Small Space Makeover | Finally Setting Up the Cut Flower Patio!
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 7 ก.ย. 2024
- This week we are ditching the folding camp chairs and temporary furnishings. It’s time to give our patio a much needed makeover… one that gives this space a sense of purpose and place. We have new, modular seating, a gorgeous collection of self-watering containers (this space gets HOT) and all the little finishing touches that make this space entertaining ready. Also, did I mention we are going BOLD with color?!? It must be the heat… because I’ve definitely stepped way outside my comfort zone. As with all our spaces, they are works in progress (we still need a coffee table and potentially a few side tables), but this is a giant step in the right direction!
As always, wishing you a beautiful day in the garden!

KATE! What an amazing blank space! You of course transformed it beautifully. You won't ever want to go inside anymore with all your lovely outdoor space. LOVE IT!
So true , a creative and colourful transformation.😍😍👏👏
Oh my gosh… you guys are so kind! It was so much fun to give this space an upgrade. It’s a MAJOR improvement from camp chairs. 🤣 Thank you for being here! 💕
Kate, you never cease to amaze me with your colour and plant selection. The planting looks great and so does your furniture and its placing. Don't for get to give us updates on the plant growth. Thank you Kate for your inspirational talk!! 🧡💛❤
Well thank YOU for being here! I’ll remember to do a full container update with my July garden tour. 💕
Love, love, love, your style, your videos, and authenticity. So much more than another gardening channel. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself and thought processes. ❤
Love the color scheme Kate ❤ totally get changing up the planting hues as we move into late summer and fall. Enjoy your cozy space these warm summer evenings.
Hello Katie, also here in Seattle my #1 tip for brown paper yard waste bags is...line the bottom with a piece of cardboard. Something that would be put out into the recycle bin. It beefs up the bag and keeps it from breaking down before it gets picked up on "garbage day" 👍
This. Is. GENIUS. How haven’t I thought of that before?!? I’ve been saving my bags that have a hole in the bottom to line the bottom of the ones that are properly sealed, but this is a game changer. I bet I could pop some cardboard in the bottom and be in business!
@@HelloGarden I keep a stack of cut to fit pieces of cardboard in my garden shed and line the bag every time. No busted bags on my watch!!
Kate whsg a beautiful transformation wow ,you are so talented!
Everything looks amazing !!
Your space, OMG, just beautiful and your containers came out gorgeous! I just had to pause the video, at each space, and stare and drink it in. Everything is so summer happy, but yet the plant choices have the welcome mat out for fall color. How did you do that; such magic and so pleasing!
YES GIRL!!! I'm here for it! Your new nickname is going to be Bananarama and you're saving us from this Cruel Summer with your wicked good style and imagination! Muah!! 😘 Love it so much ❣
Love these new spaces you’ve been putting together! 💚💐 Thanks taking us along on these transformations!
Thank you Kate your new area looks lovely. 🌺💚🙃

Good morning Kate!!! You knocked it out of the ballpark in this space! Love it 😍. The design is spectacular. Everything you chose is a whole new outdoor living garden room🧡🧡🧡 Thank you for sharing all of your ideas 😊 0:06
That space looks so pretty! It makes me wish i had a concrete area to decorate. You did a wonderful job.
Thank you so much! It’s turned into a super sweet space. 😍
The planters look fantastic 💚💚🌺
Thanks so much 😊
That looks like a beautiful living room. My husband just got the idea that we could make something like that on top of our tiny house in the garden.
Oh that would be SO cool!
OH WOW!!! Kate you rocked that space 😊 The color combos in the pots.... all I can say is WOW!! BEAUTIFUL 😍
Oh my gosh… Thank you! It was really fun to bring in such vibrant color. Just tickled with my newly reclaimed space!
Great space! Love your pots! ❤🪴♥️
Very invitingly.
Greetings from Germany
🙋♀️🌸
You are simply amazing. Your arrangements are so unexpected and absolutely breathtaking!
Another fabulous transformation! Love, love the colors you chose. The two areas are cozy and inviting. 🙌💯👏
Oh my goodness, this is beautiful!!!! I especially love the banana tree and the two pots beside it. The colors are gorgeous!!
Turned out wonderful!
❤love how the patio turned out. You really have a great “eye” for designing spaces. And choosing color combinations for the planters. Thanks for sharing ❤ Can’t wait to get my teas😊
Ooooo… I packed yours yesterday! I’m doing a big run to the post office today after I get the crew started on our next project. I can’t wait to hear how you enjoy them! 💕
I truly, truly love your style, and what you bring to my gardening world. So, many real things I can take from watching your. Especially with small spaces, which is what I got. Love It!
