, I have been following Lucy for a couple years now since discovering her. Her delivery of each song is so clear, clean and pristine - enunciation of each word and the perfection of her high and low notes are just incredible. Great review of my favourite artist. I'm a long, long time supporter hers and there's one song that gets overlooked by reactors. I'd love to hear your reaction to it. Her version of Fix You has taken what I feel to be quite a dreary depressing song into an anthem of hope. She and producer Chris Broom (an award-winning composer btw) have done the same to it as they did with Hallelujah, in that it's truly her own version with such a crazy great climax. Lucy has now been confirmed as the star of a new musical, Rosie, due to hit the West End next year. (2024).

Here we have Lucy Thomas from GB and you have also reacted on Angelina Jordan from Norway. And I will also mention Amira Willighagen from the Netherlands (she lives in South Africa) and Jadyn Rylee from Canada. Four female singers and each of them has a genre in which they are real outstanding. At the moment they are all about 17-19 years of age and I wonder how it is possible to be that good at that age. It is awesome to be able to discover these artists from everywhere thanks to internet.

Yes she has been with the same vocal coach since she was 7 years old, sang her first song for an audience at 8 her Mother Louise recorded and at 9 Sang COLORS OF THE WIND, at ten recorded RUN on the beach, at 11 recorded LET IT GO, at 13 on the uk Kids MOON RIVER and she re recorded MOON RIVER at 18, she has 4 CD's out and about 60 songs recorded, and the frosting on her cake she has a 5 year younger sister she has recorded 7 songs with starting when Martha was 10 years old, and Martha just turned 13. some songs of the two to listen to are THE CLIMB THE PRAYER...OH HOLY NIGHT....WHEN YOU BELIEVE...YOU RAISE ME UP !!! Songs of just Lucy are THE WAY WE WERE, a cover One of her originals written by Chris Broom and 2022 winner of the song writers comp BROKEN DREAMS, also STAR LIGHT. I've never liked the song because it totally convolutes and mixes the two separate accounts of King David and the Israelite judge Samson in Scripture, and distorts the actual Hebrew meaning of the word "hallelujah." However, I love and adore Lucy Thomas and her sister Martha for the beautiful, endearing, and kindhearted people & artists they are! She is incredibly talented and versatile. She will be starring sometime next year in the play "Rosie" at London's West End, which she co-wrote & co-produced. You should go see it! As Bruce Lee once said 'Be water my friend', meaning when you poor water into a pot, it becomes the pot, poor water into a glass it becomes the glass. When Lucy sings, she is like water, she becomes the song, she sings the song with all her heart and soul, she sings with clarity, smooth control, a beautiful softness, and breath control, she checks all the boxes. So Lucy 'be water my friend'.
She has a beautiful voice! In my opinion however, the best version of this song was performed by K.D. Lang, live at the Canadian Juno awards. Until I heard that version, it was just a song among others. Listening to her I started crying finally getting the deeper meaning. The author Leonard Cohen was in the audience and there's a touching moment at the end of the performance where she shows her respect to him.
