Thank you for actually showing hot to hook it up! All the other videos never show how....they only say it's great!! Great job in showing all of the connections!
Hi, you have said correct in video.....though my router was having gigabit lan ports ..I purchased this item.....Benefit of using this tp link switch is that, network speed increases much, It never fluctuates, gives constant fixed maximum speed...
The biggest benefit is wifi is a contention based media. Devices compete for airtime and only 1 station can transmit at 1 time. With a switch, you get full duplex with access to the media whenever you need it. I prefer hard wire everytime.
Just bought one because i use deco mesh tower as my router. Only 3 ports. Was a handy little upgrade. I had to turn off loopback prevention because i have an ethernet running to a tplink archer c80 as a smart wifi as sometimes the smart devices dont connect to the smart dual band on the mesh
15€ on amazon
I really like your transparency for the affiliate links
I imagine you would start to see bigger differences when you use wifi from another room.
Love your humor throughout! Lovely video. It is on sale right now over here in Germany and my wifi mesh extension only has 2 ports even though I need 3, so this is perfect! Thanks!
I have the same one this is simply the best one i have ever used, internet speed is faster no drop outs, highly recommended..
Your tests were limited by your Internet connection. If you had my connection, over 900 Mb down, I bet you'd see much different results, as my WiFi beats all your connections, but it doesn't come close to a wired connection. Also, when you wall mount a switch, do not put the connectors on the top side. They're great at collecting dust, which can interfere with the connection.
Oo your hard
I agree your 900mbps connection is far better than over one megabit internet (a ton of countries have gigabit as quite standard now, they pay the same for gigabit as you would for the 200mbps
Good, nice to see a Real world test, so we know the difference, not just what we are told reading a magazine 👍👍
And how about the speed test when you have two devices plugged in? You have not tested this
This is relative on how far away the device is from the wireless router. For example my router is in the basement and , my network TV is upstairs. Over wifi6 2.4 ghz I was getting a transfer of 56 mbps down and 2 mbps up, after hooking a switch in, my TV was receiving 356 mbps down and 12 mbps up.
Thanks for the video, it made my mind up to go out and get one of these useful devices, my finding are exactly what's in the video, more than pleased.
You want to be testing the ping mate. The wifi & Lan speed are going to look the same to the naked eye on a test like that. LAN is better in every way possible
I bought two of these units, thanks for the video!
Thank you mate! Answered all my questions. Great video!
You know what would have been very helpful. Having a proper speed test. For your speed test. Primarily one that shows your Ping.!!!
But I guess it was helpful for demonstrating that there's no loss in performance for bandwidth under 200 MB.
Which for most people. Would be enough. But will it actually perform a Gigabit.???
And how does the latency change for each of those configurations.?
All questions that could have been answered. Had you chosen a proper speed test location.
I mean there are plenty you can choose from. I don't know how you landed on this uninformative piece of software.
Anyway. And otherwise informative video. Cheers.🍻
It does show ping. It's just termed differently as latency.
Great video sir. Thank you for sharing.
How much do wall plates affect the speed? Is it better to go right from switch to the pc or is a wall plate installed slow things down even more?
Does it has surge protection? I wouldn't dare to plug the cable (it's placed outdoor) from the router directly into my laptop since it'll go kaboom
I have Alexa so all the stuff associated with that runs on 2.4ghz. My router like most modern ones, has duel band, and I take advantage of that by having my computer on the 5ghz band. Will this 2.4ghz/5ghz split effect performance with the switch in anyway?
is ur cable is cat6 or cat5?
Thank you for an awesome review!

You need to list your equipment when doing tests like this. You appear to have very slow wired Ethernet. Then you should run one more test using link aggregation on the wired connection.
What makes you think that his ethernet is slow? Assuming that he's getting what he's paying for (and not less), 143 isn't bad at all.
The bottleneck is his Internet connection, not the switch.
use standard cat6 cables and try to do wifi from another room
CAT6 won't make a bit of difference. Gb Ethernet was designed for plain CAT5, before even 5e was available.
Very helpful, thanks
Does the green light stay on when the device/console is turned off
Is it norm for 16-s 2 mp ip cams? Looks like its have only 3.6 mbit speed -mb not anough?
Awesome vid. Appreciate showing the speeds.
Can I connect the switch to another router?
Yes, can't see why not.
I connected it to my router Xiaomi Router A4 it’s not connecting to router I don’t understand please answer 🙏🏾
Really good video. Thanks!
NICE VIDEO THANKS FOR SHOWING!!!!!
Cool.
Thanks for the video!
I have heard in some reviews, that power adapter sounds a bit disturbing.
Though, this video is one year old, maybe you do remember something. Did you notice anything? And was load any how?
Didn't hear anything coming from the adapter. Seemed fine to me.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK Alright.
Thank you!
It would be good if you tested 4 divorces simultaneously..
Would that have put a strain on the bandwidth?
I've already been through one divorce. Not sure if I could face another three! 😄
That depends on what you're doing. Each port supports 1 Gb. If more than one connection is going through a port than the bandwidth will be divided, according to traffic. This would happen on the port connected to the router. Of course, the Internet bandwidth could also be a limiting factor.