Thank you so much! 💕
I tried sun coleus this year in Oklahoma in full sun. It loves the hot blistering sun. I am amazed. They are huge. Love your videos. Thank you!
What a transformation! These colors will transition into autumn nicely.
I think so too! This space is actually so fun in the autumn as everything is pumping out blooms. Thanks for being here! ☺️
Looks gorgeous!
Thank you so much, Pat! 🌱💕🌱
Amazing patio Kate!
Ohhh my goodness that space looks sooo incredible!!! It’s just so beautiful! And is so inviting!! Like a, “please come sit here and visit a while” 🥰❤️❤️
Beautifully done!!❤❤
Thank you! 😊
Oooo that’s so inviting Kate 🥰
Thank you!!! It’s been a super fun space to be in.

Love planting containers.

What a warm inviting space, it’s just beautiful…a true Kate touch! 🇨🇦👏❤️
Thanks so much! 😊
I'm a newbie to your channel and it's been a treat hangin out with ya. Yep, you're definitely blessed with a gift. I'm learning so much.
Your mental process and description of the colours and textures you use, is really interesting.
It'd be wonderful to see a video of the plants/flowers when they've grown. To see and understand the outcome of your vision.
Thumbs up & subbed... See ya later.
Thank you so much and welcome! I’ll try to catch some pot updates in my garden tour!
Love, love, love it. Another beautiful outdoor space!
Awww, Jagoda I love seeing your name pop up. I packed your tea this weekend and can’t wait to get it in the mail!
Love your videos - especially when you move the plants around to decide what looks best. It gives us insight into your thought process and makes me feel as if I am standing next to you. TY for sharing.
Amy, you can thank Brian for that. 😆 I always thought, “who wants to hear me chatter on and on about plants?” But he insisted that it was super interesting to hear about why I make certain choices so I let him put it all in! TY for being here!
@@HelloGarden Brian - TY for the great call. This feature makes your videos unique and so interesting. As a gardener, you always want to see the what if I switched this around etc. so satisfying to see that considered in real time. TY!
Love your new space.
Thank you! 🌱
Kate, can we get a over head look of your beautiful landscape much love 🪴❤️❤️❤️❤️
Kate, aren’t you full of surprises! Wish I could stop by and enjoy my tea with you in that wonderful new space. You have been holding out on us! The planters look perfect!
St. Louis here again, I use sun coleus in all of my full hot sun containers every year and they have about a week of slight sunburn the first week or so after planting but then they are work horses of my containers. My favorite is “redhead”; also love “ gays delight” , “ Beale street”. And many others. They are on the pool deck and in unrelenting sun and heat all summer. Don’t be afraid to use them.
🥰WOW BEAUTIFUL❤
Thank you so much! 💕
I love the way you describe everything… And your enthusiasm. You have a special way about you that is so fun. Everything looks so great.🥰
Very pretty!
Wow! What a beautiful transformation of this space! I love the banana tree and the trio of pots with the colors that go so well with the color of the banana tree!! ❤
Thank you! And I’m particularly tickled with that Banana. They are so fun!
Yes, pressure washing is awesome! I will break it up and wash different sections per day.
Beautiful
Great ideas!
Thank you! 😊
Love!! Love!! Looove!! What you did with the space I really appreciate your simplicity in design totally my style less is more the eye needs somewhere to rest plus looove that you are not afraid of color and embrace all colors of nature can’t stand gardeners that hate on bright colors such hypocrisy!! Keep up the good work
Wow! I love this space! I am definitely going to play with some deeper colors next year because of you. Those planters look amazing! ❤
The trough planters are my favorite. They're too pretty to put behind the sofa.
Wow what a difference! Love the color combo in the planters❤
You are amazing❤ if you put solar light inside banana to give light to the leaves, IT WILL BE GORGEOUS ❤
Wow! That space turned out beautifully.
I love your space and how you talk us through all the colors, textures, etc. My favorite thing! Enjoy your new patio.
I love it! Your planters are just gorgeous! Can't wait to see them in a few weeks when they all have grown in. The sitting is awesome, the only thing I would add is some tables so you can set your drinks down. Another great video Kate! Come plan my space!!!!
