  • I bought a 2022 Yamaha MT 07 abs new. After my First Ride review and first impression to see if it’s still worth owning in 2024 vs the Triumph Trident 660, Ktm 790 duke, Honda Hornet cb750 or 650, Kawasaki z650, Suzuki GSX-8S or GSX-8R. I’ve have had a Vstrom 650, Street triple 660, tracer 900 gt, triumph tiger 1050 abs and my wife’s SV650. I almost got a Tracer 9 gt plus + but for 3x the money and all the weight gain, all those electronics and over powered engine for Japanese roads, it’s not worth it. And there is just something about simple brakes, simple suspension, and cable throttle. I’ve add cruise control from MCcruise to have a bit of luxury. I wasn’t going to get a bigger, more expensive, less useable bike just for cruise control, I also like veridian cruise and will look at them for a ride by wire bike I’m concidering. The bike has a euro 5 ZARD exhaust muffler that is plenty loud without being as obnoxious as sc project or arrow and passes road inspection like leo vince to be street legal here in Japan. 車検okマフラーオーケー. I’ve added ebc double-h sintered break pads that were definitely worth it. It has kyb kayaba suspension for the rear shock and hyperpro street box with the progressive front fork spring for a slip easy install in cartridge kit on a budget. Adjustable levers, rear sets, handgrards, and bar end mirrors were nice littles add-ons. And basic amazon case covers, axle sliders, dayton frame sliders, and custom tayler 33 reflective rim tape all in black and gold for protection. And of course my micro mini blinkers and siquential leds in the Rear with a nice tail tidy that was much cheaper than a brand like Yoshura or akrapovic. I’ve aslo had a bagster comfort seat, that I had to sell and now like the oem comfortseat but would love the Corbin or sargent seats.
This may still be the best light weight naked bike for the money.

This makes a great daily rider as well as touring, there is a lot they don’t tell you when looking at big first rides and reviews. Do you need upside down forks? Do you need traction control and power modes on a bike of this size? Do midsized small motorcycles tour well with the best mods for your bike? Riding a motorbike at night or all day doesn’t have to be a crazy expensive top of the line touring luxury, budget works great and will save money for you to get your favorite mods. For stunts, track days, and a brutal sounding engine with plenty of torque, this is hard to beat. All the features you need for dank wheelies, stoppies, and even drifting. A very usable stunt bike.

Is the seating height higher on the comfort vs the stock seat? If so, by how much? Thanks

Not that I can notice, but it is thicker
If taller, I'd say 1cm at most.
Bagster was 2cm give or take.

Interesting review. I have an MT-09 and just went from the OEM comfort seat to the Bagster Ready Luxe seat. My main objection to the comfort seat is it still has that very annoying forward pitch toward the tank as the stock seat. The Bagster eliminates this, but like you've said it is hard. Not sure why they use such a hard foam. Was doing a search for break-in time when I happened across your vid. Worst case scenario I'll change a layer of foam inside it to something softer I think.

Mt07 doesn’t have the forward lean much, but my tracer did and so did my wife’s sv a bit. Bagster fix the sv and I fixed my tracer, I have videos on both if you need some inspiration 😅

I got the comfort saddle and I'm feeling the regret, honestly. I've not found it to not be much more comfortable than the stock saddle. Honestly it feels even worse sometimes - sort of like an overstuffed pillow that's just too firm and offering too much support in the wrong places. Feeling kinda bummed out - like my only option is to shell out 600 for a Corbin.
I kept the stock saddle. I'm kinda tempted to try and rip it open and DIY a gel insert/better cushioning. Haven't got much to lose if it fails since I'll just keep riding on the comfort saddle.

I have a DIY video of a gel insert for my tracer video. It's more comfortable but much hotter in the summer. Like, burn the cheeks hotter.
The comfort upgrade is marginal but yes, if not for my employee discount I'm not sure it get it.
As for corbin I got to use one once and they are 600$ good and then some. The question you need to ask your self, how much touring and how many more years will you keep the bike? 4+ years, corbin worth it. 1000km plus a month, Cobin getting close to worth it. Serious touring more than once a year, corbin very worth it.
I just had a baby so I don't know when my wallet will have the "girth" to say corbin is worth it for me, buti can sell the comfort seat used for what I got it on employee discount, so when that day comes 😅

@@kairyurider That's a great breakdown. Right now I commute on my bike 3 times a week and do smaller day trips on the weekends. And the saddle is fine for that kind of thing. But I feel very limited if I want to do anything longer. I deliberately don't plan anything that requires more than 3-4 hours in the saddle. At the end of a 6-hour day I was in some serious pain.
I *want* to do longer 2-3 day trips where I can really cover some ground and explore new areas. I think if the seat was comfortable, I'd be good to go, honestly. The wind can get a bit fatiguing but with hearing protection it's really not too bad.

@monawoka97 then sounds like the corbin is worth it.
I've done some iron butts on some rough seats so I can ride this seat for my typical 8hr day rides but I am shifting around a good bit on that last 1 or 2 hrs.
I've already put a lot of mods on this bike, so if at the end of the year I decide I'll keep it a good few years, corbin and slightly better front shocks are in my future.
But I'm OK for now, or so says my wallet.

Well, one of my complaints with the 07 is the seat. It's dreadful. A Corbin sells for Can$1000 which is ridiculous. I ended up making my own with a fiberglass base and closed cell foam. The whole thing cost me Can$300. The result is MUCH better, not perfect, but I can easily ride for two hours +. I know of no bike that has seats that last longer than this.

Vstrom 650 never gave me a sour spot. I'm happy enough it this seat but I have a video making a custom seat for my tracer 900gt

Thanks heaps - just back from a long ride in the mountains and my butt hurts 😂 yamaha comfort seat it is 🙏🙏 in other news haven’t swooped out the exhaust yet. The stock sound has grown on me, even though it’s ugly as (imo).

I ordered the Yamaha comfort seat also, over 3K miles I feel it's hard again like stock. The problem is my jeans ride up crotch area 🤷🏻‍♂️

      That's how I felt.
The corbin seat is supposed to be perfect but very heavy and not cheap