I have 3 wifi routers, can I use that as a splitter? Thanks in advance,
yes but you need to watch some videos on conecting together you need to change it ip addres on atleast one Router but if you just need ethernet then just by one of these! it's far easier its plug and play
Have a look for the MX pro tv boxes ?so meany about 😘
Thank you very much
my main reason to use hard wires are wireless interference
did you find any drop in speed when having multiple devices plugged into the switch?
I didn't experience any.
Why do these companies put mounting screw holes on these things BUT THEN THEY DON'T GIVE YOU A TEMPLATE OR EVEN MEASUREMENTS FOR WHERE YOUR SCREWS SHOULD GO?! NOWHERE?!
*Sigh* OK, I'm better now.
Long E, please. EEthernet. As in ether.
Thanks. What is the dc input voltage please?
The power adapter is 5v.
In the 3rd config i am seeing a noticeable drop in speed. Is that just me?
Hello, I recently bought this device but I have the problem that my connection is not the same. If I connect a cable from my router to the PC, it gives a higher speed than if I connect it from the device. please I need help
1) It's defective
2) Bad cable or connection
Thanks for this
any idea why via this switch im getting 90mb but wifi 400 ?
Can you wire a wall Ethernet jack from a switch ?
Yep. Just use a patch cord.
great video thank you
does it have command line capabilities?
Not sure sorry.
How do you connect to the router? There is no plug
3:09 of the video explains it
It's not a fib when you know you are going to use one of the ports for your router. That's a odd thing to think.
It's odd to think it isn't.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK Not at all. You are conflating your want to use one of the ports to plug a router into with the manufacturer misleading people about the actual number of ports. That is odd thinking and demonstrates a lack of experience with such things.
You've actually made my point for me. You are assuming that everyone who buys this are as knowledgeable as your self. The majority of people buying this for the first time may think that they will be able to use all 5 ports. It's like advertising a car as a '5 Wheel Car'
@@UTILITARIANTVUK No, I haven't made your point either and I have assumed nothing about your audience. I said something that was in direct response to what you said. What I did was say that your thinking that a company is lying when they specify the number of ports their equipment has accurately, is odd. If you merely wanted to inform your audience that they need to buy enough ports for their individual situation, you could have just done so without accusing the manufacturer of lying. Everyone who buys one of these CAN use all 5 ports. If one of those is a router then that's wonderful.
I said briefly and flippantly, 'it's a bit of a fib.' That's hardly calling out the company as out and out liars. However, I do consider it to be misleading, so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. My opinion may not be correct in the eyes of some and your opinion may not be correct in the eyes of others.
What is the point of this "test" if you "tested" only with one computer connected, show me the comparison how it work with 4 clients by wifi and by cable with full load using some tools like iperf3.
Great vid mate are you x army?
Alas no, the closest I ever came was army cadets! 😃 You're not the first to ask though.
Its also not showing ping.
Thats more important
It does show ping. It's just termed differently as latency
If you had 2 or 3 devices plugged into the switch would it slow the signal to each device?
No, there is only 1mb different if that if your downloading, or streaming a 4k video it might drop 8mb max
That depends on what's happening. There is 1 GB max through any one port. If one port is going to the router and multiple devices using the Internet, then they would slow. Of course, Internet use is often intermittent, so one device might be idle, when another is downloading.
speed is less important , would rather you show the ping and packet loss
Maverick would disagree!
You internet is so slow you will never see a difference! Duh!
It's a router, not a rooter.
No, it's a router, not a rowter.
Wifi is Problematic its affect by walls ceilings and especially thick stone walls! but is also affected your neighbor's wifi interfering with yours and yours with theirs ethernet is more stable but wifi is more convenient! Mesh wifi can help but is best conected together with ethernet!!!
Cable cat5 wan a ont mal tiene que ser cat6,7y el resto cat6 puertos ethernet de lo contrario nunca alcanzarás velocidades altas según ISP
ACT = activity
all good but don't like the scummy thumbnail :(
I've got some Daktarin for that.
Test don't prove anything with your slow broadband...
If only everyone could have broadband as fast as yours.
@@UTILITARIANTVUKUnderstanding that, plus your router has multi out ports. Without the faster broadband, it's pointless trying/testing this device.
is this comedy? you have zero idea
I once starred in an adult movie. I didn't do it again as my part was too small... Now that's comedy!
This is a terrible test. Everything is so close together. Your wifi and switch connection should be far away from your computer.
What if you live in a studio flat? Can't really get that far away.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK The point is this doesn't really tell me the quality of this switch. It's like you bought a router and test out the wifi speed 3 feet away. This doesn't help people to know if the wifi router signal is good or bad since you never test further away.
@@asia911 it's a little obvious that a WiFi signal is weaker the further away it is from the router. Also, the lead I used was 2 metres long. How is it a fair comparison if I move the laptop 20 metres away. The test was to see how good the switch was not how good the WiFi is. What you are saying makes no sense.
@@UTILITARIANTVUK You don't get it do you? What's the point of your test if you are only a couple of feet away from your router? The point is to see how much better the switch compare to wifi and direct connection at a further distances is what the switch are mostly use for. That's what people wants to know. So your video is pretty useless since your test only covering a couple of of feet away.
@@asia911 The switch would be the same speed and the WiFi would be slower. Not hard is it.
