Kor’s Tribute (Klingon Dirge for the Dahar Master) - Fan-made music

  • "Kor's Tribute" (aka Klingon Dirge) is another song from one of the greatest moments of Star Trek DS9. After creating my version of "Hear! Sons of Kahless" I received several requests to make a version of this one from "Once More Unto the Breach." Some of you will note that there are Klingon lyrics posted some places online that do not match the pronunciation in this version of the song. It was my aim to keep the pronunciation as true to the original singing in the DS9 episode as possible. Also, some of you may notice that the English lyrics are not a direct translation from the Klingon. To ensure the English lyrics fit the meter of the music, it was necessary to make some slight translation adjustments but I did my best to keep the lyrics true to the spirit of the Klingon and to the tribute for the Great Commander, Kor, son of Rynar.
    On a personal note, I would also like to say thank you so very much to all the wonderful people out there who take the time to listen to my music and comment. You honor me when you share my videos. We live in strange times with few heroes, but throughout history myths, legends, and great characters from well-told stories have helped the human race to remember what is greatest and most noble about life and living, so for those of you who still "geek out" over Klingons and draw strength from good fiction, I say to you Qa'pla.
    If you enjoy this or other content on this channel, please stop by my Patreon page to find out more about exclusive content. / sonsofkahless
    (Note: This music not intended to indicate I own any copyright from the Star Trek franchise, I just love it.)

    I was asked to post the lyrics for this song, so here it is. Note the disclaimer in the description under the video: these are not the lyrics you'll find posted online (these are mostly phonetic as they were sung on the DS9 episode, plus my own English adaptation. Another note that my adaptation is not a direct translation from the Klingon because a direct translation would be too cumbersome for the tune, so the words have been modified for the meter of the music, but still in keeping with the spirit of the original Klingon. Thanks for all the requests everybody!

       @BlackHat Entertainment If "Kor's Tribute" and "Hear Sons of Kahless!" are any sign of your future work on the subject, it would be profoundly moving. In my opinion, you have produced the quintessential Klingon music that captures the warrior poet beautifully. Thank you for that. It touches my Norse, Scotch roots in ways nothing has outside of the Lord of the Rings.
      I have loved "Hear Sons of Kahless!" since I first heard it years ago. It was perfect. I thought of it again, when my mother passed away last week and when I looked it up, I found "Kor's Tribute", which I had not seen before and it moved me beyond words, helping me to focus on the glory in an honorable death and not of sadness in grief (there will always be that, but I felt strength from your music and it has encouraged me). I have been listening to it quite a bit as I prepare for her funeral. Thank you for your work. I would love if you would do more.

      @@themillennialist7261 My dear friend, you seem to know the place that I access when I make all my music, even the Klingon music...especially the Klingon music, as silly as that may sound to some. There was something in those scenes, something in those characters that spoke to us and, if we can resist the cynicism of the modern world, it still does.
      As a man I returned to the series a few years ago and found new dimensions that inspired in new ways, way that compelled me to go deeper into these ideas and feelings and trace their origins to the places you've noted. The franchise gave me a gift of inspiration and it's my honor to give it back and share it with others.
      Indeed, you are right to highlight the connection between grief and strength. The pain of grief is proof of the realness of our love. Although it carries a sting, it also serves as a gift from those that departed early, helping us to remember them, to honor them, and remember that we are their living embodiment. We are the literal continuation of their life and so, as long as we never forget them, they never truly die. Your comment has brought me much honor, as you bring to your mother and your house. I only hope my future creations will live up to the expectations of listeners like yourself. Success to you, my friend!

    Excerpt from the "song of the last son of Rynar"
    Come, sons of Kahless. Come Daughters too!
    Hoist your drink and hear this song: Kor rides to Sto'vo'Kor.
    His path is paved with jem'hadar, their blood and ketracel white.
    He bested Kirk at Organia- His friendship with Dax lasted longer than life.
    On his final day Worf the Chancellor maker drank to Kor
    He rides eternal, on wings of the Norpin
    The Dahar master;
    his cup ever full; his joy forever bright.
    Blood wine could never dim his sight,
    The dominions disaster;
    Joy and doom shown with the same grin.

    This is excellent!
    Dammit Viacom/Paramount, get it together! There needs to be a Klingon series! Dorn has pitched this. Apparently to deaf ears. Use your heads you Ferengi studio heads! Announce a Klingon series and see the subscriptions to your precious Paramount+ jump!
    Wake up fools! Honor what was earned by your forebears! There is so much about Klingon culture that can be explored. How would the Klingons deal with a threat such as the Horta? Don't assume that they'd just hunt it down and kill it. Great warriors are more subtle than that. An ally that is able to spit acid? What an asset!

      Get it together, indeed! Well said, Bill, and thank you for emphasizing the fact that "Great warriors are...subtle." When will Paramount realize that it's this sort of dedication that keeps a franchise alive! I think we need a track to celebrate Michael Dorn for pitching against the odds!

    Let's not forget that Kor was a bit evil, even for a Klingon. He ordered hundreds of Organians murdered, remember (not knowing they were superior beings).

    • @blackhatentertainmentofficial
      @blackhatentertainmentofficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Granted, I suppose he has an "evil" streak by human/Earth standards. But then again, everyone is a "bit evil" by those standards because the idea of "Evil" itself was an ancient imaginary Earth construct cultivated by the Romans to subjugate and assimilate non-Romans (e.g. turn the other cheek when a Roman strikes you, render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, etc. etc.). Basically, humans came to define evil as anything that might be leveraged against the Romans. Same is true for the Federation. Evil is generally defined by the Federation as, well, anyone who opposes the Federation. So, consider this, in spite of Kor's "evil" he was willing to sacrifice his own life for not only his Klingon comrades, many of whom mocked him, but for the good of Federation and for the entire quadrant. It’s hard to think of many within Starfleet that have sacrificed themselves for the good of the Klingons or any other race.
      Also, it seems strange that you inject a valuational judgment on the superiority or inferiority of other beings (i.e. the Organians). Kor likely did not see any beings as superior to the Klingons, and yet he sacrificed himself for the good of an entire quadrant. In fact, from a Klingon perspective, if Kor was able to defeat the Organians, they were not superior at all. But more to the point, assigning a value like "superior" or "inferior" being is a very dangerous and slippery slope. Instead, we should think more like Klingons and weigh beings by their honor, not their technological proficiency or other arbitrary metrics. In short, I think it's safe to sing songs of the Dahar Master both for his honor, for his courage, and for his willingness to sacrifice himself for the good of many species in spite of the fact that he may have considered them to be "inferior."