Oh my gosh. If only I could magically duplicate myself and make house calls! And you are 💯 right. I’ve been looking for tables (coffee, end table) but just haven’t found the right thing yet. And I didn’t want to settle just for the video. ☹️ But you know I’ll film that magic table when I finally find it!
@@HelloGarden I get it! With your last video shopping for furniture, you gotta be picky what you put out there. Don't just settle! 😘
Kate love your color choices in those containers and the patio furniture is perfect!I can see a small fire pit in the autumn with a hot tottie drink ❤
Very nice
Thank you! 🌱
Now that is so lovely ❤. Love the furniture. But the plants you used are spot on. I always try to answer and see what I would use. Usually different. And your way looks so much better than I would choose. Learning so much. Thanks Kate !!!
Thanks so much! 😊 it is so fun imagining we all get to have these design sessions online! Thank you for being here, Darlene. 🌸
She's very nice , she's very nice 😂
I love everything about your channel but mostly here for the personality injection and the humor alongside the planting
I love this space! Your containers are beautiful!❤
What a gorgeous transformation! That banana plant is the star of the show. I think I need to add self watering inserts to all of my big pots outside. I wasn’t sure about some of your choices of placement until you added the rug. That just brought the whole room together. So much fun.
It totally anchored the space, didn’t it? And I have recently been trialing another insert called Aquapots. I was introduced to them by Jack Barnwell when he was at the NWFGS. They are a brilliant solution! He also just came out with two more sizes to fit a variety of pot sizes!
@@HelloGarden awesome! I will look for those.
Hello Kate and hello to your gardens! Happy Monday.
Happy Monday, Janeen! 💞 Thank you for starting your day with me. 🌱
That is a gorgeous space! Thank you for sharing it with us. ❤️
BTW, I’m so excited to get my tea!
Thank you, Tracy! And I packed all your goodies this weekend. It fills my heart to know I get to send little pieces of my heart out into the world!
Hey Kate! Looks awesome! Love those arrangements! What a wonderful new space!
It is crazy how pouring a little love into a space can literally change how I behave. All I want to do is spend time in all these new areas! And it’s amazing to also feel like I just expanded the footprint of our home.
Love, Love, Love your new space! Awesome job!!
Thank you so much, Judy! 🌸
I love how you put containers together. I was curious on if you’ve ever watched Rosy Hardy Gardening TH-cam channel. She is a multiple gold medal winner at Chelsea flower show. I think you would enjoy her channel. You both have a similar style.
Well thank you for introducing me to someone new! I can tell I’m going to be watching a bunch of her content when I’m done with work tonight. ☺️
Kate! It looks amazing! I know sometimes editing videos can be time-consuming. Do you think you can put the name of the plant on the screen? I'm new to container gardening. When I like a plant I screenshot and keep the picture in a folder. So when at a nursery or buying seeds, I have name to reference. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 😊.
Oh man, I love the transformation ❤. Also, I am so excited to get my tea🥰
PS. I’m with you on the root teasing, why disturb the roots if not needed ❤
Absolutely stunning Kate xx
Thanks so much! 😊 I had SO much fun playing with color. 🌈
loved the burgundy, orange,...plant combinations. thank you for sharing
You’re so welcome! I usually don’t go that “hot” for my personal pots but it was awesome to play with that much color!
Well, for goodness sake! Who knew to even try those combinations?! Turned out beautifully!!! You’re shaking loose my brain…carex goes in the yard! Oh wait! NO! It works in a container! DUH!🤯 Just love all that you do AND listening to you do it!
So very pretty!
So gorgeous!!
Thank you so much. It’s such a fun space now!
First the garden bag ripped, then knocking over your tumbler 😂😂 you are my spirit animal ❤❤ have a great day Kate! 🇨🇦💙💚 PS near the end is that not a celosia? The twisty orange plant you put in. Not a coleus? I would consider moving those 2 lanterns to the corner between trough planters and trio of planters.❤
Ha ha ha! Don’t come here expecting a graceful gardener. 🤣 And you are totally right. It’s celosia. We finished editing at 1am and I totally missed that! Ugh. Oh well. And I love moving all the pieces around! It’s going to be so fun to rearrange this space. I still need a few finishing touches like a coffee table, but I haven’t found anything I like yet and didn’t want to just spend money to have a “finished” video. It’s always a work in progress!
So Beautiful ❤
Stunning!
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful!
Thank you, friend! 🌱
Enjoying your channel. I would suggest painting that gray fence. Perfect backdrop for color.
