This was a great video! Very informative and broken down well in a very easy to understand way. Also the professionalism in your script was flawless. Cheer bro! Keep them coming🙏🏻
Excellent advice people always talking about feet, eyes, and engagement. Lets try and see. I think here there is the reason for difference between a good or a bad ride day
i think this is the year i also begin to nerd out on it XD. my biggest problem is that i get too excited and just ride with no thought which is good and all but this i feel like this is the key to unlocking a whole box of ability. great vid btw
That's very interesting. I'm undoubtedly doing this wrong and nobody ever pointed this out to me. Would you be willing to do a video elaborating on how to train this at low conscious speeds? I'm just a very average trail rider and the type of riding you demonstrate here is very unrelatable to me while the core info is extremely helpful
Dude. I love you man. Your content deserves to be one of the big ones because you always have great vids that inspire better riding. Keep it up. Always excited to watch. 🤙🤙
That dude has such good positioning on the bike at 1:26 he unclipped his left foot, got it sorted, and went on to do a mega run. If that’s not composed I don’t know what is.
This video is awesome. I feel like I did what you did in 2021, but not as fast. I have that arm position, but my back is rounded. I've been working on leaning more so I can hit berms faster, but I think I should focus on my position more. Also I think I think my mind is still holding me back.
In the last year or so I have made a lot of improvements in foot position, elbow position and hip hinge, but not rounding my back remains a problem. I can basically feel or see what the other parts are doing, and adjust them accordingly, but my back seems to have a mind of its own....
I personally feel that this posture relates to the majority of trail riding, but not down to XC riding and things of that nature. Of course that is just my opinion though, to each their own👊🏼
Love your videos when they are so technical. I'm 45 average rider, and trying to improve my flatter back position. I'm 5'10" longer legs/shorter torso, are these proportions worse for learning the flatter back mtb position? Due to my proportions i've downsized from L to a Medium YT Jeffsy Mk3 to gain some maneuverability, do you think is it better a longer or shorter reach to learn/improve the flatter back position? Thanks
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching! The positioning discussed in the video can work for any porpotions with slight adjustments to find what is most comfortable for you. Regarding the frame size, it is tough to say. Ideally you don't want to be too long or too short, but it can be tricky to nail down the perfect size. At 5'10" with that bike in a medium, I would say you are spot on. You can always make subtle reach adjustments by messing around with the flip chip also. Hope this helps!
i have a long ass question if you have the time. i have trouble holding my ideal posistion in terms of fore-aft , for example when i enter a corner rather fast sometimes my body would slide back , it lightens the front and i wash out, or , i enter a steep roll down with weight centered but as i reach the bottom and it transitions into an uphill my weight gets thrown back and i almost manual out . how do you deal with these forces ? do you look far and anticipate by shifting accordingly to compensate ? Thank you
Frame and cockpit size matters alot for your default attack position, right? So is there any way to get in the ballpark of the right size bike for you - besides just feel?
That is not my area of expertise, but I would definitely recommend running an aluminum handlebar if you struggle with wrist pain and maybe even consider using 31.8 handlebars rather than 35mm for added compliance. Hope this helps!
@@PeterJamison how does body positioning play into being able to maintain posture longer. I hear unhinging your hips and activating glutes and hamstrings to take off pressure from quads. I don’t know what that looks like. Could you explain this?
As soon as anyone starts talking neutral spine I'm out. Neutral spine is from the 90's! Your spine is never in neutral. It may pass through it on the way to some other position, but it never stays there. Nice production though.
Dont mean to be critical but jackson doesnt have the best corner technique. You can see in that berm clip his hips are on the inside of the corner and hence he slips out aka drifts to the next corner. This is inconsistent and also dangerous. He gets away with it because hes been riding since a kid, but if any of us use this technique we would crash every time. A much better example of form and fluidity is Loic. He is always in control and has the basics of cornering, while maintaining the spine angle you talk about. Not tryna hate, i like youre content. Just giving people some other info to be aware of. Im no pro, but i do try and watch for the fundamentals. And this dude is pure natural ability which i will never be able to replicate.
Mixing things up this week with my first riding technique breakdown, what did you think? Thanks for watching!

Did you make any adjustment on your bike to make your back straight? Saddle setback? Shorter stem? Etc?
No specific bike adjustments, but being on the right size bike definitely helps!
I think the examples are more related to DH/free riders. Thr angle on the bike is different than trail. So posture is different too.
I personally feel that this posture relates to the majority of trail riding, but not down to XC riding and things of that nature. Of course that is just my opinion though, to each their own👊🏼

You might want to try a longer stem length to move your weight forward on the bike! I run either a 40mm or 50mm on all of my bikes, hope this helps!

arm pump also has to do with the fork you use
How do you keep your quads from burning on a descent? I can’t hold the attack position for 5 mins. It’s like a 5 min wall sit
Very thankful to have an awesome trainer who keeps me fit 🤘🏼👍🏼
