Such a shame the internet has taken the mystique and secrecy of the MK games today but adventure games I think is a genre we could still get secrets in. Damn shame we have never gotten another Mythologies/Shaolin Monks style game
This game is really good, the controls take some time to get use to, but once you get it down it’s great. The acting, the graphics, and music are great
I dont think Mythologies Sub-zero is as Bad as what people say it is. The Main Flaws with it is There was no Jump Button and You had to press a button to switch Sides. Hopefully they remake the Game so that they can Fix the Errors the Original Had. Its Likely that it can Get a remake Someday
I think it might be the new time line bi han sub zero but even in mk 9 he wasn't all that bad. I know was just trying to earn a living. Either way I never viewed him as villainous like Quan chi or shang tsung.

It was also somewhat of a trial and error game that released long after developers stopped making them. To me its just incredibly misunderstood due to the fact that the game was more of an experiment that would not hold up in a series that was generally composed of fighting games. If you don’t like it thats fine. I still enjoy it regardless.
We should appreciate the back story behind the bi han subzero. I think the story telling in this is pretty interesting. I feel like this game should get a remastered but with the same mechanics as mortal kombat shaolin monks.
It's funny how they're explaining the quirky ways you have to control the least intuitive parts of the game instead of just making the game less unintuituve. They're so pleased with themselves in this documentary, but the game was ripped to shreds on release.
That's why they are good at figthing games, where you need to figure things out, but they suck at platform adventure, where you need to be presented with the gameplay step by step.

It’s fine if you die in a game and can easily blame your own lack of skill, but when the game has things off screen that you can’t predict without dying first, that’s just unfair and frustrating

Because when I got my first PS1 as an X-mas gift in 1997, The first 3 games I got for it were The "Greatest Hits" version of Tekken 1, Hasbro's Frogger, and MK: Mythologies: Sub-Zero. As somebody who's actually played this game after Ultimate MK3 for Super Nintendo, the combo mechanics felt 2nd nature to me to a certain degree. Shockingly, MK9 and even MKX made small call-backs/shout-outs to this game whenever they mention Bi-Han's past and the significant role he played in stopping Shinnok.
John Tobias was in charge of the lore, story and design of the game while Ed Boon was more in charge of how the game is played and what kind of mechanics are implemented. They were like yin-yang.
Tom Riddler It is a very good game but its not for everyone. Mythologies was released during the time when trial and error gameplay was basically nearing its end. When the game first launched it sold pretty decently and was fairly enjoyed by the fans but over the years because gaming has changed no one sees it the same anymore and because of its higher than average difficulty (many of the games of this era were like this) a lot of ppl today are put off by it. Its not a traditional fighter like the other games.
This was one of my favorite childhood games. Subzero is my favorite character so I was happy AF he got his own game. I understand the flaws and such but I was cool with it. I know some of the biggest flaws that a lot of people say that there's no jump button. I don't know I just treated it as another fighting game because in a fighting game you literally push up to jump lol. So I think I'm in the minority of not finding that an issue lol. That wind temple is definitely my favorite 🤣
Mythologies Sub-Zero would've been a great game if the controls weren't so damn bad. It was a terrible idea to reuse the fighting controls for a semi-3D platformer.

Despite the cheesiness, cringe and gameplay, this story does a lot to establish Bi Han as a character and supremely talented warrior. (Something the new games seem to have forgotten when it comes to his character). Lore-wise this game is sick.
I love this game mostly beacause of the graphixs. Its has prerendered backgrounds, and realistic characters. Which makes it a very unique looking game. Also tons of gorey deaths and great music as well.
If you have a section of the video promoting your game where your designers are basically saying, "It's weird at first but trust me, when you get used to it it's not that bad", then you fucked up.
IDK I played it on PC with emulator and it isn't hard if you have infinity lives. Pressing a turning button was really annoying though, especially when you fight Fujin. Lore was great and Bi-Han was portrayed as an actually strong character, conflicted, but not evil. It is really sad what NRS did to him. Also it is pity that we will never see his interaction with Sareena again
God I miss this mk, not the laughing stock it’s become. When it had Asian influences and a mystique, also of course awesome music, not rainbow weddings and John cena in Jetpack *literally*

When it first came out it recieved very very negative reviews from gaming websites which basically said that this game sucked ass. Mortal kombat fans said that this game sucked ass and for the most part I agree this game does suck ass. But look on a scale from 1-10 1 being fantastic and 10 being a total dog shit I give this game about 6 6.5 okay and thats being generous is well. This is'nt the tradditional mortal kombat games we're used to where its just 2 players jerking out until they kill each other and do fatality okay.This when the series went into a 2D platforming genre okay and unfortunately it bombed okay it sucked. They also made mortal kombat special forces which is just one of the worst games I've ever played in my entire life okay. I will not even play that in terms of doing like a review or a quick playthrough I'm just not even going near that okay because I'm afraid If I do I'll be screaming into the microphone the whole time just getting so angry so I'm not even going to touch that. Oh and the AI in this game is fucked.

I think MK Shao-Lin Monks is pretty much their best attempt at making an adventure like MK game
There are many fan games that use the Open Beats of Rage engine.
I like how they used real life people to act out the characters but still made it a 3D game. I wish they will make games like this still today.

I liked this game back in the day. This “behind the scenes” video was a free VHS rental from blockbuster back in 97.

I miss the times when John Tobias was part of MK. He looked way more talented (and entertaining) than Ed Boon.

I have only played mk 1 2 & 3 and shoalin monks which was a cool game but I never finished it or worked out the puzzles or secrets or whatever