Thanks so much for being here! We actually thought of sanding the boards and trying a different sealer on it. We applied one that was supposed to keep the cedar color but it grayed out after 2 years. Oh well. That’s work for a day when it isn’t boiling hot out there! 🥵
Beautiful 😊
Thank you! 🥰
Hi again, It is nice if you put coffee table Infront of coach❤
Kate, seroiusly !!! Can you come and decorate my patio 😉 Ok, waiting on my bitties 😂🤩
Lovely! I do the same thing with root bound plants- rip it off!!!
No mercy. The plants will thank us! 😆
Good morning. What a change to an area that was unused or little used. I am in an agreement with you that I would need furniture that is movable for either change or if I had more then just family. Question: I have tried at least 4 times in 4 different sunny spots in my garden to grow echinacea and of course it refuses, What is your secret to having them come back and thrive? Love you have done to the space. Enjoy your channel.
You’re kidding where’s the hot colors?
Well it’s getting better. I have PW coleus in full sun zone 7A hot and humid Missouri and they have never burned.❤❤❤
Where is the hanging lantern light from, please? Everything you've done is SO PRETTY!
It's from article. A consignment shop near me gets overstock from article and sells them at a steep discount. Here is the link to the actual article item www.article.com/search?q=bori+large+lantern
@@HelloGarden Thank you! :)
Good morning Kate!!! This is awesome! I have recently wondered about compost material - I just started a little composting system. Is it recommended to put weeds or u wanted plants in the compost bin? Will that yield those seeds later in the garden? Thank you!!!
Oh, Kate! A truly wonderful, fairytale transformation! 💕Just wondering if you have a creative idea for saving all of the little plant tags?
💡I've tried punching a hole in each tag, putting them on a metal ring, and hanging them above my potting bench in the garage.
Any other ideas from our Hello Garden community?? 🩷 Dawn (in IL)
Well, Dawn… your idea is FAR more creative than mine! I just recycle them when possible. I’ve seen some people tape them in a spiral notebook, but that definitely would need to be inside. I also can see having a simple database in Excel with all the plants listed by zone in the garden. Can’t wait to hear what others suggest!
Love, love your containers. What size are your trio pots
What do you think to self watering containers? Do they not attract bugs like overloved/overwatered indoor plants might? I spent a lovely morning on Saturday replanting my front door pots after a new pot purchase on Friday. I took some of my hardware store half price plants I’ve been sitting on for months whilst I reclaim and reimagine my rear garden space and used them to create a couple of stunning textural, layered colour stories in a couple of pots following a lot of your pot design teachings so thank you ❤ PS. Your space is looking really lovely and comfortable in a lovely homely way (pretty yet achievable and practical for everyday living).
Your day sounds divine! This is my first year playing with self watering containers. These have an overflow outlet and so far haven’t become buggy and gross. I’m certainly going to keep you all posted!
Nice how will the cushions fair with all the rain you get? My sister lived in the area and it rained quite often.
We are on the hunt for a deck box and will putting them away after use. They hold up well from the conversations I’ve had with Crescent, but I want to protect that investment.
Beautiful textures! Need to know where to get the little light that you pput on the table setting! 😊
I thought the same and its been linked in the description of the video.
Yes! It’s the Wick candle and I looooove it. I’ve used it at the garden show both years and it’s perfect for outdoor dining where a normal candle might blow out in the wind. 😍
I also do peoples pots. I love my job! Where do you live? I’m in Northern California. I like your pots.
Thank you! I live in the PNW in the Seattle area.
What size are your 3 pot combo? I love them
Thank you! They are 22 inches, 18 Inches and 15 inches tall. If you want more info here is a link www.crescentgarden.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Fold-Planters.pdf
Looks like Date night for you and Hubby
Where the planters donated? I love them but cost way too much. In case you’re doing another patio I’ll share some other planters that are more affordable for the average person. But you dud do a great job decorating it.
Some were but some were purchased. It’s an investment for sure but I really believe in the company and appreciate the guarantee. I have to drag a 100 foot hose to get down there so having something self-watering has been a lifesaver.
❤❤
💕💕💕
@@HelloGarden
Your doing great ❤👍
I don’t quite understand..at the beginning you say that space is a ‘roof’ of an old garage….a roof? 🤔
Yes! It’s a cinder block and cement garage off the alley what you saw was the roof of that garage that we refinished to be a patio it’s about a 12ft drop to the alley on the other side of the wood fence.
